Mediocre beer. There’s nothing special about Corona Extra, and I don’t understand its popularity. Yet, it seems to be among the very best selling beers, and even gets high marks around here.

This is a one-dimensional beer. Starting at the top, it has a pronounced bitter hop presence, but with one with no variety at all. Just brute force bitterness that tastes more like jalapeno than hops. If you’ve never tasted a brew that has several varieties of hops flavors – flavors, not just harshness – then I guess you might accept what you get with Corona as real hop flavoring. But, compared to the depth and dimension of hop flavor in beers as widely varying as Coor’s Batch 19 [a veritable object lesson in subtle-but-present, multi-level hop flavoring] and Half Acre Brewery Daisy Cutter, Corona seems cheap and crude.

But the body of the beer – its main flavor – is what really sinks it. The flavor is that of an oddly rubbery-compound tasting liquid. Not pleasant. No complexity. Take away the harsh jalapeno bitterness, and what you’re left with is a one dimensional beer of no particular high quality. Compared to the bursting complexity of Stroh’s, it’s a one-note bitter pill. As I said, I just don’t understand its popularity.

Pours a light golden color with a smallish white head that quickly dissipates. Aromas of light sweet fruity and grainy malt with hints of floral hops to counter. The taste is sweet with honey and fruit. Light bready grainy flavor with a sharp spicy hop flavor with a low to moderate level of hop bitterness. Light to medium light body with a moderate to high level of carbonation and a slick sharp crisp mouthfeel. Nice grainy bready aroma, this actually tastes pretty decent without a lime stuffed into it.

Corona Extra has been my favorite beer for the last 5 years or so. It’s light, stout but not bitter with the right amount of carbonation. However, Corona Extra contains barley malt, rice &/or corn with GMO’s antioxidants and propylene glycol (stabilizer). It is off my beer list. What a shame!

Simply put: Lawnmower beer. Light, corn adjunct beer with the faintest trace of hops. Slight stewed vegetable aroma. Straw yellow color with a medium white head that disappears quickly. Not worth my time writing up this review nor your time reading mine. Pair with self loathing with a side of bad taste.

From a 355 ml bottle. No date.

A-The brew is more yellow than most and very light in color. A few stray bubbles of carbonation support a thin, white head.

S-The smell is typically sweet with grainy corn notes, some skunk, and not much else.

T-The taste is also mildly sweet with corn grain and some crackers on the finish. Very mild flavor on this particular bottle, but some can be downright skunky and off-putting.

M-If there is a highpoint for this brew, it is the light, crisp mouthfeel.

O-I am a sucker for cheap Mexican/American Adjunct Lagers (in the right setting), but I fail to see how any setting could be right for Corona. The smell is either skunky or non-existent and the taste generally follows suit. I don't think there are enough limes to save this stuff.

I've only ever drank this beer with the lime inside the bottle, so pouring it feels odd.

See: Yellow gold, hardly any bubbles, 1 finger of whitish head that dies quickly and ends up in a small crown with some lace here and there.

Smell: I could smell it when I first opened the can but am having a hard time getting any aroma off it now.

Taste: Very mild and thirst quenching.

Feel: Not much different than drinking almost flat ginger ale (less the ginger). No after taste what so ever.

Blanket: This beer would be ideal while canoeing in the warm sun. It's about as boring as this review, I'd say. No wonder they spruce it up with lime, but it is drinkable, though. Especially if you don't like the smell or taste of beer.

Drank from a 12 fl. oz. bottle purchased at Downtown Wine & Spirits, Somerville, MA
Served in a pint glass

The beer poured a crystal clear, pale straw yellow and was topped by a near one-finger, fluffy, bright white crown that quickly fell to a foamy ringlet. Streaks of lacing clung to the glass.

The nose contained notes of grainy, husky malts. Mild skunk. Touch of sulfur. Grassy hops appeared as the beer warmed.

There was more going on in the flavor profile than I anticipated. Crisp and grainy with grassy, noble hop notes. Touch of sulfur/skunk. Hints of lemon. More grainy malts and earthy hops appeared in the finish. A surprising amount of bitterness lingered on my palate.

The mouthfeel was thin, light and spritzy. Seltzer-like. Slightly frothy on the palate.

Even amongst American adjunct lagers, people really seem to hate on Corona. I, however, found it to be rather unoffensive and noticeably more flavorful than many of its American counterparts. Perhaps getting a fresh bottle, keeping it out of direct sunlight and holding off on that lime is key to enjoying this.

Drank directly from the bottle...

A: It's hard to really score this section properly, as I didn't have anything to pour it into. As far as the in-bottle appearance goes... Very pale, transparent yellow. It honestly looks like a pee sample at the doctor's office... Not very appealing. I'll re-evaluate this section if, for some reason, I get around to pouring it into a glass.

S: Sour. Stale. There's a lot going on here, but none of it is good. It just smells like the aftermath of a college frat party.

T: Just as offensively odd as the nose... Stale grains and corn. Kind of sour, in the most unpleasant manner. Dear lord, where are the limes? Someone get me one. Or two. Or six. Please.

M: Overly-carbonated. It's kind of like drinking Sprite...

