With a brisk pour into my Sam Adams shaped pint glass, the 22-ounce bomber bottle yields a brew that is quite clear and is bright tangerine-tinted copper in color. A fluffy, tinted-ivory cap of soft, grainy foam caps the drink, relaxing slowly as it deposits ragged patches of drippy lacing onto the insides of the glass.
The aroma is lightly toasted and caramel sweet, the malty sugariness augmented with notes of green tobacco, fresh-squeezed oranges, and a sprinkle of cracked black peppercorns.
The taste is malty-sweet and candylike in a medium-dark kilned cereally kind of a way; the toffee and caramel base flavors are accented with a splash of stiff green herbal bitterness and a twist citrusy hop oils. The finish is relatively dry with a bit of earthy husk, just a sprinkle of pepper, and a touch of dusty-dry dark toasted bread lingers upon the palate.
The drink is medium-full bodied and slickish in feel, and to be more my liking would probably benefit from just a spritz more carbonation. A pretty easy drinker nonetheless.
