500ml bottle pored into a stemmed pint glass.

Very dense but clean dark brown body. A quick pour forms a large and firm light brown head. Retention is somewhat poor but leaves some nice lacing.

Smell is very sweet with strong chocolate notes, yeast, faint hop bitterness, and an unexpected fruity almost banana-like character.

Grassy hops are slightly more present on the palate than they were on the aroma while chocolate notes continue. The clear-cut yet clean and somewhat restrained fruity sweetness that only comes from a Dopple Bock combines with a moderate yeast presence nicely.

Well rounded flavor profile and 'just right' 7.5% abv keep this pretty high on the drinkability scale.

A very nice Dopple Bock. If I ever cross this one again I'll be sure to pick uo another bottle.

Half-litre bottle, poured (twice) into my Westmalle chalice at home on 26 Apr 2013, some three months before its BBD.

Deep, dark, ruby red body: the beige head just wanted to leave before it had settled, a pity.

The aroma was of coffee and dark chocolate infused with red berries and raisins: the taste was a rich blend of those smells. The alcohol is well masked by the flavours within the brew and hints of toffee and caramel can be added to the malty esters of coffee and chocolate already mentioned.

Easy drinking for it's alcohol level: far too easy!

Pours dark brown in a stem glass. Head is beige colored. Dense but not lasting foam. Lacing is not close either. Anyway carbonation is good, well balanced. A banana explosion in your nose... a few later, shy chocolate aroma will grew up.Slightly caramel malt notes too. In mouth, subtle chocolate hints will be found. A very very low sweet bitterness closes the first touch.Alcohol is felt under your tongue while toasted coffee flavors will invade your palate. Nor fat nor grassy sensation either but full bodied beer. The aftertaste is gentle, liquid easily flews leaving chocolate to come back again. At the end kind & dry bitterness wil remain. Very easy & delightful drinkability.

Pours dark brown with ruby hue when held to light overlain by an inch of beige firm head that slowly sets to a fine veil with elevated circum-peripheral ring.

Aroma is nicely split between bread-crust and chocolate qualities with caramelized sugar and well hidden alcohol.

Full bodied rich maltiness with fine carbonation exhibits chocolate flavor, bread crust and restrained grape-like fruitiness from specialty malts. Molassy sweetness gets slightly extenuated towards the finish with a soft kiss of herbal-spicy hops.

In short, a smooth sweet chocolate-bready Doppelbock (500 ml into tulip, BB 09-02-2013).
