Notes & Commercial Description:
Beer added by: kbub6f on 12-16-2001

It's chocolate brown in color with a creamy texture. A malty beer with just enough hop presence to keep it from being too sweet. The aroma mostly comes from the malt with a hint of spice added by the hops. Moose Drool is brewed with pale, caramel, chocolate, and whole black malts; and Kent Goldings, Liberty, and Willamette hops.

12oz bottle from Beermasons. Poured into a dimpled handle Kent Old Brown glass.

Big fluffy tan head of foam sits atop the true brown coloured ale. Streaky lacing as the foam falls, still the retention (albeit off a big base) was good.

Smells of nutty malt, caramel and a touch of toffee. Not uber-intense, but enough to keep you interested.

Taste has a mix of nutty malt and caramel with the malt proving the stronger in the end. Not too sweet however.

Full finish, medium body, no booze. Seems to tick all the boxes pretty well in this regard. Doesn't have a real super-sweet kick at the end which is good.

As far as brown ales go, this is pretty good. What it does it does well. Nicely balanced ale that seems to get it pretty right. Enjoyable and worth drinking.

Poured into a pint glass, this beer has a beautiful dark amber body, is crystal clear and has some mild carbonation. The amber body is topped off with a nice thick off white head that’s fluffy and creamy and sticks around for a while. I picked up some hints of malts, light hops, caramel and citrus fruits. Its sharp when it first hits your tongue, but is very smooth and slightly tart when it hits the sides of your mouth. I can taste some orange zest, mild hops and wheat along with slight grapefruit aftertaste that’s slightly bitter. There’s some good lacing going on too…

Appearance - Pours a dark chestnut or mahogany with a tan 2 finger head, average retention, and the resulting lace is thin but sticky.

Smell - Not much. A touch of sweet, nutty malt.

Taste - Moderately flavored, with faint notes of caramel and chocolate. Behind this, a subtle amount of earthy hop bitterness.

Mouthfeel - Light to medium body, with a moderate amount of carbonation, lending to a minimally crisp bite.

Overall - A fairly bland brown. Nothing offensive in the scent or flavor, but there's not a whole lot of that to begin with. It's smooth and drinkable, and that's about it.
