The bottle is so classic, that I actually saved about 70 for home brewing. But getting back to the beer itself, this has got to be one of the most drinkable and best "gut feels" of any beer . . anywhere. Simply a "go to" beer when you can't decide exactly what you want. You can't go wrong with this on . . and you should drink it right out of the bottle, because you never have to worry about that bottle tipping over. A beautiful thing.

SLast sampled back on 3/3/16 but had this several times in the past, both on tap and in a bottle. Bottle chilled down to 36 degrees F in my beer cooler and poured into a "CORONA" pint glass.

Aroma is of caramel malts and hint of brown sugar. Taste follows the nose. Goes down very easy. Always very pleased with this brew and probably my most favorite of the Mexican beers.

Had one of these with Chipotle for lunch. Nothing at all wrong with it, just very bland overall. I almost always go with XX when doing anything Mexican and this isn't XX but still better than Corona.

Pours a nice nutty brown shade. Average head retention and lace. The aroma is mostly lager, yeasty with hints of caramel. Flavors pretty much the same here, nutty, caramel, and bready lager. My favorite Mexican beer, and extra kudos that its a Vienna Lager, but then again... i don't prefer Mexican beer unless i'm devouring a Taco, Burrito, or any other vessel for those classic ingredients paired south of the border.

Great, easy drinking Vienna lager. Smell and taste is roasted sweet malts, sweet brown bread, caramel, maybe a bit of chocolate nuttiness. Finishes off with with just a hint of hoppy bitterness and pepper

One of my favorites. Decent Vienna lager. Consumed at Hacienda Mexican restaurant in St. Louis. You don't need a lime for this one as it is quite flavorful. Was somewhat sweet. Carbonation was perfect for this beer.

When I saw this Amber beer from Mexico at the shelf I just HAD to try it!

I've been warned from beerfriends but I want to get my own opinion about this beer.

The beer is clear, deep brown, copper colored with a one finger high, beige, head that leaves no lacing on the glass.

Nose: Not much here... Some carmel malt, fudge, bread, brown sugar, syrup, butter and grass.
Taste: Lager-like... Some sweetness, caramel, brown sugar, dried fruit, a bit of chocolate and malt.
Mouth: Light mouthfeel and carbonation. Easy drinking. Some sweetness. Oily texture.

Not that bad really! Nothing to write home about but still...

It was the best draft option at a local Mexican food restaurant. It was served with a lime twist, which is a bit strange if you view this as a dunkel. Tastes OK, somewhat bland.

Poured from the bottle a rich, deep brown with a modest tan head that faded fairly fast and left a bit of spotty lacing.
Aroma is mostly caramel with a hint of bread and roastiness.
Taste is initially sweet with caramel and bread notes but there is a satisfying bitter bite backing it up.
Mouthfeel is light to medium with a fair amount of carbonation.
Overall, tasty and refreshing and a great combo with Amer/Mex food.

Poured from a bottle at a Mexican restaurant. Came with a slice of lime but I wanted nothing to do with that and squeezed it in my glass of water instead. Has a brownish, woody, caramel color. Smells sweet, caramelly and lagery. Tastes sweet and malty, with a bit of bitterness to even it out. Feels fairly light and refreshing, perfect to compliment spicy Mexican cuisine. Overall this is my favorite Mexican beer I've had so far. If I'm at a Mexican restaurant and any friends plan on ordering a Corona or something, I'll recommend they give this a try instead.

Darkest brown, caramel, brown bready-ness, a hop bitterness to balance any sweetness. I've enjoyed this in the past with Mexican food, and it pairs well at dessert with flan.

Much better than the normal pale lagers from Mexico . Dark , similar to a schwarzbier. I should have ditched the lime sooner. It did add a little bit of flavor , but may have obstructed some of this beers character .

I liked this one - it is a great dark beer to partner with some good Mexican or Tex-Mex food. It's dark and full but has some sweet finishes as well.

Bottle. Enjoyed with some decent Mexican food. Aroma was soft and mostly sweet with a mild lager scent to it as well. Flavor was slightly bread with caramel. Very soft lager yeast flavor and a brown graininess. Very light. Easy to drink but probably would prefer a paler lager to crush some Mexican food with next time.

