Presque Isle is a fairly serviceable, if rather pedestrian, take on the German pils from way up in Northern PA. No bottled on date on this Pilsener makes me sad.
Good clarity, an attractive bubbly beer with a head that sticks around even after faltering. Fine sharp carbonation, mineral-water body, drinkable. Fairly balanced. No off flavors.
No German hops detected here, fairly American-standard bitterness, not very subtle or complementary. Odd mash tun-esque grainyness, husky. Clumsy, but not bad. Easy to drink, but not very well crafted.
I dunno... this is a pretty good local, American German Pils... I mean if you live in PA or nearby and can get this cheap, I would drink it again. It doesn't really stand out, though. Simply decent, needs tweaking to really be a contender.

Appearance - About as good as most other pilsners. Golden appearance, good carbonation going on. Just enough lacing on the head to remind us that it's a pilsner.
Smell - Just by smelling this beer one can tell it is not your typical pils. Erie obviously like the malts and the aroma of this beer drives it home. Very malty with extremely subtle spice notes. A nice forewarning that this is not your average budweiser or pilsner urquel
Taste - Relatively sweet for a pilsner, but not overwhelming. A whole lot of malty, yeasty sweetness up front then the flavors almost evaporate from your palate. A completely unique attempt at a pilsner. I know many other BA's have shot the beer down due to its lack of hoppiness or dry finish but I honestly find this beer refreshing.
Mouthfeel - The mouthfeel is just as good as any other pilsner. Very light and not hard to gulp down at all.
Overall - The aroma sets you back for a pilsner. I completely understand how some palates can be confused by this effort. However It's nice to have a pilsner that isn't a copy paste of everything else on the market. Extremely flavorful and drinkable, for that reason alone I give it
a good to very good score.
