Pours a shiny, translucent amber into my Celebration Ale pint glass, with a sturdy, fluffy head, off-white in color. Smell: immediate crinkle of hop citrus notes that turn gradually peppery with a melon (watermelon) rind sweetness holding up the background. Taste: toasted grainy flavors encompass the hop bitterness, rapier-like in its narrow sharpness. The middle is less interesting, as it almost seems to deflate into a mere echo of that promising first jolt; there is no real progression. The finish is an almost puckering residue of hop bitterness at the back of my palate with hints of alcohol warmth. Mouthfeel is slightly thin and plenty carbonated.
Drinkable but not a first class American IPA.
