Negra modelo is without a doubt my favorite Mexican Beer. Similar to Kilt lifter in look and feel its one of the few Mexican beers I've tried that i dont have to have a taco in my hand to enjoy. I thoroughly enjoy it and recommend it to all my friends when we go out for Mexican food.

i try this beer in the party of my birthday, is very good when is frozen in ice bar, only not have the same properties of the presentation on bottle, but its fight to gain my admiration, like a beer on tap, its brewery put much attention in its delivery, carefully installed its system of tap.

This is my go-to beer at any Mexican restaurant. I love how this beer is both dark and malty and yet also quite light. The carbonation balances out the dark malts perfectly. It is crisp and easy to drink, but with a pleasant toastiness. Also interesting how this beer is almost single-handedly keeping alive the "Vienna lager" style. All in all, a great beer.

12oz : pint glass

Clear amber brown with a fizzy, off white head.

Toasty, caramel malts. Very faint, if any, grassy/grainy hops.

Medium body, fizzy carbonation.

I went into this not knowing what to expect, as most Mexican beers are fairly forgettable, but I was pleasantly surprised by this one. It is a well done, easy drinking lager with a pleasant flavor profile.

Pours a brilliant light brown with a modest cream head that dissipates quickly to nothing.

Caramel, nutty malt reigns the aroma. Hints of diacetyl are evident. Hip character is minimal.

Toffee and butterscotch rule the flavor, very sweet, with toasted, nutty malt notes finishing slightly fruity.

Body and carbonation are moderate.

Diacetyl bomb, but flavorful malt character. It's on the sweet side, and the nutty notes make it appealing.

Pours a cola color with a modest layer of foam. Spotty bubbles that don't really lace.

Smells of sweet grains, a gentle toast, adjunct malts, and a bottom layer of soggy brown bread.

Dries up a little bit. Semi-sweet grains with a cereal note, barley malt, some corn, faint earthy bitterness, traces of hops, and some dark breadiness. Not a bad Euro Lager.

Drinks okay. Easy to work down. Carbonation is mild to medium. The body is pretty boring.

I'm 1,300 reviews in, and this is my first Mexican beer. Beers like this substantiate why.

Pored from a 12 oz bottle into a 14 oz "pint" glass. Pours semi transparent reddish amber with a small head that dissipates quickly. Smells of smells of some decent grain, a little fruitiness. Tastes of some fruitiness with caramelized grain, very nice. Beer is light bodied a tad heavily carbonated but it is very drinkable. Overall a good beer.

A: A clear gingery copper colour with a mushroom coloured head.

S: Smells like slightly metallic lager.

T: Pfft. Grainy, mellow and not bitter. Not perfectly dry. A hint of caramel and walnut but more so in the finish, which is otherwise pretty clean. Now it has warmed up there's a smidgen of citrus in the aftertaste and also some corn snacks.

M: Soft effervescence and almost creamy.

O: Cleaner and tastier than your average macro lager.

Nondescript brown. 1/4" head fades fairly quickly with no lacing.

Faint odor hard to place (our pourer said "caramely").

Starting cold it had a very subdued flavor (almost flavorless?) up front with a strong malty finish. As it warmed up the flavor started to show more and it "stings" the tongue a little instead of just rolling down.

Surprisingly not bad and a _lot_ better as it warms. We wouldn't buy it but we'd certainly drink it over a lot of other things we've tasted.

A: Dark, clear, amber color with a ton of carbonation. Has a very bubbly head and it looks like I just poured a Dr. Pepper on my mug.

S: I'm not getting much off the nose. The first initial sniff gave me sole caramel and a malty smell but it disappeared rather fast. There might be a hint of grass as well.

T: The beer gives a decent amount of hops and adjuncts and you can definitely taste them. The texture is very watery and there isn't as much malt flavor as I was expecting. Not a bad taste but not memorable in any way. It's just sort of...there.

M: Watery will a somewhat dry finish. Lots of burps.

O: A mildly bitter adjunct beer that has some OK flavors but is overall not very memorable. Not bold enough for my taste but definitely good with some tacos.

I would just like to say I thoroughly enjoy this beer. It has a slightly overwhelming smell once you pour it into the glass. However the taste is great. Perfect mix of malt and hops. When I poured it into a glass the carbonation was like a was pouring a glass of soda.

Overall, a good beer that is very, very drinkable.

First off, there is absolutely no good reason to put a lime wedge into a darker lager beer. For the purpose of this review enjoyed a bottle at a Mexican restaurant after said lime was extracted from the bottle neck. This is my favorite widely available beer down in Mexico and I will drink it here too should the occasion arise (Bavaria is another really good dark Mexican lager albeit harder to find at restaurants and bars). This brew is light brown, looking like iced tea or watery cola, with a decent amount of off-white to light tan head that will keep its shape for a bit provided you don't kill it off with lime juice. This beer is also served ice-cold pretty much anywhere you order it ... The initially weak aroma and flavors will develop if the beer is allowed to warm up a bit. Nose and palate jive quite nicely, amber and dark malts providing a mellow brown sugar backdrop with hints of raisin and roasted barley, along with vanilla-esque floral notes and some hops that recall sweet hay. The beer is highly carbonated and quite thin as one might expect, but well worth the attention that you probably wouldn't pay to a Corona or Sol. Malt forward but not aggressive and the mouthfeel is somewhat creamy. Less bold than other Munich Dunkels I've had and I think this is better classfied as a Graf-style Vienna lager. The aforementioned Bavaria is a Munich dunkel. But hey.

