Poured into a Paulaner stein. A lovely crystal clear copper colour, the very picture of autumn. Not much head though. Piss-poor wispy white foam about the edges. Kind of a drag.
Stoic, very German nose. Rising bread, a hint of caramel sweetness. Not unappealing.
Taste doesn't knock your socks off, but it sure is nice. Lightly toasted bread, toffee, nuts, subtle floral hops. Feels like it should be sweet, but it isn't, really. Finishes clean, lightly bitter. So refreshing. Subtle and beguiling.
Light with low-medium carbonation. A little more carbonation would really whip the camel's ass. Feels a little chewy. Came in an "Oktoberfest pack" with the aforementioned mug and pint bottles of Lowenbrau, Paulaner and Spaten oktoberfests, all Helles-style Oktoberfests rather than marzen-style. This is miles ahead of the other three, not that any of them were so bad, and a beer I can't get enough of right now. Lovely.
