I enjoy going to this location whenever I head home to Omaha. Although this is not the same place in Tucson, Arizona where I spent the majority of my college days at this watering hole. This is your All-American bar/grill that is spacious, filled with sports memoriabla, great food (especially the wings, pizza, calzones, and burgers) full of courteous and knowledgable staff/bartenders. The Old Chicago franchise is known for its 110+ beers and its legendary "World Beer Tour" which took me about 9 months to complete. As a reward, my name and personal quote was engraved on a plaque on their "Hall of Foam" (in Tucson). An Old Chicago usually has over 20+ brews on tap and hundreds of bottles from all over the world - mostly mainstream and easily accessible however. Oftentimes, the Old Chicago establishment would serve up local beers from its state or region. Thumbs up for this place!

In Nebraska for a friends wedding and me and a couple other groomsman wanted to have a beer after the wedding and heard this place had a good selection of beers so we decided to hit it up.

The atmosphere was about what you'd expect from a chain, nothing special.

The service was great. There were so many beers so me and one other guy were having trouble deciding what to get. The waitress was great, she described the beers we had questions about in detail and made recommendations based on what styles we said we liked. She ran back and forth to the bar for us to try samples until we finally settled on the one we wanted. Up to three samples for free is hard to beat, and the prices on the pint wasn't bad at all, about average.

Like I said above, the selection was amazing. Beers from all over the world and they offered some of the local fare, which is what I ended up getting. I would guess about 200 different kinds of beer, I had a lot of trouble picking which one I wanted.

I would go back, I'm kind of sad we don't have one around here, this selection was great and I prefer the non-skanky waitresses compared to places like The Flying Saucer.

Transcribed from notes dated W, 05 Aug 2009.

My umpteenth Old Chicago and despite what others may have written, I remain an unabashed fan of the chain. This review is for the Eagle Run/Birch Drive location. It is designated as such due to its proximity to a local golf course.

I blew it. This review should have been just AFTER the review for Oakview instead of just BEFORE it. Sorry.

This one was at the north end of a short strip mall just south of West Maple Road on Birch Drive at 132nd Street. A patio sat at the northeast end of the building with the entry just south of the patio. Entering, there was a short vestibule with the m.d.s. inside to the immediate right. As BDitty187 noted, this was a relatively small location with the bar area to the immediate left. The bar was a blonde-wood "U"-shaped style with its back bar a bank of twenty-nine CO2 taps and one N2 tap, flanked by two two-door coolers. Past the bar, on the left, was the game area which included a green-felt pool table and some electronic games. It was a slow afternoon when I visited, so baseball on TV was the afternoon's diversion. Aft and right of the bar were the lavatories. There was an extensive restaurant area to the right of the door with booth seats along the windows and standard restaurant tables and chairs in the center. Nothing terribly out of the ordinary, but it still merited more than a simple generic review.

Also of note were Empyrean Ales' Free Beer Class and Food Pairings on the first Wednesday of each month and Cask Night on the second Wednesday, beginning at 1600. I would call to confirm.

I will only write one old chicago review because they are all the same. I like the place, frankly because my wife likes to go there as well, I can watch a game and get a good calzone or pizza and I am not limited to SA, AB and Miller products as a strict rule. I enjoy taking part in their beer tour because it gives me a chance to chronical what beer I have tried. Typically the best brews are in a bottle not on tap and often the newest or seasonal picks are not on the beer menu. If you ask the server they will find out what is new and serve you that. If you go at noon and eat at the bar, the bartenders typically receive the orders or do the ordering and know what is new and fresh in the cooler, little did I know it isn't kosher to have 4 pints and head back to work for the afternoon. My mistake.

Old Chicago is a chain beer bar. The selection is heavy on mediocre to lousy lagers. Every location has the same core imports (see website) with a few individual import options. The domestic beer, i.e., micro/craft beer selection is okay. I hate the fact they offer no hoppy beers! Come on! They do offer Nebraska beers, Empyrean for sure, sometimes Spilker Ales and maybe something from Gottberg Brewpub (listed as “Nebraska’s Own” for some dumb reason). I would ignore the menu and visit the bar to check the taps and bottle selection in the cooler.

Old Chicago serves their beer in chilled (sometimes frosted) mugs. Ask the server for a normal glass. The prices for the beer are a touch high.

The food is good, something for everyone. The grub is American & American-Italian, everything from hamburgers to calzones. I like the nachos. Prices are good for the food.

The service at the location has been awful. I mean awful. Ignored for long periods of time. Clueless staff. Moderate is size, largely a restaurant. Standard décor. The vibe is fake hip. I will not visit this location again… easily the worst in Omaha.

Plenty of parking for those who want to take the risk.
