Notes/Commercial Description:

Poured from the bottle into a pils style glass. Bottled Aug 8th 2014, good till Dec 8th 2014.

Deep brass gold, with wonderful thin streams of slow rising carbonation. Head is a three finger fluffy and bleach white with a thick fluffy cap of about a finger. Light lacing in rings on the glass, as it is consumed. Real nice with a fantastic look.

Great fantastic nose. Hints of deep bread and chewy like malt, with a wine like spritzy quality of lemon and herbs. Dense and nice light hop aromatics, even almost floral. Fantastic smelling.

Palate just sings wonderfully. As wonderful as a malt density hits, with a light carbonation and aromatic herbality. Hints toward light green herbs with a big bakery density sweetness. Light bodied feel but with a huge controlled honey coating.

Lip smacking good, and a perfect example of the style. Hits the bakery notes with a light control and feel, and a great interesting but muted and noticeable hop quality. Excellent beer, I could drink a lot of this.

Definitely my favourite Kolsch- an opinion shared by my aussie brother in law who had spent 10 years living in Koln.

I've had both on tap at their brew house in Koln city centre, and on bottle. Scores based on tap.

So:

Served in 200ml cylindrical glasses straight from the barrel. Pleasingly sparkling and clear with about 2cm of head when the glass is plonked down in front of you.

Best thing about it is the freshness- in nose and in mouth.

it is currently the basis of my beer fridge as well- brought a crate of the (brown glass) 500ml bottles back from our last visit (24 bottles for €18!) and am slowly working my way through them.
For the bottles, i'd probably mark down the smell just by one mark- naturally, not as fresh from the bottle and the beer loses it's extra special quality just a litte bit.

On-tap at the brewery itself. On to the beer:

A thick creamy head tops this golden colored beer, and adding to the experience is a head which retains very well. The nose is soft and appealing, bringing the smell of milled malt and a drop of honey.

Something about the taste is beautiful. Perhaps it helps that I had been drinking a lot of different kolsch during my short stay in Cologne, because this one stands out. It's clean and crisp throughout, and birngs subtle honey, floral, and grape flavors. The bitterness brought to the table is clean, adding the final touch to this beauty.

A very fine kolsch that is very easy to drink. I helped myself to several glasses and had forgotten that the brewery also served two other beers.
