Our group thought this was not bad for a blueberry ale, and in fact some thought it was the best they'd had. Its main advantage is a drier taste than the sweet nose suggests. But it's also not bursting with flavor. Worth noting that our fruit-beer sympathizers, especially the women, predictably liked this more than the stout-heads.

Picked up a growler of this when I checked out the brewery about a month ago. The visit did not leave me with a good taste in my mouth; they were charging some big bucks ($3) just for a TASTING!!!

A: Pours a light amber body with bluish notes. Kind of looked like the inside of a blueberry. A small, white head with some good lacing along the top of the beer and along the sides of the glass.

S: Smelled like sweet blueberries. Reminded me a lot of blueberry Eggo waffles.

T: First taste what that of some bitter blueberries, but afterwards it smoothed out and became a little sweeter. Definitely a strong blueberry aftertaste as well.

M: Mouthfeel was a little watery and thin. Could have been carbonated a little bit more.

D: Definitely a drinkable beer. Tastes pretty good, but the mouthfeel could have used a little work. Excellent example of a fruit beer ad I felt, out of the growler from the brewery, it may have been a little young, but it was excellent and I could not drink it fast enough!

Light red amberish color with a lot of bubbles, smell is very fruity and blueberry-ish, luckily given that it's a blueberry ale.

Taste is excellent, very full fruity flavor but it's not overwhelming or grossly disgusting like some other fruit beers. Nice light character and actually refreshing.

The best fruit beer I've had thus far, I haven't had that many and it's still not a favorite style but kudos to Blue Point for a good and unique ale.

The beer pours an amber color with a 1/2" white head that slowly fades to lacing. The aroma is good. It has a nice pale malt and blueberry aroma. It's light and loaded with a natural blueberry scent, not an artificial extract. The taste is good as well. This is one of the better blueberry beers on the market. It's got a decent malt taste, but the flavor is mainly blueberries. It goes down easy and refreshes in the finish. The mouthfeel is fine. It is a medium bodied beer with adequate carbonation. This is a very easy drinking beer. I love the fruit flavor in this one. It's got good malt flavor as opposed to those wanna be beers that are all pilsner malt and fruit extract.

This beer wasn't half bad. I was lucky enough to get ahold of some on a recent trip to Long Island (I heard there was a brewery there and I couldn't help but go on a beer hunt). When I opened the growler I thought someone just pulled out a pan of blueberry muffins. It pours an orange-copper color with not much head and no lacing. Tastes like a pop-tart (in a good way). Very easy going down. My girlfriend's mom actually brought me back a sixer from a recent trip she made, and needless to say I was grateful.

Granted, there are far better beers out there, but this one was pretty enjoyable.

Pours a very pretty reddish and golden amber color, with excellent clarity and very little head. The nose is simple and straightforward blueberry, with a definite sweet underpinning. On the palate, smooth Vienna malts make the base, showing off some buttery notes, but the main flavor is blueberry that lasts from the mid-palate to the finish. The finish is surprisingly dry considering the fruitiness on display here. Mouthfeel is fairly brisk and acidic, with little in the way of maltiness. Overall, a decent fruit beer, but both too simple and not lazily smooth enough to really hold my interest.

This is my first review.

I have had this beer at the brewery, in a bottle and out of kegs at several bars throughout New York. The first time I had it was out of a keg and I have had that recently so I will review it that way. The first thing that hits me is the smell. There is a nice blueberry scent that is not overpowering. The color of the beer in the glass is also a nice amber. The flavor of the beer is of a medium to light body ale with a nice bit of blueberry. This is a good beer to enjoy in the summer or on other warm nights. It is very drinkable.

Poured from a 12 oz bottle to a pint glass, the liquid is arusty copper with a berry hue and ok carbonation. The head is small white and leaves very little lace.

The smell is sweet blueberries like a blueberry syrup.

The taste follows, lots of sweet blueberry with some hops as a grasp for balance. Not bad as this is what I would expect.

The mouthfeel is light and fizzy. Less then medium body.

The drinkability is ok for what it is, but not something I would reach for. MK

Best before March '08:

Pours reddish orange/amber (no - not blue) with a thin head that immediately becomes a vanishing patch.

The smell is typical fruit extract - blueberry, obviously in this case. Would score it lower, as it lacks anything else, but - based on style - typical.

There we go - the taste follows the nose - blueberry syrup/extract. What I can say in its favor is that the blueberry is upfront with a bready character and barley malt (rather than the oft-present wheat)... To its credit as well - there is some tart balancing out the sweetness.

Rather fizzy in a light body (despite lack of noticeable carbonation) - but...not out of style.

In the end - after one I had a long-lingering aftertaste of having eaten (several) Blueberry Pop-Tarts.

