I guess this is a harder to find version of Corona, something of a "draught version"? Whatever it is, the only thing going for it is the cool little 325mL bottle. It is even lighter than Corona Extra, and has even less flavor. I challenge anyone to get through even one of these tiny little cute bottles.

The positive - an interesting, rounded-stubby bottle. The negative - pretty much everything else. Staying at a resort that only had Corona on tap and this in the room mini-fridge, and it made the Corona look good in comparison. Sharp, acidic malt up front, drying with strong corn notes. A bit chalky at the finish with some raw grain notes. It was a bit of a struggle to get it down, even well chilled.

I truly believe there are different beers for different occasions. So when I rate Barrilito overall as a 3.00, I do so visualizing a sunny day, a sandy beach, warm blue water and a bucket of ice filled with bottles of Barrilito.

Cool, crisp, and refreshing, Barrilito is light with a carbonated and clean finish that won't weigh or slow you down. You can swim, play volleyball and toss down a few of these with absolutely no consequences. This is a beer for an active lifestyle.

Wanna keep things light and easy? This is your beer. Want depth, flavor and "feeling", there are more substantial Lagers to choose from.

325ml round stubby poured into pint glass 28/8/12

A clear pale yellow with lots of tiny bubbles but just a thin soapy film that gone in seconds and leaves no lace

S wet cardboard, rice cake and a little skunk

T not as much skunk but nothing too write home about, lack of flavor may not be a bad thing for this one

M very thin and airy, I think theres more flavor on the finish then while drinking it

O perhaps a safe alternative to the tap water here in Mexico, I think the tap water might have more flavor however

one and done, even in this unbearable heat this wasen´t very good it was the round stubby bottle that grabbed my attention

Pale gold color, very much darker than its other Corona cousins. Aromas of malts and some hops. Taste of semi-dry malts and with much bitterness from hops than the traditional style. Nice drinkability. It's still a very thin beer but with a little bit more body than regular Corona.

Was on sale at Chedraui and I couldn't resist the barrel-shaped bottles - adorbs! Winkyface. It does look pretty cute in my coozy.

Pours a pale straw, crystal clear, any head you can coax out of the thing vanishes instantly.

Smells like... well, I really have to work at the damn thing to smell anything. It's kind of... beery? A vague bit of ricey-ness I guess? But nothing off to speak of, which counts for something.

Tastes like... again, hm... It's kind of beery? Mineral water with a faint soapy bitterness on the finish. Boring - but, again, pretty clean.

Mouthfeel is fine. A touch overcarbonated I suppose.

A (clean but) below-average beer. Not awful, but you can do better than this one. It's going in the Michelada pile.

Recently had this while vacationing in Cancun. Purchased in a 6-pack of unique stubby brown bottles. None of the locals knew any details of the beer or how it was different from regular Corona.

More bitterness and "beer flavor" than regular clear bottle Corona Extra. Nothing stood out about the beer, good or bad, other than that.

Rating per style it is difficult as there were relatively few good beers available in that region. When put up against other beers in it's category, it was quite decent. Overall however, Bohemia or Negra Modelo are much better Mexican beers, though obviously of different style.

ABV 3,6%
bottle 325ml
Pours a very light yellow colour beer with a froathy two finger head that disappears until you leave your bottle down.
Bad smell, smells as really old dried beer on your t-shirt would smell.
Nothing great on taste too, very flat taste with a trace of lemons and metallic too. Enjoyable though.
On the body is thin with average carbonation.
Overall I think it would make a great party beer, is cheap and enjoyable. Based on that, I'll give it an overall mark of 3.

Barrilito is fun to take to the beach, small barrell-looking bottles are fun too. I like this beer but i don´t love it. This is the same beer as the Corona Extra, with the amber bottle is better protected.

Consumed in October 2004 in Cancun, Mexico in the small stubby bottle. Very confused!!! Is this different than Corona or the Corona Familiar? Tastes the same as the familiar. A bit more stronger than Corona extra. Tastes a little better, and fairly easy to consume on a hot day. Cheap as hell in Mexico too. Can't beat $33 peso's for a six pack. Drank these mostly while kicking back on the beach.

Appearance: ugly pale yellow, poor head of foam;
Smell: smooth with some malt, cereals and carbonation;
Taste: Very little essence of malt;
Mouthfeel: Refreshing, fizzy and high carbonation;
Drinkability is faulty, althogh is tasty with food or alone, the volume of alcohol is like of a light beer.

Curiously shaped bottle poured into a mug in Cabo San Lucas. A pale straw color with a surprisingly robust creamy white head of three fingers height. Low ABV and flavor make me think this is really a light lager but I suppose most beers in Mexico fit that description anyhow. In an ocean of grainy off-notes, cooked corn flavors and manic carbonation, this one comes off as classy, clean, and well-crafted if still fundamenally lacking in the character department. There's a slight buttered popcorn flavor and a whiff of grassy hops, no skunky reek or strong DMS, maybe this one is TOO clean. Mellow sweetness persists into the finish. Typically thin and watery. In any event, nothing offensive per se and refreshing under the right circumstances.

I received this one from a friend that brought over from Mexico. He mention that this one was high in alcohol. Sadly not even close. Pale in color and a white head. This beer has a light fragrance. Hints of crystal malts and spivey notes. Not a big deal. Taste is very similar to the macros and quite refreshing lager. A session beer that will meet the masses. Slight more flavor then your typical corona.

