20oz pint, another awesomely unexpected find on tap in Wild Rose Country - Craft Beer Market in Cowtown, specifically.

This beer appears a rather cloudy medium golden amber hue, with one finger of tightly foamy, and somewhat creamy off-white head, which seeps away quietly and slowly, leaving an uneven, low-lying berm of lace around the glass.

It smells of grainy pale and wheat malts, some sweet, fruity booze esters, and mild earthy, leafy hops. The taste is sweet, indistinctly grainy malt, a touch of wet cardboard, that petrol essence so reminiscent of good aged Rieslings, and more soft earthy, weedy hops.

The bubbles are well restrained, and mostly inert throughout, the body a near medium weight, yet a bit watery, and mostly smooth, the uptick in Euro-booziness providing a mild hiccup or two. It finishes quite warm, and somewhat sweet, though not all alcohol-borne - the fruity malt likewise contributes to the sensation.

A decent spring beer, kind of on the light side, helping hoist us out of the lingering winter, with some gentle sturm und drang, from the headwaters nation for the style. Easy drinking, long wooden table sort of quaffing, this one is.

Poured from bottle. Aroma of grass. Hazy golden with white head. Light bitter taste. Medium body, thin texture, average carbonation. Overall not bad, but not really my favorite style.

A cloudy beer with an orange color and a fading head.

Smell is light malty and has some fresh, grainy notes. A whiff of dextrines or breadiness is also around.

Taste is malty and has a little dextrine malt and notes of honey. The yeast adds a pleasant bready and yeasty taste. The hops can be barely tasted. Aftertaste is a bit rough on the tongue.

The two fingers of head that sits on top of its peachy amber body is light and fluffy and recedes rather quickly. The sides of the glass bare no lace. Despite its haziness you can still see that it is well carbonated.

Fresh grassy tips poke out of its zesty orange center. Lemon rind and white pepper make things a bit more interesting. There's a rich, spicy breadiness prominent throughout with a streak of caramel. It's not overly pronounced but its spicy and bready nuances make for a good smelling beer.

The taste is more sweet than I had anticipated. The caramel is sturdier and the breadiness is more rich. A dash of spiciness adds some prickliness but as with the lemon peel, these qualities remain on the edges of its flavor profile. A musty earthiness is the more encompassing impression.

Perhaps it has something to do with it making the long trip from Germany to Halifax, I found this beer very under-carbonated. It explains why I found its sweeter, weightier qualities more prominent. It's light to medium bodied with a bit of slickness. For me, this was its weakest quality.

Again, my own expectations let me down. I was thinking this would be a staple and reference point for the style given its origins and I found it to be a lackluster example in terms of flavor, complexity and feel when comparing to other interpretations of the style I've had in the past. If I ever got the opportunity, I'd be more than willing to try this fresh to see how it compares.

Slightly hazy deep straw colored brew, a white quickly receding head, no lacing, little curtains.

A fruity fresh acidity, some floral notes.

Starting sweet with sugary white bread, lemon and pears, some apple peel tartness.

Medium carbonation, small bubbles, soft and refreshing, a smooth dry finish.

In all a very nice kellerbier.