O: One of the worst mass-produced light lagers out there. I hate to sound so harsh, but if it weren't for the three limes that I shoved in the bottle, this would have been an absolute drain-pour from the beginning. As the beer sat and warmed out of pure neglect (I couldn't bring myself to continue sipping on a regular basis), it got even worse. I suppose it's drinkable if you add a lime or two while it's ice cold... Anything less and it's drain material. Go for Miller Lite if you're reduced to drinking a light lager.

I'm vacationing in the Keys and drinking Corona, it's State Law. I drink it with a lime normally by that makes it more of a tropical drink so I discard the lime.

Simply as pale yellow as it can be it had a sudsy, silly head.

The scent is virtually not there. Weak metallic grain at a guess.

I taste a.great deal of German influence with grainy, cereal malts. A Pilsner like quality it simply is overwhelmed in water. Obviously, water goes down easy and smooth and so does Corona.

12oz can into a pint glass.

Pours a bright yellow color with an inch thick white head. Smell isn't bad, smells "refreshing" but not much in terms of flavor. taste again isn't bad, it just doesn't have much of a taste at all. Honestly tastes like youre drinking water. Easy to drink. Light bodied with medium carbonation.

Overall this is an okay beer for what it is. Not sure why it gets so low marks on here, its not horrible.

I like pairing Corona with spicy foods... I won't taste the Corona anyway so it isn't a big deal. It is definitely a cheap, relatively low class beer but I won't slight it by saying that it doesn't have its place. This beer is good for pairing with Mexican food, it really is. Often a more complex beer will have strange interactions with spicy foods, but not Corona. You can count on still being able to taste your food while swigging down this slightly intoxicating yellow liquid.

I have had friends call Corona "Mexican p*** water" and I respectfully disagree. I still think that Corona triumphs over its American counterparts such as Budweiser.

I am not sure when skunking a beer on purpose became a selling point for a beer, but it's what we have here. A generic yellow color, , not much aroma, a light flavor best accented with a lime, and not much as far as finish goes. Besides that though, they'll work in a pinch.

Pours crystal clear yellow color with a snow white 1 finger foamy head that lasted a lot longer than I thought that it would and left minimal spotty lacing.

Smells of vegetables, faint caramel, extremely light hops, grains and skunky yeast; without fruit in it this beer barely smells like a beer.

Tastes of vegetables, faint caramel, cardboard, grains, wet bread and a metallic aftertaste like licking a penny. The limited sweetness in the flavor gets washed away by what seems like skunky yeast and the metallic aftertaste. I did not have this ice cold or on a hot sunny deck, so the reality of this tasting is that the taste is not very good.

Mouthfeel is very light and crisp, with a watery flow, almost no carbonation and then the skunky yeast and the metallic finish.

After finishing the last few sips I concluded that this was my refresher course on why I stopped drinking this beer over a decade ago; even if it’s the only beer at the party I would avoid this and drink soda or water over it.

A: Really pale, yellow/golden color, pop pop fizzy coca-cola head. Nothing special.

S: Lot's of malted barley and corn smell off the bat while being faint. I cannot distinct the hops at all.

T: You would get this- overly bitter malty/corn taste that results in a bitter and distasteful finish that makes it a pain in the neck to try to slam, even casually drink/sip. Ice cold in a frosty mug if you need to, lime does nothing for this piece of work.

M: Watery... And super thin.

O: I am anti-beer snobbery, but this beer is plain foul... I can't think of any type of meal this beer can be good with. There's no saving grace about it other than the fact it's good for slamming down on a hot day if it's the only thing you had at the moment. And it's overpriced.

Packaging: 12 oz. clear bottle, pry-cap
Glassware: Tulip pint
Purchased: 6-pack from Kroger

A: Clear and bright golden color with a white head standing 2 fingers tall. Retention is fair and there's a good amount of lacing.

S: Not a lot of aroma; some light sweetness of pale malt and grassy hops.

T: The taste goes with the smells; with a light sweetness and then grassy hop character. Also has a bit of skunky taste.

M: High carbonation with a light body. Finishes slightly bitter and lightly sweet in balance.

O: Overall not a bad beer but then again, nothing remarkable either. It stands in well as a lawnmower beer or something to wash down your meal with.

24 oz bottle poured into a nonic pint. Bottled Feb 22, 2013.

A: Pours a fizzy light yellowish amber with a 1 finger bubbly head that is quick to dissipate. Lots of visble carbonation. No lacing.

S: Even without the lime the aroma still reminds me of a citrusy lemon lime. A hint of skunkiness to it. Mostly malt.

T: Not a whole lot of flavor going on here but a non offensive beer. Standard american adjust corn taste. As with the aroma there is a bit of skunkiness once you burp.

M: Light body with decent carbonation. Fairly crisp finish. Real easy drinking.

Overall its always an easy drinking and refreshing beer. Perfect for the summer heat. Not the most flavorful but beats some of the other AAL's.

This beer is on my top beer to drank in the summer and maybe of all time! Others do not like this beer but in my 20 years of dranking it does not disapoint on being refreshing and taste. It is crisp and clean! I The taste of heaven!