This arrived with a bone-white head with very low retention. The nose was VERY blueberry, evocative of a blueberry field in the summer. The color was a deep amber with NE-quality clarity. The mouthfeel was light but effervescent with a refreshing blueberry burst on the palate. The finish had an interesting dryness which made it a good summertime drink.

This was the first blueberry ale I've ever tried, and although I don't have any to compare it to, overall, I was pretty impressed with the unique taste and smell which really excited me and piqued my interest about this type of brew... Sweet, profound blueberry taste predominates the palate, and the bottle proclaims it is made with real blueberries, which was encouraging... Definitely worth a try because of its different, unique flavor, would certainly try this again, just because it's so tasty...

This poured a nice amber with a slight head that lingered for some time, smell was of fresh blueberries, quite nice. Flavor also is of fresh blueberries, Not overbearing, very subtle but present. Finishes clean and refreshing, a very drinkable beer this is.

Had on draft at the Frisco Grille, Columbia, MD.

Pours with a small head which recedes to the side of the glass. Mild lacing.

Aroma is a slight maltiness behind a nice, fresh blueberry smell. Mild caramel maltiness upfront followed by a mild fresh blueberry taste and slight bitterness. A bit of hops shows up just before the finish, and it finishes with a bit of lingering blueberry.

It tastes fairly bland with a faint blueberry finish.

Medium body,medium carbonation.

A drinkable brew, but not especially inviting.

The appearance is a clear, dark cherry red. Thick ice cream float head. (Also looks light orange in different lighting.) Looks light and clear and shiny and fruity. Some light lace.

The smell is alike a golden ale or pils, but with a top level of sweet blueberry accents. Deep inhale intensifies berries. Still smells like beer, though.

Tastes like a light ale, but fruit takes the place of the hops in this case. Well-balanced. Dry malt and blueberries balance perfectly. The wheat flavors come out and make it a very pleasant offering.

It feels thicker than the clarity would suggest. Not at all watery. May be too thick to drink it sitting by the pool, but it's also creamy. Surprisingly dry. It's got a wonderful balance between the sweet and the dry/bitter. Not too much of either. It's a refreshing drink that still has some body.

Poured a clear amber color with massive white puffy head.
Smell has a light note of blueberry.
Taste also shows a nice blueberry note without being overdone. A nice balancing tartness compliments the blueberry nicely.
Finish is somewhat thin, with little taste retention.
Went done very well on a hot summer afternoon.

12oz. bottle

Pours an amber color with a blue tint. A small head recedes to the side of the glass. Mild lacing.

Aroma is a slight maltiness behind a nice, fresh blueberry smell. It really smells like a cereal - BooBerry in particluar (if memory serves how that cereal smells).

Doesn't taste as much like a cereal as it smells, but it does taste rather good. Mild caramel maltiness upfront followed by a mild fresh blueberry taste and slight bitterness. A bit of hops shows up just before the finish, and it finishes with a bit of lingering blueberry.

Medium body,medium carbonation.

Overall, I am impressed with this beer. Fruit beers frequently smell better than they taste, and this one is a closer match than most. Not quite a session beer, but could definitely be enjoyed on a regular basis.

Appears a ruby amber tone with a large bubbled thick pink tinted cream head leaves sporadic strands of lacing all around my pint.

Aroma light tart blueberry tones with a touch of metallic character and light toasted malt sweetness with minimal earthy, herbal hops going on it doesn't seem overly sweet just a natural air of fruitiness going on.

Flavor, a biscuit maltiness with light herbal hop bitterness and a coat of blueberry tartness really affecting the sides of the palate finishes pretty clean with some lasting blueberry aftermath but nothing too cloying or sugary here pretty well made.

Mouthfeel light creamy carbonation body is a bit airy almost like a nitro draft sensation going on, the only negative is the trace of the blueberry flavor that really coats the palate after each sip.

Drinkability flows pretty well definitely a step above most other attempts at fruit beers but I don't think this blueberry has as many antioxidants as the fruit does, but a solid summer sipper definitely refreshing and not too one dimensional.

Had this by accident as there was one in the sixer of Hoptical Illusion

A-Light blondish brown in colour with a massive head that nearly overflowed my imperial pipnt glass. Decent lacing.

S-Oranges and blueberries, some citric hoppiness as well.

T-The blueberry/orange flavour is definitely there. The hops taste similar to the Hoptical Illusion. The sweetness becomes a bit overwhelming for me as it is not balanced by the hops. however they are probably trying to gear this towards people who like that sort of thing.

M-Lightish body with a mild carbonation

D-This isn't a bad beer but it isnt up my alley. The blueberry taste is decent here, but it is not what I want out of a beer. Especially when i poured it and was expecting an IPA.