Modelo states that this draft is a different beer from Corona Extra, and I'm willing to believe them.
This is a beer that I have never drank in a glass. This is a party brew! So I don't know how it behaves after pouring.
At least its smell isn't skuny (thank God!).
More bitter than Corona Extra, with a grassy aftertaste.
Clear, crisp mouthfeel.
Very easy to drink a full six pack.
Price is the issue here. This one in dirt cheap, even for Mexican standards.

Not like Corona extra. Picked up a six of this in Playa del Carmen. Neat little barrel shaped bottles. Wish it was imported to the states. Pours a bit darker than the Corona we are brain washed to drink. Smells and tastes NOT of a skunked beer(Corona itself) but a pleasant malty balance. A bit heavier on taste which makes it all the more appealing. If they could have this on tap, it would be a big hit here. Great vacation beer or any time of year brew. Wish I had some more but will have to wait till my next Mexican vacation.

This light tan beer produced very little head and it carried a light hoppiness on the nose. It was actually quite refreshing that finished fairly clean. Loved the water balloon shaped bottle that fit perfectly in your hand. I did pour it in a glass when I did a tasting on the beach but also drank on back straight out of the bottle. Just had to.

Beer of barrel or draft; made in mexico City; cheap, clear and quickly dried blond color due to its malts; total flavor, robust, of malted scent, and to hops flower; to deal with Mexican food and to with friends reunion; to take direct from the bottle since it conserves his carbonation perfectly; recommended 90%.

A- Clear golden yellow with a quickly dissipating head.

S- Sweet and slighty grainy.

T-Sweet And refreshing.

M- Light bodied with moderate carbonation.

O- Not a bad beer, very refreshing.

This beer is actually better than I was expecting. It's nothing special, but better than most adjunct beers.

Barrilito has a thick, white head, a clear, bubbly (etched glass), straw appearance, with visible white particles roiling about, and some decent lacing strips left behind. The aroma is of sweet, lightly-roasted malt, and the flavor is the same, with some very low level hop note at the end. Mouthfeel is light and watery, and Barrilito finishes crisp, clean, refreshing, and highly drinkable. This comes across more like a light beer than a regular beer. No bad notes, though.

Poured from 325mL bottle into a goblet.

Appearance: light golden hue with a completely clear body and a thin layer of white foam which dissipated quickly. Par for the style.

Smell: light, clean malt hue. Free of major flaws and, while quite light, does not reek of adjuncts like corn or rice. Decent.

Taste: light malt; not particularly sweet and a little bit grainy. At 3.6%, it's hard to have much of a flavor, especially for the style. Bitterness is low but perceptible.

Mouthfeel: light in body but quite effervescent, leaving a pleasing if evanescent creaminess. I like it.

Overall: quite refreshing and drinkable, this is turning into a nice session beer during my Mexican adventure.

Bought a six-pack in Mexico for about 2 bucks. This crap is better than the Corona extra and, of course, Budwieser. Corona Barril works best in an outdoor party setting, and is best when ice cold. This stuff actually had a little malt flavor accent and hop flavors above the Corona Extra that all the yuppies suck down. Comes in a short stubby brown barrel-like bottle.

Barrilito has one of the most distinct bottles I've seen in some time; the beer itself, however, is entirely commonplace looking. This clear, cheery yellow lager could not be picked out of a line up of nothing. The faintness of its colour suggests an even lighter than expected beer, and its inability to retain any head seems to confirm that assumption.

Upon cracking the crown, Barrilito unleashed a light-struck aroma that I thought was possible only in green or clear glass bottles. In the glass, however, I'm pleased to report that it smells, not just neutral, but a little bit charming, in its own Mexican swill lager way. The clean, cereal malt scent brings back memories of warm, white sand beaches.

And best of all, it's virtually free of any off-putting adjuncts or noteworthy unpleasantries. I can't defend the flavour as being anything other than bland, but when we're talking Latin American industrial lagers that's about the best you can hope for. The absence of corn (or worse, corn syrup) is a definite plus, and ensures a fairly enjoyable lager.

It's hard to note any flavour specifics in such a neutral-tasting beer. Honestly, I got nothing. Anything I might come up with will surely begin with the prefix 'watery-', because the profile is that thin and diluted, which, bearing in mind the climate for which it's brewed, is not necessarily such a bad thing. This is plain, true, but at least it qualifies as refreshing.

If I got stuck with Barrilito at an all-inclusive resort I wouldn't complain. There's much worse situations to find yourself in. Compared to Sol or Corona or any number of other Mexican swill brands, I found this much more agreeable and much more respectable, if for nothing more than being a clean hot weather quaff. And the bottle is cute, there I said it!

Day 11 , Quest for a great Mexican Beer continues. The short squat bottles remined me of days gone by and Mickeys malt liquor. A bit darker than Corona and a bit more taste ,light hops and malt and a wave of corn. Overall a good beer down here in Monterrey!

A good Mexican beer. I love the bottle. Feels like your holding a hand grenade. The taste was very similar to a corona. It does not give much of a head when poured, but this is common to Mexican lagers. Overall, this beer is very drinkable and is really good for parties that you would invite unseasoned beer enthusiasts. Cheers!!!
