American Brown Ale |  5.30% ABV

Availability: Year-round

Notes/Commercial Description:
It's chocolate brown in color with a creamy texture. A malty beer with just enough hop presence to keep it from being too sweet. The aroma mostly comes from the malt with a hint of spice added by the hops. Moose Drool is brewed with pale, caramel, chocolate, and whole black malts; and Kent Goldings, Liberty, and Willamette hops.

Reviewed at Johnson's Campground, St Mary, MT. Full notes taken to my phone.

A- Brown beer poured from a 12oz bottle to a goblet at glacier camping. Small light nutty tan head forms to one finger with fair retention. Small bubbly ring leaves rare spots of lace.

S- Nutty and deeply toasted malt aromas lead off the nose of the beer which is overall influenced mostly from the grains. Toffee, butter, brown sugar and caramel. Yeast gives some dark dry fruit and bready hints.

T- Yeast picks up a bit here with the dry spicy dark fruits like fig and raisin and some apple esters giving more influence. Malts still the key with toasted, nutty, cereal grain, caramel and dark sugar sweets. Ever so slight hint of roast.

MF- Medium thick body, maybe a tad toward the light side with a foamy texture. High end carbonation with a slight bitter finish.

Brown ale that is towards the drinkable side and reminds me of English style Browns with the body and toffee nutty flavor.

Appearance-dark brown w/ slightly amber hue and very thin head.

Aroma- Malty sweetness, brown sugar, and caramel.

Taste- First sip is surprising with some citrus hop flavor that helps to lighten up the strong caramel malt. Citrus fades quickly and malt dominates with slight roast flavor and caramel/chocolate sweetness. Sweet, but not overly sweet.

Feel- Slightly sticky from the malt, but overall clean and very drinkable. Medium bodied, slightly thin.

Overall- Very well balanced brown ale with great malt flavor and interesting hop presence. Very drinkable and worth repurchasing for sure. Also perfect when paired with BBQ.

Poured from 12 oz bottle into shaker pint glass.
A: Pours a clear caramel brown with 1/4 inch light tan head with decent retention.
S: Sweet caramel malt and nutty.
T: Sweet caramel malt, toffee, nutty, and hints of raisin.
M: Smooth and oily feel. Light-medium body. Sweet with a mildly dry finish. Pleasant mouthfeel.
D: Not complex and won't knock your socks off. A solid session beer. Could definitely enjoy a few of these with friends.
