Got this at Bert's Bierhuis in Utrecht.
From a bottle into a weizen glass.
APPEARANCE: Pours a huge 4 finger thin bubbly popping white head that quickly pops its way down to a decent foam cap. Colour is a cloudy orange peel orange with lots of carbonation evident. Foam cap disappears totally and leaves no lacing down the glass.
SMELL: Decent strength nose of wheat malt up front with some hints of banana and lemon. A slight spicy element as well, but not quite the normal clove standard one expects from the style. A decent nose.
TASTE: Not as impressive as the nose, unfortunately. Some wheat malt initially with touches of clove, banana and lemon, but a little weak on all three of them. A long lasting sweet malt aftertaste is strong and perhaps a bit too sweet at the finish.
PALATE: Thick heavy body with lower end carbonation, much lower than expected given the appearance. Feel is slightly watery and lifeless. Goes down smooth and finishes slightly mouth coating on the palate. Needs a bit more life.
OVERALL: A decent attempt at the style, but not good enough to be memorable unfortunately. On the other hand, not bad enough to be memorable either. Finishable, but not enjoyable enough to make it worth seeking out. I'd pass.
