Although I enjoyed this one, its not quite my style of IPA. It has a strong taste of pine and citrus like most other IPAs. However, it has a sweet note that seems a little unbalanced when combined with how piney this beer is. Its strong and crisp! I love the name and the graphics on the bottle also! (300 characters)

12 oz bottle poured into pint glass

A- Coppery orange with nice off white head and lots of lacing
S- Aroma on this one is great. Sweet hops characteristics like floral and citrus flesh notes
T- Nice spicey hops up front moving to a sweet citrus taste and heading back to a piney/slightly shart/spicey hops note
M- Classic IPA... not too thick, not too thin

O- Solid IPA. Aroma is amazing and taste does a pretty decent job of backing it up (441 characters)

A: 1/2 a finger of head cover a amber beer. The head has nice tight bubbles. Fantastic lacing. Completely coats the glass.

S: Very slight sweet smell. Some floral scent. The nose is weak overall.

T: Sweet balances out the bitter. The bitter is totally subdued. There is a slight hint of a skunked taste. I can't decode the born on date. It is possible that the hops have faded - but I like the swet and not bitter profile.

M: Nice level of carbonation. Nice body.

O: I like this - it is a departure from the hop bombs that everyone is producing. There is a nice balance that allows the malts to showcase teh sweetness. (622 characters)

12oz. Brown Bottle. Into Pint Glass.

A: Pours clear dark golden color. Thin white head turns to nothing within a few minutes. not much lacing to be seen.

S: Malts. Sugar. Light hops. Some caramel and fruits. Nothing special but not bad.

T/M: Sweet malts and bitter hops are balanced well. hops are piney but on the weaker less noticeable side. The malts are chewy with fruity notes. Medium bodied. Aftertaste is bittersweet. Also has an overall sugary taste.

O: Good IPA. Not enough of a hop presence. Malts taste good. Sugary. The beer has a good balance even though the ingredients are not too strong. There are much better IPA's around, but this one is still worth a look.

Cheers!! (691 characters)

Bottle purchased as part of a Wegmans mix-six pack.

Pours a hazy golden copper color, with a half inch head, and a little bit of lacing down the glass.

Smells like pine, sweet caramel malt, and a little bit of booze.

I don't know if it's age or just how they made it, but this is a pretty malty IPA. That's not horrible, though, because the hop flavor is pretty nice nonetheless- grassy, piney, and a little bit grapefruity. The malt flavor brings to mind caramel glazed toasted bread.

Medium bodied, lingering, but pleasant bitterness, medium carbonation. Slightly creamy mouthfeel.

All in all, not too bad. Nothing crazy good, more of an old-fashioned IPA, but still tasty. (680 characters)

Why do I think a slightly hoppy Bud Light. Better than Coors but not by much. Very disappointed. I really would have been better off with a Bud Light or Coors and saved about five bucks! I would not recommend this beer at all. It's the first High Point I've tried and probably the last. (286 characters)

A: Pale amber in color; slightly cloudy in glass; minimal head; left heavy lacing on glass
S: Faint citrus hoppiness; slight grassy notes; not pleasant
T: Nothing to distinguish this ale; a bit of a hop bite at first followed by an unpleasant aftertaste - almost astringent
M: Fairly watery mouthfeel
O: Generally disappointing - was hoping for better; nothing distinguishing about this beer (392 characters)

No hop no head no color... No bueno. If they had spent half the time they did on the label brewing... maybe this would taste better than over priced Coor's Light. I am disappointed because their toasted lager is one of my favorites. Maybe I was just expecting too much or this is an enter level IPA if there is asuch a thing. (325 characters)

A: white foamy head, clear yellow orange body, very light

S: very light hint of citrus, not much else

T: Not tasty at all, seems somewhat of a small jump up from beers like Budweiser. Does not have complexity, nor balance, and has somewhat of an astringent taste. Doesn't leave a flavorful aftertaste.

M: Very light, watery.

O: Not a good beer, hard to get down. I definitely wish I chose differently.

A-Pours a copper color with a well formed head. Slithery lacing. Pretty clear in body.

S-Balanced and pretty standard. Caramel maltiness and a modest pine and citrus hop combo.

T-Quite the same as the nose. Balanced. Caramel malt and a light, wet breadiness. Hops are again the standard pine and grapefruit tag team. It's boring but it's also tried and true. A standard IPA flavor can still be a tasty flavor and happens to be timeless.

M-Medium bodied. Medium bitterness. Bubbly, fizzy carbonation. Drinks well.

O/D-A normal IPA. Normal IPAs are still pretty awesome. A great IPA kick start beer. Wouldn't buy a six pack if many of my consistent local options were available but wouldn't mind a pint on tap from a weak draft list. (736 characters)

12oz bottle poured into a tulip glass. No date on the bottle

A: Clear orange gold body, with a white head. Head went away quickly, and left minimal lacing.