12 oz. bottle into a pint glass

A - Hard pour produces 2 finger foamy off white head. Head dissipates moderately quickly. Head is retained at about 1/4 finger. Beer is clear and brown/mahogany in color. Carbonation appears to be light based on minimal bubbles but those bubbles do rise somewhat quickly. 3.5/5

S - Pronounced caramel sweetness up front backed by a dark toasted bready malt. Reminds me of fresh baked pumpernickel bread. Ever so slight note of grassy hops on the back of the aroma. 3.5/5

T - Rich caramel maltiness up front followed by buttered pumpernickel bread. Very malt forward with somewhat of a graham cracker note to the middle. A hint of citrus peel right before the hops kick in. Grassy hop finish with a light bitterness from the hops. 3.5/5

M - Somewhat unexpected carbonation burn based on appearance of light carbonation. Beer is medium bodied but retains lightness due to carbonation. Finishes light on the palate but does linger a bit. No drying astringency. 3.5/5

O - Very straightforward beer here that is very easy to drink. This medium bodied beer maintains a lightness that allows it to be paired with many different foods or to simply be enjoyed on it's own. Nothing earth shattering of palate tantalizing, just simple and straightforward maltiness. 3.5/5

Pours out dark has some sort of amber color to it. Head disappeared very quickly. Smells like bread and malts. Taste very sweet. Hops and some chocolate malts are present. Finishes like modelo taste a bit watered down compared to it. Better than modelo in my opinion.

Used to be one of my favorites -- a sort of dividing line between shitty Mexican beer and something approaching respectability. Honestly, though, this most recent bottle was kinda forgettable. Sure, it's got some hint of darker malt, kinda/sorta/if-you-think-really-hard-about-it touch of cocoa, a la a Munich dark lager. But, really, it's not terribly well done, and if you're looking for something in this style, I'm not sure why wouldn't just buy an HB or Ayinger and call it a day. And, should you be looking for Mexican beer, just buy Pacifico and bask in its grainy goodness. Sorry, Negra, but I just don't think this is working out anymore.

Poured from 12-ounce bottle into a pokal. Not too impressed with this at first, but allowing it to warm up made a marked improvement in both aroma and taste. Dark caramel color with a thin head that dissipated after only a few seconds. Watery mouthfeel due in part to the low carbonation. Sweet roasted malts up front, a little bitterness at the end, with a lingering, unpleasant sweet aftertaste. This is a one-and-done for me.

A dark brown almost see through appearance with a slightly spiced bread smell. The flavor is light and watery, sweet bread like with a hint of hops at the end. This is an extremely drinkable beer that goes down very smooth. I hit the jackpot today with the past 2 I've tried. Next time your at a Mexican restaurant you've got to hope they have it to gulp down with your food or just start pounding them and wait for the mariochy band. The only thing I didn't like was the foil on the cap if you can look past that you might give it an A+ but I can't so a rock solid A it is.

A nice dark brown brew with thin ring of a head in the brown bottle. Slightly sour grain note on the nose, but a big malty flavor. Closes with mild bitterness. Bright and drinkable. Tasty.

My memory must be failing me; I thought I liked this beer. Brown sugar, dark chocolate and tin foil on the nose (I changed hands in case the actual tin foil was lingering—nope, still there). Color is watered-down cola. Taste is watered-down cola with dark chocolate and hops on the finish. Maybe I recall having liked this after I've drunk several.

(Next day): revisiting thanks to an odd experience. Though the lot number is the same, the 5th that I've now opened of this 6er is markedly different. (Edit: so is the 6th, thankfully.) The nose on this one is toast, semi-sweet chocolate and, yes, tin foil. Markedly more amber in color. The taste is primarily reminiscent of Dr. Pepper with dark chocolate and a slight splash of citrus on the finish. This one's also not quite so watered-down. Still nothing to rave about, but far more serviceable. Original rating: 2; revised: 2.75.

Not nearly as bad as expected, this pours brown with thin off-white head. Aroma of caramel and mild spice. Flavor is semisweet, with some malt and slight nastiness of commercial lager. I was pleasantly surprised and would have this again if needed.

Had 3 pints of the stuff last week at a Mexican restaurant in Austin and 1 12 ounce bottle as I write this. Don't understand the reviews that talk about a "good head" or "white bubbly head" because neither the drafts at the restaurant or my bottle tonight (poured into a Spigelau stemmed Pilsner glass, in case you're wondering) had any head on them at all. If you want a bland, flat, dark beer, this is for you. I will go elsewhere.

Tasted good, especially with lime garnish

Nice blend mostly malt and caramel with a mild hoppy touch. Clear brown color with a small head. Bubbles rose up like champagne. Nicely carbonated and foamy. This is a great beer.

poured a deep amber colour, good head on it. I noted little smell to it at all. the taste is sweet and malty. A good mouth feel was light slightly crisp and refreshing (the way a good summer brew aught to be). All and all a good everyday beer. kinda a good combination of no frills and entrigue.
