This beer is appropriately named with its nearly opaque body with deep brown hues and a densely laced tan head that is very patient to subside.
Earthy and pine hops highlight the aroma with smoky roasted malt and a touch of mocha.
There is a battle between the smoky malt and earthy hops on the palate with hints of grass and pine.
Medium in body with moderate carbonation and a drying finish; this beer is smooth, yet very present on the palate.
I am not sure exactly where this fits into the style, but it is a good beer. Certainly worth a try.

Poured from a 16oz can into a US tumbler pint glass.
A: The beer is a dark brown color, with a short off-white head that fades slowly and leaves a thick lace on the glass.
S: The aroma contains roasted malts, some chocolate and some hops.
T: The taste starts out sweet with flavors of caramel, chocolate and maple which make this beer seem more like a brown IPA than a black one. The hops presence is mild for the style. The malt character is hearty and brings a good balance. The after-taste is slightly sweet.
M: Crisp and smooth, medium body, medium carbonation, finish is clean for the style.
O: Tasty, goes down easily, not too filling, good kick, not the best representation style, it’s a good beer but it certainly does not seem like a “Black IPA”.