Apperance:Gloden like beautiful gold watch forever, the retention is excellent.

Smell: Very Smooth and refreshing has hops and malts.

Taste: This is very smooth and refrshing beer. It has no after taste but with a lime even taste better then all craft beers. Who would thnk that !

Mouthfull: very refreshing, crips, leave's a pleasant taste, medium body and medium carbonation in it.

Overall People either hate or love it. I am on the side of love it! The price is not cheap even in California but I will always buy it. By far the best Mexican beer on the market!

Ok, I know that Corona Extra is not technically a good beer. It has a generic yellow color reminiscent of Bud Light, it doesn't have much in the way of aroma and what is there has a slightly skunky aspect to it. As far as taste goes, it's just ok, and for the price there are a LOT of better beers you could get. However, that being said, I will admit that I enjoy this beer when it is served very cold with fresh lime on a hot day, and it's light and crisp feel are probably it's best attribute. .

Split a 6 pack with my brother, Appearance is fine looking, the smell is decent but nothing to great, the taste is alright I suppose, nothing bad, nothing good, its fairly light, and much better with a lime, mouth feel is also average, overall its an okay beer, but its nothing special, and definitely shouldn't be priced to what it is, theres a few beers I would prefer this to, but many many more I would rather take, for instance Busch, Pabst, Icehouse, Samuel Adams, Rolling Rock, hell I would even rather have budweiser, and also notice how all those options are far cheaper than Corona, I do think they put something in the water in making this beer because while I wasnt impressed I craved another for a week or two. I have no Idea how this beer is more popular than Heineken.

I must admit, In the summertime I've probably drunk gallons of this stuff! When I think about this i realize why. I always made sure it was as cold as possible ( if it warmed up i was always sorry). I often drank it in mini bottles, added a pinch of salt, then juiced about 1/2 a lime. By this time there was very little remnant of the actual flavor of the beer remaining. Its a very musty smelling beer. There's this faint bitterness, accompanied by a corn after taste. The carbonation is also a killer. That being said as long as it was fully doctored, I wouldn't completely avoid this beer, but I definitely cannot and have not ever been able to drink one straight. For now I will stick to beer that has the ability to be delicious on it's own !

The ultimate showdown. Corona side-by-side: one with lime, one without.

Without: Naked Corona

A: The beer is crystal clear yellow in the similarly clear bottle. This allows the beer to soak up the maximum amount of sun possible, which is a good thing right? Some bubbles appear after prying off the bottle cap, but otherwise the body is pretty inactive. I didn't pour it into a glass, just seemed like the bottle was the best vessel for this offering. 3

S: The thin bottle top isn't the best means through which to catch the aroma of Corona, but what I do get is sugary sweet. A little bit of frat basement mixes with how your fingers smell after spilling some sugary juice on them. The slightest bit of beer is in there, too! 2

T: A taste only a mother could love. Very sugary sweet. Some malty caramel begs for something to balance it out, but all you are met with is stale American Adjunct Lager. 1

MF: Light and crisp, the body is what Corona is known for. It does go down well when you're on the beach, preferably directly after swimming in the ocean and swallowing so much seawater that you can't taste anything else. The finish is really off-putting, otherwise it wouldn't be terrible. 3

O: Really pales in comparison. You really are doing yourself a disservice by drinking this straight. 2

With: The Way God Intended It

A: The bottle looks even better with that attractive, vibrant green lime as a hat. The beer explodes to life as the acidic lime drops in, bubbling heavily and yielding a small, fizzy head. 3.5

S: This is where the lime really shows its merit. The lime mixes with the sugary aroma to smell like...well...lime juice. But that's better than what it was otherwise. 2.5

T: I have to tell you, I am honestly shocked how much better this is with a fresh lime wedge in it. The sugary taste that was begging for balance, finds it with the tartness of the lime. The finish is all lime juice, instead of the stale residual sugar from the regular version. 3

MF: Basically the same as the original, just without that nasty aftertaste. The lime really puts this beer on a different level, whatever that means. 3.5

O: The clear victor and still champion: Corona with a lime. 3

"Rapido! Rapido!" I woke from my slumber to a pounding headache, resembling an intense hangover. Whatever I was riding in was dark, dusty, and shaking from side to side. Sweat beaded down my face and I came to realize my situation: I somehow made it to Mexico again. Fuck. Suddenly my transport halted and I flew face first into the front of the hot metal cab. I heard several footsteps, definitely those of short Mexican men. The back doors flew open and I was blinded by the Sun. They grabbed me and threw me onto the dirt. "No mas, amigo! Andale!" I looked around to see what looked to be the Great Wall of Arizona and walked in what I thought was a straight line. The Mexican van took off spitting dust into the air. As I approached the border line, I reached into my pocket, finding a little crumpled paper with my handwriting. It read, "The secret ingredient to Corona: One Part Mexican Water, One Part Chicken Piss."

Not a beer worth drinking in just my humble opinion. Mexico makes so many great beers. Sorry this is to one of them. No taste whatsoever. For a full beer it tastes lighter than a light beer. And what is with adding the lime? Not for me, but hey whatever floats your boat.
