S-fruity,cinnamon and cloves

T-sweet and malty start that fades rapidly into spices and banana, some wildberry tartness is also in the mix

M-light body(a bit thin),good carbonation,straight forward and soft

D-no fireworks here, but overall a very enjoyable Dark Wheat

Purchased a bottle at Julio's Liquors in Westborough, MA.

A: Pours with a moussy thick 1 inch + head that dissipates to a nice topping. Dark copper hue. Hazy and opaque.

S: Well balanced between clove and banana aromas. Grainy. Slight metallic aroma - I have no clue where that is coming from.

T: Base is built around grainy sweet malt flavor with caramel hightlights. Clove flavors outweigh the lighter banana and bubblegum flavors.

MF: Medium body. Moderate carbonation. Not particularly fluffy or full.

D,notes: I love a good dunklewizen - this one is pretty good but nothing spectacular. The moutfeel was kind of lacking in this one but this did not really hurt drinkability.

I am sampling this beer out of a 12 oz bottle and into a mason jar. It has a nice dark amber color to it with a nice white 1/2" head on it. The aroma of this beer is very malty with a touch of banana and maybe some clove. Tasting this beer was a joy it has a disticnt malt taste with a touch of sweet candy sugar and some banana flavor as well. This is a very drinkable beer smooth on the palate, but it has a slight bite at the end. The bite doesn't linger though.

This is an exceptionally good dark wheat beer that hits all the right notes. The aroma is strong banana, malts, some peach scents, and root beer. This is a slightly cloudy copper color beer with moderate carbonation and light to medium bodied. The taste is malt, root beer, a nice bready grain, mildly balancing hops, and some caramel dash. There is a bit of a bubble gum taste to this beer as well. There is an underlying sweetness to this beer, but overall it isn't that sweet. And the same goes for the dryness as well. This beer is representative of the style and is an essential seeker out if you want a genuine dark wheat beer. L'Chaim.

A - Pours up amber with red highlights, A thick off white head dissipates slowly.

S - Sweet malts with caramel notes, and raisins in the background.

T - Sweet malt flavors, some caramel in the background. A hint of banana flavor in the finish.

M - Slightly thin, but well carbonated.

D - A very good beer. Two or three would be fairly easy.

Poured from the bottle into a pint glass, beer purchased at the local package store.

A- A deep amber color with a two finger head.

S - Like raisins and irish soda bread, mmm

T- Rich and full, hints of caramel, yeast and safron.

MF -Very nice, sweet but not too sweet.

D- A little above average, only a few of these in the evening.

Was looking for something German, and found this one at my local beer store. Poured into a room temp beer mug.

A - A good one finger head which lasted a few minutes until it dissipated into a thin layer. A cloudy light brown color.

S - Has a slight citrusy smell and a little malt smell.

T - The second time i tried the beer, I noticed flavors that I couldn't taste the first time, along with the citrus I tasted some cherry flavor. I don't know if it had to do with how cold it was or not, or if my taste buds weren't working that day, but I definitely tasted the cherry in it the second time around.

M - Medium to heavy carbonation, has a zing to it.

D - Probably woulnd't drink more than the six pack, spread out over a couple of days.

All in all, just an average wheat beer to me, though I haven't had many wheat beers. It was different in the fact it was my first dark wheat beer. I would recommend it to people to try and see how they like it, but I would probably not buy it again.

Another great dunkel weiss.

A: Nice and dark, murky dark brownish amber and orange light with thick two finger off-white/tan head, no lacing on my wheat glass

S: Fruity, like banana bread, roasted bready malts

T: Strong banana, but not as sweet or full as others in the style. Enjoyable all the same with very nice roasted malt flavors, its almost like fresh fruity bread in a glass.

M: Carbonation is smooth, doesn't get in the way of the taste. Leaves my mouth a little sticky or chalky afterward, and the aftertaste is not as sweet as Weihenstephaners.

