Best before date of 11/13

Appearance - Pours a crystal clear, bright golden hue with a white, frothy 2 finger head. Great retention, leaving a thin layer of bubbles across the surface. Lacing is small and spotty with fair stick.

Smell - Strong aroma of honey and touches of lemon. Slight floral notes. Faint grain.

Taste - After such a tantilizing smell, the flavor is mostly underwhelming. Clean grain, backed by notes of honey and a trace of mild lemon. Touches on grassy bitterness before a somewhat watery finish.

Mouthfeel - Light in body with a crisp, lively bite. Again, the finish is on the watery side.

Overall - It starts off promising enough, but trails off quickly in the finish. It's a good Helles, but just not enough for me to consider it great, much less one of the top examples of the style.

This one's a year past the bb date.

Pours a brilliant light golden with a modest ivory head that dissipates fairly quickly.

Grain and toasted bread dominate the aroma. There's an earthy hop character, along with a lightly metallic note.

Flavor reveals a huge toasted malt backbone, which has a nice richness throughout, finishing a touch yeasty. There's a bit of oxidation, but I'll ignore that. Hop character is minimal, though the bitterness is appropriate.

Body is moderate, with carbonation a touch low.

Good malt character, which is most important for the style. Nicely balanced.

A: Pours a...well, golden color. Moderate to vigorous carbonation. Two fingers bleached head. Slight haze. Good retention, good lacing.

S: Crackery malt, akin to saltine. Some sulphur like compounds, bit of lemon. Floral and grassy.

T: Subdued hop presence. Tastes old...looking for an expiration....best by 11/13. Damn. Given how far breweries stretch the shelf life, this beer could be a year old. No off flavors, but definitely faded. Still, hoppiness does come through a bit. Straw, bit of sweet grains. Hops are floral and slightly herbal.

M: Very smooth. Carbonation is subtle for the style and this one goes back easily.

O: Probably damn good fresh. Will have to try it again at some point.
