Color- clear gold. Full head.

Aroma- citrusy hops and lemon Jolly Rancher.

Taste- a pleasant, light, sessionable IPA from Big Sky. My rating reflects this brews quality in relation to similar light session IPAs. Starts mildly hoppy with a malty middle, finishing with a pleasantly soft hop note (think English ESB) lingering long and dry. A great hot summer day session IPA! 30 IBUs. Purchased at Whole Foods in Austin for $5.99 / six pack.

Poured from 355 ml bottle into a Liefmans Goudenband glass (my preferred all purpose beer tasting glass). Tasted June 2014.

Apple-juice gold color, kinda limpid, with very little head. Nose offers some nicely resinous hops. Flavor is ... uh, not very good. The beer lacks good carbonation, and there really isn't all that much bitterness. Malt is grainy and hop flavor is one dimensional, a little grassy, and not too assertive. This beer needs to be retired, with Big Sky going back to drawing board.

A: Pours a somewhat translucent golden with a white head.

S: Orange, citrus rind, some slightly sour fruity notes in the nose, as well as some tropical fruit.

T: Orange, lemon, citrus rind, grapefruit, pine, not much malt. Fairly typical IPA, but light on bitterness and somewhat light on flavor, though not watery or flavorless at all.

M: Medium-light bodied and smooth.

O: Not the tastiest IPA, but it does taste good. Honestly, I don't think this is an IPA. It's more of a lightish American Pale Ale. Still, good for what it was meant for: being drinkable, tasty and light.

This is an IPA? Don't believe it! And if you're an IPA fan, don't waste your money. Pygmy Owl is a forgettable beer that has none of the qualities you would expect from an IPA. Overall, I agree with ONovoMexicano's review (scroll down). He's right when he stresses the "weak" and "watered down" qualities of Pygmy Owl. There is no complexity, none of the hoppy, layered flavor that you want in an IPA. In short, Pygmy Owl is utterly unrewarding.
