Thanks to the folks at Erie for the sample, I'll serve this at between fridge and cellar temperature in an oversize snifter.

Appearance- Well there's no question this beer looks huge... it pours hazy and viscous, like an old barleywine waiting to take its virgin breath after years in the cellar. The head rises a quarter-inch before hissing away, becoming nothing more than a sporadic film across the beer's surface. The color is a blazing cherrywood red.

Smell- Aromas of cherries and vanilla stream into the nose, with a layer of wood beneath it adding some depth. Boozy without being hot.

Taste- The initial sweetness is front and center, exploding with fruit and some woody notes that mask the enormous ABV. For the style, it is much more fruit-forward rather than being primarily malt driven... interesting, but not as complex overall. The final pour brings with it a better suggestion of the malt and hops.

Mouthfeel/Drinkability- The highlight of this tasting is the beautifully smooth, prickly texture that begins and ends with a gentle ebb tide. Full and round, it lends the essential feature that improves the unique character of the flavors.

12-oz bottle into New Belgium globe

A - shallow/quickly-receding khaki head over a somewhat murky body of orange amber; high amount of visible carbonation

S - quite malty; caramel, dark fruit

T - bready malts, caramel sweetness, dark fruit notes (raisins and plums), touch of peat

M - slick full body, high carbonation, some alcohol warmth (less than expected from 10.1% abv)

O - Ol' Red Cease & Desist is a decent brew, but many superior Wee Heavy Ales are available.

A clear, reddish-brown liquid...the head is thin. Overall, the beer is unremarkable in appearance. The aroma is a little malty, with some caramel and toast notes. Full in body...it hides it's ABV. The brew is a little one dimensional and flat. It could be so much more.