On-tap at Tuck’s Pub in Cumberland, RI on 6/9/07, served in a US tumbler pint glass.

A: The beer is a light amber color with a short white head that fades quickly and leaves a thick lace on the glass.

S: The aroma is of sweet blueberries, caramelized malt and a faint touch of hops.

T: The taste isn’t quite as sweet as the most blueberry beers, which I think is a good thing. It starts out malty with a little smokiness, and then the fruity blueberry flavor kicks in, flowed by a mild hops presence. The after-taste is sweet.

M: Smooth and crisp, medium body, medium carbonation, slightly sticky finish.

D: Tasty if you like fruit beers, goes down easily, not too filling, I don’t normally go for this type of beer but it’s one of the better fruit beers that I’ve had.

Picked this up recently, since Blue Point's offerings can now be found in my beloved Garden State. I had this on tap at a few beer festivals that I attended in New York, and I was excited when became available locally. After downing this at home and having more time to think about what I was enjoying, I'm certainly glad that I can find this closeby, and have a whole serving to enjoy!

This had a very unique pour to it - the head wasn't much to write home about, but I loved the carbonation that this had and the glowing reddish-orange hue, with an undertone of blue, was quite the sight to behold. Additionally, the scent of blueberry could be detected as soon as I opened the bottle up. Usually, I smell the underside of the cap, but that wasn't really necessary this time around. Anyways, the taste was very basic and up-front, but this was solid all the way through. The flavor holds it's own and it mixes with the maltiness of the ale quite nicely. There's no strong bitterness, watered-down backside, or complexities here to complicate things. It tastes great, finishes clean, and is perfect for the warmer weather that predominates, more often than not, this time of the year.

The 4.60% ABV can hardly be felt here, and it should be pretty apparent that this would make a fine session brew. Sure, there isn't any lacing and not much more to discover as I swish it around my mouth, but no matter - it's nice to have a beer that's a minimalistic work of art, and even better that it's now available so close to home.

A - a brilliant bluish red color with minimal head and lacing

S - Pleasant and noticeable blueberry aromas the play a prominent role in the nose

M - Crisp, sparkling, sweet and light bodied

T - Pleasant blueberry flavor, not overpowering or cloying blueberry syrup like at all. I expected more blueberry taste, but the subtlety is actually a strength. It plays a nice side to the ale that it accompanies. Refreshing in all respects, but not spectacular either.

D - Very mellow, light dryness and not too sweet. Possibly a good fruit supplemented lawnmower beer. I enjoyed the light, refreshing traits that keep it in the session type fruit beer range.

This is a fruit beer that has flavors pretty close to the actual fruit. The blueberry is a little watery, like it should be, but it's still a nice taste. The malt is in the background and comes through nicely at times. At other times, however, there's an unpleasant bitterness (and I generally like bitterness). Still, the best blueberry beer I've had.

Blue Point Blueberry Ale
Bottle into glass:

This beer pours reddish brown color crystal clear, white foam that dissipated quickly. The small is an alternating mixing small of malt and Blueberries. The taste is light malt with hint of blueberries, the after taste is a sweet blueberries. The sweetness seamed to be delayed, very nice. The mouth feel is water but very refreshing, it is also very sharp and bubbly on the tong but not in a bad way.

Sampled from a 64 oz growler...

Appearance: Puffy white head on a light amber body. Okay but nothing too special.

Smell: Big blueberry aroma that can be detected anywhere in the vicinity of the glass. A little flimsy though. If you stick your nose way down deep into the glass you can start to make out some hints of grain, but thats about it.

Taste: Definitely delivers on the blueberry promise but, like the smell, is a little flimsy. More character is present other than the berries, but this is not always a good thing as the aftertaste is slightly metallic. Overall though it is a pleasing taste that keeps me sipping.

Mouthfeel: Crisp yet substantial. Very nice and maybe the best overall quality of the beer.

Drinkability: I might just finish the growler in one night. I don't usually find fruit beers to be this quaffable, but Blue Point will make a believer of me yet.

Beef Notes: I luckily caught a fresh batch of this very nice fruit beer and enjoyed every sip of it. A great beer to usher in the spring season but I would imagine it's also an excellent summer brew. Hopefully, I can get another growler before the temperature rises.

Poured a pale copper color with a small foamy white head that dissipated to a small cap. There was nice lacing on the side of the glass as I drank the beer. The smell is of blueberry muffings, almost too sweet. The taste started off buttery but as I drank it, it tasted more toasted, with a hint of blueberries in the end. The blueberry taste is not nearly as strong as the smell, which is good. There is a bit of a funk taste in this bottle as it may be old. It is well carbonated and crisp, finishes easy. Even though I suspect this may be from an old bottle, the beer is still quite drinkable.
