Served in a bottle at Mulligan's in Hoboken, NJ

A: Pours a crystal clear golden straw yellow in color with moderate amounts of visible carbonation. The beer has a finger tall white head with large bubbles that reduces to thick ring at the edges of the glass. Moderate lacing is observed.

S: The overall aroma of the beer is quite mild but the things that stand out for me are corn adjunct malts, some bready malts, and some sweetness. Additionally there are some grassy hops.

T: The flavor really follows the smell for this beer with the primary flavor being slightly sweet bready malts and some corn adjunct malts. There is also a light amount of bitterness of the grassy hops.

M: On the lighter side of medium bodied with moderate amounts of carbonation.

O: This beer is easy to drink, refreshing, and quite sessionable.

Hacker-Pschorr Munich Gold
Style: Munich Helles Lager
ABV: 5.50 %

LOOK: Clear golden brew with a white foam and some lace. Mostly clear with some chill haze from the yeast proteins. Looks like a standard helles lager.

SMELL: Clean, bready, biscuity aroma with some herbal hop tinges.

TASTE: Straight forward clean lager with sweet and creamy malty notes, biscuit and buttery bread flavors, and a small tea like, herbal hop bitterness. Easy drinking German lager beer with an even balance and pleasant character.

FEEL: Light bodied, crisp, well carbonated, fairly smooth.

OVERALL: An authentic helles lager from a respected German brewery. Agreeable flavor and light feel, perfect for drinking alone or pairing with a wide array of foods.

Clear, relatively saturated gold color (i.e., a bit darker than expected).

S & T: no flaws per se, but a rather meek and uninteresting mix of light malt and earthy hops.

M: crisp, with medium+ carbonation; light body.

O: marginally better than mediocre Bavarian Helles.

(review largely confirmed with tasting in August 2013)

Poured from bottle into pint glass

Appearance – Pours a straw-golden color with a huge pure white head. The head has enormous bubbles trapped within and fades over time to give a fair amount of lacing.

Smell – The aroma is light overall, but heaviest in bread and an ever so light sugar sweetness.

Taste – A sweeter breadiness meets the tongue at first. It taste of some malt and caramel. These sweeter flavors fade as the taste advances giving way to a more of the bready and more biscuity flavor toward the end. It starts sweeter and finishes drier. While it does finish drier, I would overall still consider it a little bit on the sweeter side.

Mouthfeel – Slightly liger body with a medium level of carbonation. Very lager average.

Overall – Not a bad beer. Very easy to drink with some sweet and some more crisp characteristics. A good session brew.

This one's a year past the bb date.

Pours a brilliant light golden with a modest ivory head that dissipates fairly quickly.

Grain and toasted bread dominate the aroma. There's an earthy hop character, along with a lightly metallic note.

Flavor reveals a huge toasted malt backbone, which has a nice richness throughout, finishing a touch yeasty. There's a bit of oxidation, but I'll ignore that. Hop character is minimal, though the bitterness is appropriate.

Body is moderate, with carbonation a touch low.

Good malt character, which is most important for the style. Nicely balanced.

Great looking beer. Finger of foamy head on a clear, golden colored body.
The aroma is milled barley with a little floral note. Nice and simple.
The taste is moderately bitter with a dry bitter at the end.
The texture is crisp with moderate carbonation.
It's a simple and good beer.
