The label caught my attention as I pulled it from the case at Bellport Beer, but it was the odd hops profile that caught my nose as I tried to discern what it was. The dark ale with a cream colored head seemed like the title it was named for in a funny sort of way. The first taste was an interesting combination of bitterness, followed by sweetness, and then the hops rolled in with a interesting mix.
The taste of the ale seemed to evolve like that of a DIPA and continued to entertain my senses. The aroma also seemed to change as I swirled the ale around my glass.
It turned out to be an interesting ale worthy of more bottles to discover it contents and the things it would go well with.

Poured from a 16oz can into a US tumbler pint glass.
A: The beer is a dark brown color, with a short off-white head that fades slowly and leaves a thick lace on the glass.
S: The aroma contains roasted malts, some chocolate and some hops.
T: The taste starts out sweet with flavors of caramel, chocolate and maple which make this beer seem more like a brown IPA than a black one. The hops presence is mild for the style. The malt character is hearty and brings a good balance. The after-taste is slightly sweet.
M: Crisp and smooth, medium body, medium carbonation, finish is clean for the style.
O: Tasty, goes down easily, not too filling, good kick, not the best representation style, it’s a good beer but it certainly does not seem like a “Black IPA”.
