Served on-tap at Rattle N Hum in New York, NY

A: Pours an opaque jet black in color with minimal amounts of visible carbonation and some light amounts of cola brown highlights. The beer has a half finger tall off-white head that reduces rather quickly to a medium patch of very thin film and a thin ring at the edges of the glass. Light to moderate amounts of lacing are observed.

S: Light to moderate aromas of dark and roasted malts along with sour cherries.

T: Upfront there are light to moderate flavors of dark malts and roasted malts. Moderate flavors of sour cherries which get a little stronger as the beer warms up. Light hints of alcohol.

M: Medium bodied with light to moderate amounts of carbonation. Smooth.

O: I really enjoyed the flavors of sour cherries in the imperial stout style - I found it to be interesting and a touch unique but enjoyable. Alcohol is well hidden and this one is easy to enjoy sipping on for a while.

The beer pours a pitch black color with a thick frothy tan head that slowly fades to lacing. The aroma is great! It has a dry, earthy black malt scent along with a noticeable smokiness to it. I'm not detecting the cherries in the aroma at all. The taste is great as well. It has a smooth, black, chocolate, and peated malt flavor that goes down so easy and finishes slightly warm with a light cherry taste. The cherries are just another addition in the makeup of this beer. This is one malty brew. The mouthfeel is fine. It is a full bodied beer with adequate carbonation. This is a wonderful beer. It's a RIS with sour cherries added. It's well brewed and not overly fruity; Good Work!

Had this on tap at Max's in Baltimore. Not sure if this was an aged keg, so I do not know accuracy of retirement label.

Appearance:black in color with a two finger fluffy head that lasts quite a while for a higher alcohol beer.Thick lacing paints the glass.

Smell: mild cherry tones but much bigger chocolate tones rise from the glass and are easily detectable.

Taste: large amounts of chocolate, hints of coffee, warming alcohol, mild bitterness, and a pleasant mild cherry flavor gives this a dessert-like flavor.

Mouthfeel: smooth throughout. Super long aftertaste as the flavors stick to your tongue, almost needing a water rinse to clear them. Heavy bodied beer.

Drinkability: at a strong 10% ABV, this is a meal (more like a dessert) in a glass, so one is very enjoyable while more would be tough to handle.

09/19/12 On tap at Rattle n Hum, NYC. Never was big on sour anything so it's no surprise this was not to my liking.

Appearance was pitch black with a coffee colored head. The smell was a lot of coffee and sweet scents with hints of cherry through out. The taste was great with a lot of classic imperial stout flavors like dark chocolate and nuts that was softened and enhanced by the subtle sour/sweetness of the cherries through out the taste. The mouthfeel wasn't as thick as I was expecting but overall a very nice beer that I would definitely recommend to fans of dark beers.
