Hacker-Pschorr was probably my favorite of the many different breweries I had the pleasure of trying out when in Germany so I decided to buy a bottle back here in the states so I could give at least the Helles a proper review.

Crystal clear golden body with a wispy white head rising to just a bit more than one finger thick.

Aroma is notably malty with some sweetness and a bit of a cereal grain aroma. Possibly some grassy hop aromas too but there seem rather faint.

Taste is full of malty sweetness and some toasted biscuity flavors. A light hop flavor adds in some balance too but nothing too bitter or assertive.

Mouthfeel is light, crisp and clean making for a very refreshing lager. Beers like this remind me why I enjoy the various lager styles so much. Simple and straightforward but with a delicious refreshing taste.

A - bright golden color, very light. White foam, 2 fingers, nice carbonation bubbles.

S- the hops overpower the smell, which is not overly strong. Definitely the week point of the beer

T - As a Export beer, a very good taste. Light hops with a hint of vanilla. The beginning is rather sweet and the end has a little bitterness, though not unpleasant.

M-very light and smooth, a slight tingle with a medium-to-light body.

O-A simple beer, but very well made. One of the better exports I've had.

A: The beer is clear golden yellow in color and has a light to moderate amount of visible carbonation. It poured with a finger and a half high bright white head that gradually died down, leaving a large patch of bubbles in the center, a collar around the edge and lacing down the sides of the glass.
S: Light aromas of bready malts and noble hops are present in the nose.
T: The taste is dominated by flavors of bready malts with hints of sweetness. No hops are perceptible.
M: It feels light- to medium-bodied and clean on the palate with a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: This beer has nice malty flavors that taste true to the style but seems like it could use a little more hops to balance things out.

11.2oz bottle poured into a Shaker pint glass. Best before 04/13, L11521c.

Appearance: Slightly hazy gold. Thin white head with an occasional strand or small sheet of persistent lacing.

Smell: Clean malt, not much else.

Taste: Nice simple malt with a clean finish. Some noble hop herbal bitterness at the end. Very typical Helles.

Mouthfeel: Good carbonation, slick. Just a tad sticky on the teeth.

Overall / Drinkability: Very drinkable albeit mild. Like all Helles, finely tuned to be drank in mass quantity with food, but otherwise nothing special. Went well with pizza and salad tonight, but I think I would tire of it by itself it I had it without food. Admittedly, I wonder if this beer would be more notable in flavor if it was before the best by date, but it's not that far gone so hard to say.

This beer is presented beautifully in the old fashioned swing top bottle. It pours with an appetising foamy head that sticks around to the end of the drink and leaves very good lacing. Carbonation is medium. The smell is very pleasant and typically German. It has a herbacious hop aroma with just a hint of mint and is similar to a German pilsener in this respect. The taste is a masterclass in balance and refinement. There is a suggestion of honey and lemon with a slight pilsener style bitterness and satisfying bready malt notes. It feels great in the mouth and slides down very easily. I could happily drink several of these in a row.

The only downside is that it is hard to find and tends to be over 3 British pounds here in the UK. Still that's no more than the pints of bad lager available in our pubs and therefore a good argument for not going out! I would describe this as a great benchmark for the lager style. There are enough subtle complexities here to keep things interesting. This bavarian classic doesn't have the wow factor of some IPAs or stouts or even some of the better craft lagers but it is well balanced and a great beer that simply tastes like a standard lager ought to. Recommended

bottle purchased from Wegman's poured chilled into a pokal

The color is deep golden as the name implies with thick soapy white head with fine bead with very good retention and lasting lace. The smell is very grain oriented with light sweet odor and mild yeast ester with slight floral hop and toasted malt aroma. The feel is very good with mild sweetness and moderate carbonation with a smooth malt profile with light yeast impression and semi-dry finish with low alcohol influence.

The flavor has a nice gentle taste of pilsner malt with a light nutty quality and low bitterness in the taste with generally clean yeast tastte with mild diacetyl in the middle with grain and malt dominant with some mineral accents. Overall this is a quaffable lager with a nice drinkable quality I would buy this again pretty decent example of the style.