S: I can smell citrus hops as well as some bread flavors and malt. Not a very strong nose.

T: Decent taste, hops are a bit weak, but that alright with me. Malt is present, and there is just the right amount of bitterness.

M: Really pleasant mouthfeel, not super bitter, leaves a juicy feeling on the back teeth. The carbonation is decent for the style.

O: Its a decent single IPA, I would recommend it, as well as drink it again. (593 characters)

Appearance is a light cloudy copper with a thin film of head. The nose is weak for an IPA. The flavor profile begins with a blast of oranges upfront followed by light malt flavor and a dry hop finish that gets more bitter as one drinks this offering down.

This offering started off below average and picked up a bit by the finish. However, in the end this is just a poor man's Two-Hearted and I am not a big fan of Two-Hearted. (428 characters)

Interesting name, not sure what they are trying to say, but let's give it a whirl. Popping the top on this brew yields a complex aroma of butterscotch, brown bread and molasses. Pours into a SAPP to a pale orange bronze with a thin head that holds and clings as it slowly recedes. On the taste this brew starts up front with a strong citrus hopping somewhat grapefruity and orange zest blend with some butterscotch. After the initial hop flavor the sweetness of the malt appears for a moment then is masked by a charred bitterness that grows in intensity and clings to the palate. What this brew lacks in malt and mouthfeel is made up in a very complex and constantly transitioning hop flavor variety. Unusually chalky dry finish for an IPA. Something out of the ordinary, I find it tasty. (789 characters)

Blue Point Brewing
Hoptical Illusion

Pours a clear light copper, with a tightly beaded foam head.

Smells of citrus, sweet herb and caramel. A signature American IPA aroma with a strong hop scent and the caramel malt.

In the taste, caramel, citrus and other earthy notes. Pine, grapefruit pith, tangerine and clementine orange compete for dominance with caramel and the solid bitterness.

Medium bodied ale with a good level of carbonation and mild drying hoppiness. Flavors of citrus and pine linger in a nice hoppy finish.

This is what an American IPA was before the west coast explosion. A strong pale ale, with the usual trademarks of the style, citrus hops and caramel. (679 characters)

Served on tap in a pint glass

Appearance – The beer is served an orange amber color with a one finger of pure white foamy head. The head fades slowly over time leaving a great level of foamy lace on the sides of the glass.

Smell – The aroma is heaviest of a citrus smell. The citrus is a mix of grapefruit hop and some tangerine and orange. Along with these smells are some lighter notes of tropical fruits with some mango and pineapple as well as a bit of pine hop. Overall the aroma is sweet and nicely hopped.

Taste – The taste begins with a grapefruit hop flavor and some sweeter flavors of a tangerine nature. Along with these, are some bready flavors, with the three flavors (bready, tangerine, and grapefruit) creating a base for the beer. Soon after the initial taste other flavors of a light pine and a bit of caramel sweetness comes to the tongue. The tangerine in the base then starts growing more intense with it really sweetening the beer at the end. With more grapefruit hop coming to the tongue at the end of the taste as well, a rather sweet and citrusy hopped taste is left to linger on the tongue.

Mouthfeel – The body of the beer is on the average side in terms of its thickness and creaminess with a carbonation level that is on the average side. Both are rather nice for the blend of sweet and hoppy and make a rather enjoyable drinking brew overall.

Overall – A very tasty, sweeter, and citrusy IPA. Not a hop super-powerhouse, but very easy drinking, and more balanced then many. Quite nice. (1,530 characters)

Serving Type - Bottle

Appearance - Golden straw yellow with a 1/2 inch foamy head. Some nice lacing.

Smell - Pineapple, orange, grapes, lemon, Some caramel malts, added yeasty sugars. Maybe a little floral in the finish.

Taste - Light citric hops with some malts mixed in. Moreso farmhouse/floral like with big lemon and grape flavors. Has a tart grape flavor also. Some spices and added sugars give this some extra flavors but nothing too strong or bold. Finish has some grapefruit, orange and a crisp clean note.

Mouthfeel - Tongue gets hops mixed with some sugars. Palate gets remaining citric hops, some malts and plenty of lemon crispness. The aftertaste is very crisp, dry hoppy, and clean.

Overall - Not bad, nothing groundbreaking here just easy to drink, not high hopped ipa. The amount of lemon and the farmhouse flavor/feel makes this a great summertime beer. Worth a drink. (890 characters)

A - Poured into a Boddington's pub glass vigorously. Massive head that leaves insane lacing around glass, nice sticky look. Perfect golden amber hue with some columns of carbonation rising to the surface. Good lookin' beer!

S - Picking up a burst of hops, that then kinda dies down into nothin. Still feel some citrusy cereal sweetness that also fades away.

