Appearance This one poured light yellow in color with a hint of orange and a decent-enough head.
Smell The predictable light American grain aroma was complimented with some interesting spices. I could have sworn I picked up some Belgian-style coriander.
Taste This wasnt bad. The grainy flavor was better than many American efforts and it lacked that horrid Gummi-Bear sugary sweetness at the finish that so many macros seem to have. I also like the spicy character of this one.
Mouthfeel Light-bodied with a nice, delicate, refreshing carbonation. This one is smooth on the palate.
Drinkability This is a very unique example of American grainy beer and is worth a look.

This is an interesting one. As it has the word "light" in its name, I imagine it will attract people who come into Heartland brewpub that dont have good taste in beer, or people that just arent really into beer in general and think they want something "light."
Even if it didnt have "light" in the title this beer would still attract people who don't really like beer because it is a lot like orange soda. The menu described it as having "accents of fresh orange," but it is more along the lines of "orange soda with accents of beer." This has to be the fruitiest beer I've ever had. This is not a good thing.
Orange. Orangeorangeorange. Orangeyjuicesodaorange. Did I mention this beer has a very noticeable orange flavor?
I guess if you like "malternatives" this beer would be right up your alley. A positive point for the Indian River Light could be that it would make a good crossover beer if you have a friend into malternatives or crappy beer that you are trying to get into craft beer.

Spice jar aroma, ginger and floral. Quaffable beer, over-the-top coriander, not a hint as promised, and cloying suagry sweetness (as characteristic of almost their entire lineup). Light pale, but lace is nice. Fresh smell, light mouthfeel. Decently carbonated as is the lineup, but this one is quite odd and unusual.

On-tap at Heartland Brewery and Chophouse (Times Square), New York, NY
A: The beer is clear yellow in color but has no visible carbonation. It poured with a quarter finger high white head that died down, leaving delicate lacing on the surface and a collar around the edge of the glass.
S: Light aromas of floral hops and oranges are present in the nose.
T: The taste is slightly sweet and seems to resemble orange blossom honey a bit, but the flavors dissipate rather quickly.
M: It feels light- to medium-bodied on the palate and has a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: This beer isn't that difficult to drink but doesn't seem to really fit its style and could use a little flavoring and bitterness from the hops in the taste.

Taken at the ESB location on 18th Jan 2013: God it was cold outside!
Inside it was warm and welcoming.
The beer is pale yellow, almost golden, the bright winter sun giving it a true shine as it burst through the window. A white, thin head sat on top.
Citrus lead in the nose and taste: more grapefruit and lemon than orange.
Body wise it was OK, could have done with a bit more depth maybe.
My first beer in New York (they got better).

Poured a light copper hue with a quarter inch white head. There was little retention and no lacing.
The smell featured an artificial orange zest and a clean biscuity aroma.
The taste consisted of a refreshing orange zest and a soft biscuity grain. There was also some detectable coriander.
The mouthfeel was thin, mildly wheaty and crisp.
Overall a unique and easy drinking ale.

I had this as a part of a voyage at the Heartland at 51st between fifth and sixth avenues in Manhattan. I wasn't aware that this was a pale ale since there really aren't descriptions of the beers. I though it was a light lager. Not great in either case but not terrible. Very light in color, light carbonation, very little aroma. I'm glad i tried it but I wouldn't order it again.

Had this beer at the Radio City location. Served in a sample glass as part of a flight. Served cool.
Pours a dark gold body and a white head. Smells very strong of orange soda. Tastes like a orange crush. Fruit stone finish. Light body and high carbonation.
No thanks. Way to weird tasting. Too much like orange soda.

Served in a shaker pint. I thought this would be the weakest of the offerings at Heartland but was very surprised by it. Drank this at their South Street Seaport location. Not much head but still laced OK. The aroma is what took me by surprise, fresh squeezed orange scent was great. I did not really detect corriander in aroma or taste. Taste was light and crisp with the taste of orange but did not dominate like in the aroma. Very drinkable.

Indiana River Light….on tap at Port Authority
Appearance-mild orange to pale color, minimal head in the pint glass, carbonation dissimilates quickly.
Smell-mild fruit, alcohol, nose of grain and other fruits, subdued and weak
Taste/Mouthfeel-not tasty, this is advertised as having orange notes and this is true that they are there, but they compound a clean beer an otherwise clean beer with a flat soda flavor, muddled mixture that isn’t smooth and doesn’t go down well.
Drinkability-flavor isn’t enjoyable, weak and cloying
Overall-gimmicky and thoroughly unsuccessful, a rare beer that I inherently disliked. Avoid and try one of Heartland’s better offerings.

First had: on tap at Heartland Empire State, NYC, NY
For the people who come into the brewpub asking for Miller Lite. Pours pale golden yellow with a small white head. Aroma of light, sweet malts, and light fruits coming through. Yeasty, malty taste, with light crisp fruits coming through, but not too flavorful. Light mouthfeel and pretty drinkable, but too light for me.

Samples at Radio City, Nyew York. Pours orange hue with a thin white head. Nose is mostly orange fruit and some caramel malt. Flavors are similar to aroma. Some dough and light hops are also present. Light, smooth body. The brew is too orangy for me.

Had a glass of this on a trip to the brewery.
A: Pours a golden body with a small, white head with nice retention and lacing until the finish.
S: Hints of orange blossoms that were fairly evident. Some malty undertones.
T: A smooth mix of a bunch of different spices; orange blossoms were evident along with coriander and some sweet malts to balance.
M: A little on the thin side and slightly watery was about average for this type of beer.
D: A fairly drinkable beer that had a decent combination of mouthfeel and taste. The combination of the orange zest and coriander was quite pleasant and made this brew a nice summer beer to drink.

Nearly no head but does leave a touch of lace. This beer is dark golden in color and is clear.
The aroma features mostly malt. It reminds me of the smell of a brewery--slightly stale "beer" smell.
This is a very sweet beer. The flavor that comes to mind is Fruit Loops. The hop is very light. Thin in body and high in carbonation, this is a moderate lager, at best.
