12 oz from a mix-and-match six, no date.
Pours a clear, dark brown chestnut. A finger of head fades to leave a meager puddle of lacing that fails to cover the entire head, like a woman caught leaving the shower with nothing but a hand towel to conceal herself. This dissipates fully after a sip.
The smell consists of roasted malts, brown sugar, and grassy hops, with a touch of caramel.
Negra Modelo tastes sweet in a very mellow, not over-the-top way. The German malts are gently roasted and hide a grainy sweetness that stays all the way through the finish, where it combines with a touch of minty and slightly bitter hops. Noticeable dextrins. Tastes like a euro lager run through the toaster... in a good way.
Feels fuller-bodied due to the dextrins, but is nowhere near "thick." Finish is pleasant with an unexpected tackiness on the tongue. Causes you to reach for that next sip as soon as you've put it down.
Simple but pleasant. If you are looking for a mild darker beer with a moderate balance of roasted malt and hops, this should hit the spot. Have knocked back quite a few of these and will continue to do so when out.
