A pretty bland beer... not much body and the finish is lackluster. Has more of a wheat beer character than a cream ale, and the tartness from the cherries / weird fermentation is pretty kickin’. Kind of dry and very tart - not really much else, though. It is refreshing, though... I'll give it that.

12 oz bottle, tulip

A – Amber, a lot of orange especially where the light shines through easily. A decent ¾ inch head that drops down to a couple centimeters, very white. (4.00)

S – Definitely getting some cherry notes, as expected based on the description, but some caramel and sugar as well. Might even say there’s a hint of alcohol. (3.25)

T – Very tart, actually a lot of characteristics of a sour beer. Not as sweet as expected based on the smell, but definitely makes me pucker a little bit. It’s not necessarily like Warheads, but it’s not that far off from Shock Tarts. Amazingly, I’m not saying this actually a bad thing. Because it’s carbonated very well there’s quite a good balance with the sourness and the sugar I am getting. Tartness lingers briefly on the finish. (3.50)

M – Very highly carbonated, effervescent. The sour and sugar are there and then just as quickly gone, with just the mild tart finish. (4.00)

O – Not at all what I expected when I opened the bottle, from the appearance through to the flavor. It definitely has cherry, but much more of a tart, sour version than the sweetness I thought would be there. Don’t know that I could drink these all day, but as a one-off I am pleasantly surprised. (3.75)

Undated bottle at 35 degrees into imperial pint glass
Aroma of rotten cherries which quickly (fortunately) fades into maltiness
Head small (1.5 cm), off white, fizzy, immediately diminishing to partial 2 mm layer
Lacing none
Body medium yellow, chill haze
Flavor pretty weak – just a hint of cherry which quickly vanishes leaving only malt; no hops, no alcohol, no diacetyl.
Palate light to medium, watery, carbonation lively

Appearance 2.75, Aroma 2, Flavor 3, Palate 3.25, Overall 2.75 Final score: 2.76
Another weak offering from Erie Brewing. The initial rotting cherry odor assaulted my nose and nearly made me drop the bottle. Fortunately it quickly dispersed leaving behind only a weak cherry odor. After that, I was surprised that the beer actually didn’t taste completely horrible – what little cherry flavor was present rapidly gave way to a moderate maltiness. The lack of lacing and the short-lived fizzy head were somewhat disappointing. It seems a shame that, considering the proximity of Erie to the cherry and grape growing region of PA, no cherries were harmed making this beer.
