i haven't been this blown away by a beer in years.

The beer was on cask and had just came in so it was as fresh as could be.

The first thing was it looked awesome with a big pillowy white head.

Then the nose. This is where this beer made me say holy *#%$. I stopped and smelled for 2 minutes before i even sipped. It was floral and red grapefruit and tropical fruits. just so complex and amazing.

The taste didn't disappoint and followed suit. with passion fruit. sweet grapefruit citrus. there was really no discernible hop bitterness. just oily and floral. maybe the cask subdued the bitterness but this is why it was really unique and great

mouthfeel was excellent and the cask may have had something to do with the experience. it was perfect just barely cool temp so it really opened up all the flavors and mouth feel.

this is an outstanding beer super fresh on cask and I cant wait to try it on standard tap. Cask will be hard to beat though.

One off single hop ipa brewed for long island craft beer week.

Pours straw gold with a white 2 finger head. Smells like pure grapefruit juice...tons of hops in this bad boy. Hop taste hits you in the face like a ton of bricks and gives way to a slightly sweet and dry clean tasting finish. Mouthfeel and carbonation are right on par with the normal west coast ipa. Overall this beer really blew my mind, its so nice to see these guys getting some of their amazing one off brews out of the tap room and around town.

This beer comes in a clear gold color.

The aroma is just huge of pineapple, tropical fruit, papaya, mango, tons of blood orange. I really had a hard time trying to pick out the fruit that I was getting, but I think in the end, it’s kumquat. It’s got that citrusy tropical combination, but it’s so distinct.

This beer has one of the best aromas from an IPA that I’ve ever smelled. Most IPAs, even if single hopped, are just a combination of all kinds of aromas. A meld of hops, fruit, malt. This was different. It literally could’ve been a fresh cut fruit in a jar and I couldn’t have told you the difference. So big and fresh smelling.

The flavor is a bit shallow with that aroma in mind. There’s a good amount of tropical fruit and then a huge herbal, pine bitterness. There’s a huge lack of malt character, which makes the beer a bit watery.

I’ve yet to have the Hoptical Illusion, but maybe that it’s that beer with a huge amount of Mosaic dry hopping. If Mosaic beers are generally this good, then I’m 100% sold on that hop.

I would love to see Blue Point do more beers like this. The flavor wasn’t quite there for me, but it still was a great beer.

On tap at Burgatory on 12-4-13

A - Clear yellow gold with 1.5 fingers of white foamy head light on lacing
S - Pineapple, white grape, mango, papaya, peach, light sweet pale malt. Unreal.
T - Lots of fresh tropical fruit flavors as mentioned in the aroma, crackery malt, a hint of some pine.
M - Very dry, medium bodied.
O - Excellent IPA, best use of mosaic I've had so far.
