750ml bottle poured into my snifter
Appearance is opaque black with a huge dense two and a half inch head. The head was mocha colored with good head rention and lacing clinging to my glass.
Smell consist of oak as a main aroma with bourbon soaked raisins and dark cherries. Underlying scent of plums and prunes. Milk chocolate with espresso, vanilla, and some roasted barley. Hop presence can be detected in the bitterness of the aroma. Overall great lavender type smell.
Upfront taste is a little bitter with barley and a dark chocolate taste. Pursuing is a taste of milk chocolate, vanilla, and a great oak presence. Midway plums, dates and a slight tart cherrie finish.
Mouthfeel is medium to full bodied with average carbonation. Not as thick as other RIS, which I feel it needed.
Overall great beer and only complaint is I wish it had a thicker body.