Poured from a bottle into a 12 oz plastic cup at the airport. It has a lovely clear medium-brown color with no lacing or head at all. Aroma is hops, caramel, and a bit of malt. Flavor is hops, malt, caramel, mild but balanced, and tipping a bit more to the hops side, which I enjoy. Mouthfeel is a bit foamy. Overall this is a good brown lager, but I really prefer ales--porters, stouts and IPAs.

Medium to large off white to maybe light tan head settles to a nice lacing above a clear bright copper amber colored beer.

Light caramel to almost chocolate malts with some different things coming through, spices, nutmeg, not sure but they're there but very light.

Light maybe caramel maybe chocolate malts mix well to give this beer a definite flavor but not in any particular direction, and then I added a slice of lime and this beer seemed to explode with flavors but again in no particular direction, light malts, light hops, light citrus fruits and lime.

Easy drinking beer with a lighter taste that brings a variety of light tastes but really you should throw a slice of lime in the mix and it becomes, to me, the best mass market Mexican beer out there.

A - This beer looks very appetizing with a dark brown chestnut color and very thin head.

S - My nose is a little stuffy right now but it smells a little bit like chocolate and malty sweetness

T - Instantly refreshing like a glass of water but then it hits you with the sweetness of the malt and an alcoholic afterglow. Not dry and stays wet well after the initial taste

M - Watery and thin but not too much so. Also not very heavy... Very nice on a hot day or with spicy foods.

O - For Mexican beer this one is well made and balanced. Sweet and refreshing without too much bitterness. A slightly heavier mouthfeel would please me more but this beer is good as is.

its not the best beer it has a sour taste and i always notice people spit after they drink it at the clubs. I would prefere a pabts blue ribbion or a micky instead of this. it taste ok when lime is added but other then that it has a bull flavor. If anything i would consider this as a last minute beer.

Pours a mahogany color and crystal clear. Deep, dark and brilliant copper. Has a beige or off white head of creamy foam that fell pretty fast and left wet lace. It refreshes itself to a ring around the glass. The nose was malty and sweet with caramel and lots of bread. Touch of citrus over the top and faint lager yeast character to make it pretty attractive to the nose. It tastes pretty good. It's sweet and has some floral hops in the drink. But the lions share is a very smooth and flowing malt. It's not cloying and the sweetness is never out of hand. The lager character takes over in the after taste with that yeast and spice and the citrus keeps it lively and juicy.

This beer was a surprise. I have heard so much about how bad the mexican beers and I was prepared for awful. I even bought a lime . . . just in case. This drank deliciously. Exceptional color, exceptionally smooth and the sweetness is just what you want alongside a spicy dish of mexican or southwestern food. In fact the body of this beer was very well done. It wasn't watery, it wasn't thick . It was neutral if that makes any sense. Where I could criticize is that the sweetness flattens it a little. The citrus could have been a little more too. It had the faintest hop bitter to accentuate the finish but that was weak as well.

Pretty good overall.

Dark auburn which glows like an ember in the light. A silky cap sticks around.

Not a typical mexican beer smell, fortunately. Bits of cocoa amongst floral & herby notes. Raisin and dark chocolate.

The taste is light fruit and chocolate. There is a watery taste reminiscent of macro breweries but it is negligible. There is no depth or finish to the beer, really just a simple sweet fruity taste.

Carbonation is light and refreshing.

This is one of those beers that you buy if you are in a grocery store with not exactly the most divine of selections. Passable, not outstanding.

S: Clean yeast, sweet rich malt, citrusy hops.

T: Rich malty backbone with toffee, sweet bread, honey, and citrus.

One of the 1001 Beers you must taste before you die -- #31 of the ones I've reviewed here.

I confess I rather like this beer -- I think it's sort of underrated. Not great, not by any means, but certainly underrated.

It has an absolute perfect appearance, a very nice reddish brown that leans maybe a hair more red than other mahogany brews, I'm not sure I've ever seen any other beer with quite this color. The nose and taste is nothing overwhelming special, a little sweet malt, although I like it at least as much as Sam Adams Boston Lager, say. I think the mouthfeel on this is particularly nice, it's very light and effervescent, which sort of works against the color and style but does add a level of refreshment to this which I think is quite nice.

I don't want to oversell this, it's no classic. But I do think it's better than the general run of Mexican beers, at least the ones you can easily get in the states, and I do recommend it.

S - Pint glass poured from the bottle.

A - Pours a relatively clear, dark ruby brown with a light finger width head. Short retention, leading to a broken layer of small bubbles across the surface.

S - Weak aroma. Subtle caramel notes. Not much else.

T - Follows the nose. Light but predominant caramel flavor. Ghostly presence of nuttiness and hops.

M - Light to medium body with lively carbonation. Tingles the tongue. Goes down smooth and easy.

O - My beer of choice when dining at a Mexican restaurant, only because of lack of selection. Not a bad beer, I simply want something more bold from a beer this dark.
