The beer pours a pitch-black color with a planetary sized head that is semi-creamy in texture, and a winsome light chocolate color as it evanesces the lace forms a concealing curtain to drape the glass. Nose has sweet chocolate hints and a nice toasted grain aroma with tones of fresh ground coffee, the start ambrosial, rich in malt and the top middling in feel. Finish is benign in its carbonation; hops are pleasing and mild in their spiciness with the aftertaste quite dry and long lasting, another quite pleasant beer from a new favorite brewery.

12 oz, brown, longneck bottle, capped. No date.

This stout poured black with creamy, light brown foam that persisted and coated the glass. The smell was a tangy, dark malt and oatmeal aroma with hints of coffee and hops. The taste was rather sout and acidic but this lessened somewhat as the glass warmed up. There were flavors of oatmeal, dark malt, cocoa, and barley. The aftertaste had notes of oatmeal and chocolate amidst the tangy sourness. The mouthfeel was smooth despite the tanginess and tartness. The body was medium with low carbonation. This seems to be a decent stout, but perhaps some batches are more sour than others?

Virtually black, with a deep garnet haze when held to light. Well retained, pitted tan head leaves dense lace. The aroma is an odd melange of sharp, mildly carbonized unmalted barley, lightly tart pearish esters, dark chocolate and slightly obtrusive sweet notes of lychee. Transient wash of toffeeish sweetness upfront in flavor is ensued by faint coffeeish barley and an lightly acidic, citric twang, not quite sour enough to be lactic acid derived. Understated, unsweetened cocoa powder like chocolate malt presence. Although mild in hop bitterness, the drying, tart character offsets the minimal residual sweetness nearly completely, lending an inapproriately dry overall profile. Well attenuated and lacking the glucanaceous silk characteristic of good oatmeal stouts. Finishes surprisingly clean and cleanly roasty, but that's too little too late. Although "off", the inherent tartness grew on me. Akin to an overly acidified dry stout. Drinks like a lambic, tastes like an off Bell's. A dissappointing experience overall, yet I drank the whole bottle readily. Odd.

Light slightly roast malt aroma. Very fizzy, extremely big head that settles so slow that it made it difficult to pour much in order to drink. Dark brown to black with red hues. Clear. Straight stout malt flavor with softening qualities of the oats. Mildly dry and same for length of finish. Fullness from carbonation, otherwise medium Fairly straight oatmeal stout, not very complex but enjoyable in a simple way.

On tap: Color is a deep, deep, deep, dark brown, nearly black. Actually so close to black you could say its black. Arrived with a off-white creamy looking head about a finger high. Smells faintly of roasted malt, slightly grassy hop, very clean and slightly crisp. Taste is mildly roasted malt of cocoa with a bread-like dryness throughout, very easy and smooth, and a touch of bittery tang, quite nice. Feel is a solid medium body, with more of a grainy-like texture then creamy, and is slightly tanged of sourdough yeast in the finish. Very smooth and drinkable, Pretty darn good oatmeal stout. I think being on tap helped this be quite enjoyable. Yum. The bottled version is far sweeter, on-tap is where its at for this oatmeal stout.

Dark Ruby color. Barely any head is generated up pouring. Aroma is of coffee and nuts. It seem like there is a slight acetaldehyde presence in this beer. It's so slight that it doesn't really stand out like a wart or anything though. The mouthfeel lacks carbonation and creaminess. Body is light medium. This beer seems flat and watery. There is some slight roastiness and java present. But overall, I wouldn't recommend this one. However, it's not one I'll dump out either.

Never had an oatmeal stout, one of my favorite styles, on draft before, and now that I have, fellows and ladies, let me say it can't be beat! Totally black in color, with a fine, tan head. Aroma is soft and sweet, with notes of cocoa, vanilla, and cream. Some bitterness on the palate, but nothing harsh. Not quite as roasty as the benchmark for this style, Samuel Smith's, but what is? Goes down extremely well, with plenty of body, texture, and bite. Gritty, substantial, but quite quaffable. An outstanding stout!

Dark, creamy pour. A real smoothie with pronounced chocolate smell and chocolate/toffee taste. Stays in the mouth long after the swallow. Needs a touch more roastedness in the malt department for me, but a nice Oatmeal nevertheless.
