I have been eating and drinking at Cogans since 2009. The beer and ale selection is pretty decent if you enjoy the East Coast breweries. They always have an O'connor on tap and have a decent selection of the cheaper American macro brews. Best time to sit out on the covered patio is a Saturday afternoon.

After a few beers at The Birch (a must do in the area), we checked this spot out on the recommendation of a local. As Hanzo states in his review below, the lineup isnt particularly amazing, but brews were $2 off when we walked in and we drank Ommegang Rare Vos for $2.50 a pint. Still - being from NC - there were a number of beers I'd not had before. The staff is great, the atmosphere is loud and a lot of fun, and the pizza is damn good. Very laid back fun place with good beer. I highly recommend you give it a shot.

There's nothing technically wrong with Cogan's Pizza, they have delicious pizza and an adequate tap and bottle list. I'd say the main problem is they don't really have anything that stands out, nothing special (at least on my visit). All their beers are very common and can be picked up at Total Wine right around the corner.

I am an admitted ticker but I literally could not find anything good I haven't had before, and for a place where I heard beer was the focal point, this just left me with a meh feeling. Just seems like they were geared for mainstream, which is fine, but it just isn't attractive enough for me to return.

But I am not going to rate this poorly because of this. If I were just your average consumer and not a beer geek I would have been floored by their selection since there are a lot of beers to choose from that encompass many styles. Couldn't really ask for more in a pizza place.

Cogan's is good local spot to get a decent pizza and enjoy a pretty good variety of beers and ales on tap and bottled. During peak times the place is rather lively. Service is good and food typically well prepared. A good recommendation for a bite to eat and a great brew selection.

Cogan's is a funky spot and apparently has quite a bit of history. It used to be a punk-rock joint several years ago. I heard a story about one night when it got some 142 citations for about anything you can think of. These days, it seems a lot more tame. It's got a great beer selection, from local brews to stellar Belgians and Germans. I didn't try the food, but from the smell of the place, I bet the pizza is awesome. The place was packed the night I went - must be for a good reason. It's an interesting combination of more well-to-do folks and hipsters with tattoos all over. If you can fit somewhere in between, I recommend it.

Frequent this place while I'm working in Norfolk, seems to be a popular hang out with my co-workers. Definitely a hipster bar, not saying that is a bad thing, with lots of random art and decor all over the place. Usually has quite a crowd and the enclosed outdoor seating is nice. 33 beers on tap that range from $3 - $6.5 and a wide variety of styles. Happy hour is Mon-Fri from 11am to 7pm and "Pint Night" is on Tuesday until 7pm and all beers $5 and under are half off. The pizza there is very good and haven't had one I don't like.

If you're in the area and don't mind the hipster crowd this place is a nice stop to get some good beer and pizza without breaking the bank.
