500 mL swing-top bottle picked up at TBS; bottled July 25 2013. I've only had a handful of beers from this brewery, but all of them have been solid to superb - so when I spotted this offering, from a style I have very little experience with, it immediately and mysteriously made its way into my hands. Served slightly chilled.

Pours a foggy golden-peach colour, topped with one finger of dense, creamy white head that slowly seeps away. A generous curtain of lacing clings to the glass, with a modest cap and collar left at the surface after a few minutes' time. Looks great, but the aroma is merely adequate, with notes of citrus zest, bready malts and floral hops - a simple, fresh bouquet that entices you into a sip, if nothing else.

The flavour is similarly straightforward - lemony citrus zest, with a solid backbone of bready pale malt sweetness. There is also a light, floral dryness toward the finish, accompanied by a faint peppery spice and yeasty fruitiness. It grew on me as I made my way through the bottle, improving with warmth somewhat. I also really like the mouthfeel; it is on the lighter end of medium-bodied, but it almost has the silky-smooth texture of a hefe, with light, prickly carbonation that helps support this image. This is a ridiculously drinkable lager and I really can't say much more than that.

Final Grade: 4.15, a solid A-. Hacker-Pschorr Anno 1417 is the first authentic German-made kellerbier I've ever had the opportunity to try, but it is also now my favourite. This stuff isn't available in my home town (this bottle is from a London shop), but if they ever bother bringing it in locally I will be a regular consumer of it. All lager fans should consider this one a must try, as it combines the easy-drinking, clean nature of a good imported lager with the smooth body and yeasty undertones of a quality German wheat beer. Great stuff, and absolutely worth a try if you spot it.

Appearance: Peach colored; cloudy; small head

Aroma: Muted citrus; soda smell

Taste: Nothing really jumps out as a flavor; smooth mouthfeel with some carbonation; slightly peppery

Remarks: This would make a good hot-weather session beer; not complex, but smooth and refreshing

Did not score A, T, S, M at that time; disregard those scores