D: Very drinkable as an aperitif , but i think I'll need something else to wash down this glass of liquid bread as my mouth is still dry, maybe a sandwich and some Hofbräu.

It looks cloudy and brownish like apple cider. Thick long-lasting tan head. I detect some fruity aromas. Maybe banana. Maybe peach. Perhaps a little malty wheaty essence. It tastes smooth with light carbonation and a semi-sweet fruity flavor. Tastes pretty good. Filling beer. I wouldn't take this beer tailgating for a marathon drinking session. Good beer if you just plan on having one or two with a meal... Such as with eggs and toast for breakfast.

A- Quite cloudy translucent medium brown body that pours with a large white head. Head fades rather quickly to nothing. No lacing left behind in the glass.

S- Mild nose that is heavy on banana. Sour doughy smell in the background.

T- Initial taste is surprisingly tart. Sour yeast upfront with lots of banana and hints of clove. The banana fades for the finish which is a nice combination of tartness and sweetness from the yeast. What lingers is sweet bready yeast and hints of spicy clove.

M- Low carbonation and a nice full-bodied yeastiness to it. Very smooth and creamy.

D- This is a good drinkable beer that I will have again. Nice example of a dunkel weizen. I wish this style was as common as the hefe weizen.

Bottled 3/07. Pours out a murky cloud somewhere between brown and orange. Bright body though with a decent head. Smell is dominated by banana and yeast. Clove and a bready molasses background. Appetizing. A banana sweetness stands out in the taste with a mild hop bitterness riding along underneath. Bready malts are present but a bit more understated than in the smell. A little too sweet for my tastes, although the hops do seem to tug back on the reigns a bit. I expected something thicker, but the carbonation level is perfect and makes for a smooth ride.

A - Very dark mahogany brown color. Head is offwhite and fades to an eight inch, less than I would have liked to see. Minimal lacing.

S - Caramely biscuity malts with some rich yeasty flavor, hints of licorice.

T/M - Starts out with a sharp carbonation bite, medium consistency and a dark grape like malt and yeast flavor. Faintly caramely and bready. Not much else to say about that.

D - Overall an good tasting beer. Flavors are pretty simple but still very solid and traditional.

A-Murky amber-brown with a small, off-white head the diminishes to a stubborn film.
S- Fruity wheat and yeast aromas dominate over a moderate malt sweetness.
T- Moderately malty to add body and balance to the flavors of berry, banana and spice. Very light hop bitterness on the finish.
M- Medium-full body, lightly dry texture, zippy carbonation
D- Maybe slightly heavy for the style (and I like that!). A satisfying, enjoyable beer.

From my notes 6/7/07 - Pours a two-finger off-white head that fades slowly to a thin layer leaving some lace. Cloudy amber color. Yeasty/raisin nose. Light-medium carbonation and medium bodied. Flavor is yeasty and bready, clean finish. €2.90 ($3.97) for a 0.5L glass on-tap from Cafe 7 Numero Heidelberg, Germany.

Poured from a bottle into a weizen glass. The beer pours a deep amber, forming a very thin bubbly head that fades very slowly. Light spots of lace on the glass. The aroma is wonderful!! A strong mix of fruit, wheat, along with a hint of alcohol. The taste is very much the same, beginning with a light malt, and finishing with a full fruity wheat flavor. Very smooth and complex. Nice medium and smooth mouthfeel. Full body and flavor, along with decent abv. makes for one extremely drinkable brew. Overall, In my search for better German beer, this is a big step forward in the exploration of the style. I loved this beer, and will definitely be trying it in the future. Try it!!!

I've never liked the dunkel weizens as much as a good ole hefe, but this is pretty good. Heck, I like it better than Hacker-Pschorr's normal hefe. It tastes of dark bread and light toffee without any edge. Very very smooth with a touch of banana and clove. A heck of a drinker.

Presentation: 12 oz bottle - label actual reads Weisse Dark (but it matches the pictures, so I assume this is the same beer). Produced on date on the label.