T - First taste is a powerful bitter punch of hops, some corrosiveness and acidity with huge licks of citrusy lemon and a little pineapple. Aftertaste is some salty cracker and pound cake heaviness, maybe even some cereal sweetness at the end. Very pleasant flavor.

M - Smooth and sticky at the same time, it really lingers on the inside of your mouth, but it feels opaque, like something's missing.

O - Not a bad IPA by any means, quite the opposite actually, wonderful flavor and color. A great beer for the end of a hard day. (890 characters)

From the 12 fl. oz. bottle stamped 2622-11:55-7C. Sampled on July 23, 2013.

The color is generally medium amber to copper or maybe orange with an off-white head that sticks around for most of the session. Slight cloud.

The nose has a likable earthy hop feel with pale malts, a little citrus, and an overall clean ester.

The body is light to medium but it does come with a slight astringency.

Unlike the aroma the taste brings forward the earthy hoppiness ahead of everything else followed by a decent biscuit malt palate and some sweetness. It finishes a little dry and lingers briefly. A drinkable IPA. (607 characters)

Amber color with a one finger thick head with average retention and leaving laces.
Nice fruity aroma, tropical fruits and grapefruit.
Flavorful fruity, citrus and floral hoppy taste, with notes of guaraná, pineapples, grapefruits and pine. Hints of resin and toasted malts. Dry and bitter aftertaste.
Light body with good carbonation.
Well executed beer, very pleasant to drink. Super balanced... for hop heads like me. (420 characters)

poured from a bottle into a pint glass

a: light gold or amber... thin, quick head. The color seems a bit thin to me... it looks fine, but nothing special.

s: a little citrus bite, some nice round malt...

t: bye bye malt, hello hops! the malty smell disappears and the hops come in full force... in a good way, not too piney, nicely bittersweet, the orange is still there, some hints of sweet and sour chicken...

mf: medium-light carbonation and fairly light body pair well with the full tongue bitterness...

a good beer. probably won't be my go to IPA but i will likely pick up another single from time to time. (617 characters)

Appearance: nice clear golden-amber body with a thin white head that was gone in a second; lacing on the glass with each sip but nothing clinging to the glass

Aroma: faint overall, some fruit, biscuit, touch of sea grass

Flavors and Mouthfeel: crisp, light crisp citrus bitterness, faint stone fruit, light toasted grains, malty backbone, firm carbonation, moderate citrusy aftertaste, prickly feel on the back and aftertaste, refreshing feel for an IPA

To the Point: a nice tasting IPA or PA; not big or bold; just easy to drink; (533 characters)

A - Two fingers worth of ultra lush, slightly fizzy, moderate creamy, delicate and fluffy off-white colored head... Rock solid retention... A near infinite amount of swirling moderate to rapid paced carbonation throughout... The color is a vibrant light bronze with some distinctive amber hue... There is a slight haziness as well... Rings of lacing clings to the glass...

S - More malts than hops, but that isn't necessarily a bad thing... Caramel... Toasted malts... Loads of cracker and biscuit... The hops are present, but take a distant back seat... Once encountered they are of a light tropical fruit presence... A light hint of bubble gum as well...

T - The taste is a near mirror image of the aroma... A heavy malt base... Biscuit... Dough... Caramel... Lightly toasted malts... The hops again take a back seat... The are equal parts piney, citrusy, and earthy... Nothing earth shattering, but solid all the way around...

M - On the lighter side of medium bodied... Lush to start... Crisp in the middle... Finishes smooth with just a slight touch of dryness... Limited carbonation... Even and consistent... Very nice...

D - What we have here is a simple, straight-forward and unpretentious American IPA... Quaffability of off the charts... If you're looking for a hop bomb, you may want to reconsider... If you're looking for an enjoyable, well-round, malt-forward American IPA... Lucky for me I enjoy both types... (1,429 characters)

Pours a super clear yellow orange...very much a looker here. Smells hoppily floral, and fruit and pine and hops and little malt or grain note to go along. Tastes great...low malt showcasing the hops. Nice bitterness and mouthfeel throughout. Like this one a whole lot and would get this again. (293 characters)

Got this off tap at the green dot in detroit, served to me in a mug.

A: is a dark gold color with a short off white head with medium amounts of lacing.

S: crisp scent, wheat, citrus, and of course hops

T: very smooth, crisp, wheat, citrus, malts, herbs, with a strong hop finish, but not as extreme as other IPAs I have had, so I'd say it's fairly mild but still quite present.

M: refreshing, light body, medium carbonation

O: First beer from Blue point, not too bad, not a big fan of IPAs but this was fairly decent, not to say they skimped on the style, the hops were super evident, just a bit more mild and more citrus, recommended. (642 characters)
