Not bad for a Mexican beer... trumps most of their lighter offerings. However I just did not find it that interesting. Toffee and malt flavors are readily present but thats about as far as the complexity goes. Beer is smooth the drink. If I were in Mexico, this would probably be my session beer as I prefer it over all the other lager type beers I've had from there, but I wouldn't go out of my way to get it.

Ap. Pours a nice caramel color, but no head or lacing at all.
Sm. Not a strong smell, sweetness and caramel.
Ta. Some chocolate, caramel. A nice sweetness with a smooth finish.
Mf. Light carbonation, pleasant.
Dr. Yes indeedy. It goes down very easy and tastes great on the way. I first encountered Negra Modelo in Berrego Springs, CA and fell in love with it.

12oz bottle at room temperature.

Highly carbonated head disappears like it was never there. A reddish amber, dark and pleasing to the eye, next to the slightly darker bottle. Aroma, what little there is, just hints at hops. The carbonation works along the tongue, with sweet malt running over it, shades of nuts and fruit. The hops don't seem to be there, which leads to it being on the sweet side just a bit too much. Slightly dry pull on the aftertaste, which is clean for the most part.

Not overly exciting enough to drink on its own, and not refreshing enough for a summer's day. Best as a companion to more interesting food. If this were the only beer on a Mexican restaurant menu along with other Modelo offerings and Dos Equis, I'd choose it. Would go great with chicken enchiladas in green sauce. Mmm... enchiladas. Cute squat bottle with a waist where the neck ends, the cutest one I've seen so far.

While calling this a Munich Dunkel Lager is an insult to the style, this is probably my favorite mexican beer.

Had many times, but my formal review comes from a mexican restaurant tonight after a 7 hour brew session.

Dark brown/ruby, yet quite clear.

Not a lot on the nose. Decent amount of malts, for what it is.

Taste, very crisp and clean, with that hint of dark malts that keeps you in check.

Light crisp mouthfeel.

Very drinkable, especially of the Mexican offerings. Highly recommended.

Had this beer yesterday out of the bottle and got a chance to try it on tap at a local mexican restruant. I dont know if they got a bad keg or something, but the differance between on-tap and out of the bottle is huge. God awful beer, smelled like burnt rubber, had a huge lack of carbonation...completly flat. No head to speak of, and the beer even tasted slightly warm. Ill be checking back to see if anyone else had the same expierance.

Good beer out of the bottle though.