Appearance: Dark orangish brown color, with a good sized head. Just a bit cloudy. Head fades mostly, but leaves a bit of lacing.

Smell: Lots of yeasty aroma, banana and just a bit of cloves. Nice malty sweetness undertones.

Taste: Similar to the aroma - nice yeasty flavors, some banana flavors, and a good malt backbone. Carbonation is a bit higher than I would have preferred.

Overall impression: Other than the prickly carbonation, this was a great beer - nice balance of flavors, highly drinkable, should go well with food

12 oz bottle.

Hazy chestnut brown...tight-knit head of foam.
Aroma contains plenty of cloves and various spices, as well as an assortment of toasted malts.
The flavor rounds out much the same, with a more roasted aspect to the rich malt.
Well carbonated and finishes smooth. Certainly a beer I could drink more often.

12oz bottle into weizen glass.

Dark burnt orange color with an off white thick head that slowly settles to a thin cap.

A sweet mix of wheat malt, brown sugar, and clove.

Twangy malts mix with a little bit of caramel. A light bitterness is also present. Medium bodied with good carbonation, and a tingly feel. The finish is lingering grain and clove.

I feel I have had better dunkel weizens that were a little smoother. Worth a try.

1 pint 9 oz brown bottle

Appearance: Brown with a firm full light beige head that holds well.

Smell: Aroma is of fruit, cloves and bananas galore.

Taste/Mouthfeel: Taste same as smell, with also caramel type malts and yeast. Mouthfeel is smooth and creamy with good carbonation. It finishes smooth, sweet and with a hint of alcohol.

Drinkability: This is my first German Dark Weisse and I love Hacker Pschorr . Very drinkable, especially in the warmer months. I am sold on this style and brand!

Deep coppery orange, with just a little yellow at the edges, thin off white head that lasted well as a cap. Aroma is full of banana and some spicy clove, some chocolatey, bready yeast. Quite a bit of banana in the taste too, banana bread like. More lemony zest shows up as it warms too. Mouthfeel might have been a bit lighter than some dunkels, easy to drink.

Verdict: this beer is very true to style, a fine dunkel weizen. No flavors are too extreme, wouldn't call it the best I have tried of the style, but it's pretty good, and very sessionable.

Bottled on 08.06 -- Poured into HP Weizen glass.

I have to say that usually a beer is better on-tap. But, in this case, the beer is just as good, if not better in the bottle. Nice mix of banana-clove and caramel with other candyish malts. Nice malt/yeast balance. Delicious and easily drinkable. See my review of it on-tap (two reviews down).

another solid offering from hacker. I do prefer the weiss but the dunkel weiss is still good. Pours an amber/orange hue with a huge head with below average retention for its size.... Lots of banana ... lemon ....and is that....it is ... a little caramel hint....unusual for the style... some other florals( a lil clove). PROMINENT wheat...the hops come late....mouthfeel is excellent...grassier than the reg weiss...and not as high on the drinkability...but this still knocks the socks off of most of our domestic imitations...recommended. While some prefer the reg weiss...stating that this has more taste...I disagree...because this is far less consistant for the style...I expected a little more flavor from a dark wheat.

A: A nice head dies quickly and leaves only a fair amount of lacing. In the middle the beer is a brown solid, but on the edges it goes from light brown to orange.

S: The smell is slightly clean. I pick up on some big citrus aromas; lemon. There is a little bit of chocolate on the end of a big sniff.

T: The taste really reminds me of a pale wheat. There is a wide array of fruits; citrus mostly, with orange, lemon, and banana. It sets itself apart as a Dunkel Weizen by surpressing the usual spongey sour taste of a Pale Wheat. It does that with a cocoa taste at the beginning and end. The hops could be more defined.

M: This beer is still quite carbonated after letting it sit for a while. I burped a lot.

D: The springy taste of a pale wheats is still there in addition to the carbonation, so the drinkability is lowered.
