Appearance – This IPA was bright, dark orange with brilliant clarity. The nice, foaming head let some intricate lace patterns on the inside of my sampler glass.

Smell – The hop profile is very complex at the nose. I enjoyed the many smells to include the good citrus and pine notes.

Taste – This is an evenhanded blend of light citrus and good pine resin. The lightly-toasted malt backbone had a bit of caramel sweetness to it, completing the package.

Mouthfeel – This medium-bodied IPA was smooth in the mouth with some good carbonation and a wonderful dry finish.

Drinkability – A very good, balanced effort at the style.

(Served in an American pint glass)

A- This beer has a deep copper body with a thick bubble off-white head and a gentle carbonation.

S- This beer has a light pale malt aroma followed by a big bitter dandelion hops finish. There is a caramel malt hint that comes through when it is pretty warm.

T- This beer has a big pungent bitterness that dominates. Underneath is a soft light cream and light toasted malt hint with some biscuit notes coming when it warms. The bitterness lingers for a good bit.

M-This beer has a medium-full mouthfeel

D-Nothing stops the big pungent flavor. No real aroma or flavor hops to speak of. Just a kick in the teeth bitterness

Heartland Brewery- Indiana Pale Ale

On tap at Radio City location.

A- Nice clear golden copper with a sticky messy head.
S- Heavy malt, grains, and oily hops.
T- Heavy on the dry cracked grains; sunflower and oat come through. Oily pine hops and a nice crisp Citrus rind blended in as well.
M- Buttery and creamy malt with a solid dry bitter hop finish.

Overall- I've been to Heartland maybe 3-4 times now and the Indiana Pale Ale is always my beer of choice. This and their Pumpkin Ale are great picks!

A little hop aroma, and C hop taste. Lots of lace, I think a popular offering. Medium mouthfeel. If they tuned up the hops, it would be more competitive. It is perhaps too malty and intended for the general public. An average IPA, which for this brewpub is saying something.

Pop into Heartland every now and then coming through Port Authority...

Nice looking beer- half an inch of head and tons of lacing coating the glass. Amber color IPA with a nice nose of floral piney hop. Sticky and hoppy, not too bitter. Tasty as hell, but nothing over the top. Nice easy drinking IPA. I would try this again.

I had a pint of this at the Union Square location and overall was a good beer, which I was a little surprised with after the first beer that I had, but I won't dwell on that. The beer was a nice golden red color to it with a thin slightly off white head to it. It looked like it was going to be overly carbonated. The smell was very good. The hops really came out and gave a good indication it was not going to disappoint. The taste was all hops and was not overly carbonated. The beer was fresh and did not leave a bitter after taste that some Pale Ales do. Overall, this would be a beer that I would order again.

Served on tap at the Heartland Brewery location on W 51st street (Radio City).

A: The IPA has a strong copper color, exuding a brilliant orange color. The head neared a finger and left hints of lace.

S: The nose is full of bitter citrus notes supported by caramel grains. The nose is somewhat reserved but it sets the stage nicely for the taste.

T: The first sip delivers a blast of hop bitterness, thick with resiny grapefruit flavors that caught me off guard. I was expecting a mild IPA but this one kicks the bitterness up signigicantly. Caramel malts are able to add a dry sweetness to the drink but for the most part the hops dominate.

M: The bitterness lingers long after the sip a gone, this one is not half bad.

D: I could have easily enjoyed another pint or two of this.

Had on tap @ the radio city location

A - Not much in the head department, had a copper color to it, (my friend had the rooster lager and it looked almost the same)

S - Not a huge nose on this, more like an APA than an IPA

T - Some citrus flavor. average hop bitterness there. A nice tasting IPA, not Huge hop-wise by any means but just an average, pretty well balanced.

M - Fairly light, prickly carbonation.

D - Easy drinking, session IPA. Nothing that wows you just a middle of the road one

Draft at HB burger: Poured a slightly hazy beige color ale with a medium foamy head with good retention. Aroma of medium bitter hops with light dry malt notes. Taste is also dominated by dry malt with a medium bitter finish with some subtle floral notes. Body is about average with good carbonation. Well done though lacking some character to somehow stand out.

On Tap @ Heartland Brewery

Look: Golden orange color, clear, medium head with decent retention & lacing

Smell: Floral hops, sweet & bready malts

Taste: Up Front: Grainy & bready. Finish: Citrus, caramel, sweet malt

Mouthfeel: Medium body and carbonation, slightly cloying finish

Drinkability: I could have 2-3 of these

Overall Impression: It's a pretty good IPA. If you are ever in NYC, check it out in any of their locations

On tap at the Heartland Brew pub in Uptown Manhattan.

I was pleasantly surprised with this IPA as I didn't expect much. Appearance was pretty average, a light amber with minimal head, mostly transparent. Smell was a subdued citrus hops. Smelled like a decent IPA watered down a tiny bit. Taste followed the smell accurately. It's a bit toned down but the citrus hops are forceful enough to provide a good bit of flavor. It's well balanced and highly drinkable. Not a knock your socks off IPA but one you could easily have a few of without complaints. Reminds me a bit of Harpoon's IPA.

On a visit to see the Christmas tree, we stopped in to check out the place. The Indiana pale ale was on tap so I had one. It was quite pedestrian though adequate. Medium bitterness for the style, the brew was thirst quenching though a little thin in mouthfeel. The malts did come thru nicely after awhile as the beer was served a might too cold. The beer was not bad, and though fresh tasting, the brewer seemed to be just aiming for the middle ground.

On-tap at Heartland Brewery and Chophouse (Times Square), New York, NY

A: The beer is slightly hazy yellowish amber in color. It poured with a quarter finger high white head that died down and left some lacing on the surface and a collar around the edge of the glass.
S: Moderate aromas of citrusy and pine resin hops are present in the nose.
T: The taste has a melange of citrusy and piney flavors and is accompanied by a light to moderate amount of bitterness.
M: It feels medium-bodied and a little crisp on the palate with a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: This isn't a bad IPA - it lacks the complexity in aromas and flavors compared to some of the other beers in the style but would appear to more of a mainstream beer drinker.

On tap at their Union Square location on NYC.

Although technically listed as in IPA, its is but made with Indiana hops, hence the name. I definitely felt it affected the flavor and made it a lot less hoppy than a traditional IPA.

Color was a golden, copper with a head that stuck around and laced nicely.

Had hints of citus, hard to detect the hops.

Tasted great and had I not run out of time I would have had another.

18th Jan 2013: Heartland's New York outlet under the ESB.

Fairly pale yellow with a wispy head, slight haze to the pour.

Citrusy nose, very floral too.

Taste followed the aromas: citrus notes and a floral feel to the flavours.

Body was crisp and almost sharp, refreshing and thirst quenching, but not really interesting or different to many US brews of this style.

Poured a nice copper color with a medium off-white head that stuck around for quite some time. Not too much on the aroma side of things. The taste has some malt sweetness with citrusy hop bitterness. Definitely some cascade hops in this one. It had a medium body with smooth carbonation. An overall good solid version of an IPA.
