Appearance – This one poured a hazy orange in color and was very fluffy just like a good Hefe Weizen should be. The head showed some nice, clingy retention as well.

Smell – Where’s the yeast? It says “wheat”, but there’s no wheat. What’s up with that? This is more of a spicy peach and cherry Belgian than a Wheat Beer.

Taste – This had some pleasant, light pale Belgian flavors but, again, no wheat.

Mouthfeel – This one was clumsy and, worst of all, lacked the fluffy character of a good Hefe Weizen.

Drinkability – Not a bad ale but too off-style to enjoy.

On tap at Radio City. Another pale wheat. Caution and disclosure: They put the slice of lemon in, and my protest led to them removing it and returning the glass rather than giving me a new serving. Overcarbonated, faint of flavour, light mouthfeel, drying finish.

Not a lot to say about this beer, it was pretty weak all the way around. The appearance was a cloudy light orange color with little to no head (not sure if this was the beer or the bartender as 2 of the 3 beers that I had had little to no head on them) The aroma was non-existent. Very light citrus smell to it, but I guess that could have been the lemon wedge that they served with it. There was not much of a taste to it either, slight citrus and some yeast, heavy on the carbonation. Overall, if I were to visit the Heartland Brewery again, I would not order this.

On-tap at Heartland Brewery and Chophouse (Times Square), New York, NY

A: The beer is hazy pale yellow in color. It poured with a quarter finger high white head that died down, leaving a thin layer of bubbles covering the surface.
S: Light to moderate aromas of grain and wheat are present in the nose.
T: The taste is similar to the smell and seems raw, rough and grainy.
M: It feels light- to medium-bodied on the palate and has a moderate amount if carbonation.
O: This beer is easy to drink but isn't refreshing. I took out the lemon to review it but after taking notes I put it in and the taste dramatically improved. It really needs the lemon to cut through the raw grainy and wheaty taste.

18th Jan 2013: New York, ESB location.

Hazy/cloudy pale yellow, a bit of a white crown on top.

Vanilla esters in the aroma and taste: overall a bit sweet and not impressed.

Thin bodied and wishy-washy in general: this was not to my taste at all. It lacked character and any strong flavours to get into. Refreshing it maybe but I wanted something to quench my thirst and give me a reason to have another one.

Poured a hazy straw hue with a one finger foamy white head. There was good retention and very good lacing.

The smell featured a light wheat biscuity wheat with a minor yeast spiciness. There was a bit of a lemon zest as well.

The taste consisted of a trace yeast element and a light wheat malt. There was no clove spiciness to speak of.

The mouthfeel was slightly chewy and dry.

Overall an easy drinking light wheat ale.

I had this as a part of a voyage at the Heartland at 51st between fifth and sixth avenues in Manhattan. The first problem was that the beer came with a slice of orange in it. I didn't have the heart to ask for another one. It was ok, like many of their beers. It looked exactly as a wheat should, good aroma, nice flavor. If you like wheats, it's a good one.

Served as part of a flight at the Radio City location. Cool and in a sample glass.

Pours a hazy gold body and a wisp head (lemon wedge ruined it). Lemon smell. Lemon taste.

Low carbonation and a light mouthfeel.

Please stop the lemon wedge. Very lemon drop flavor and too little carbonation.

Served in a shaker pint at their South Street Seaport location. By far the weakest offering they have. Small head for a wheat with a cloudy staw colored body which laced OK. Could only smell the slice of lemon that was served with this one. Taste was not to my liking and I like wheats. Very bland and watery if not for the lemon slice it may of had no taste at all. Avoid this one they do offer better brews.

Heartland Brewery Harvest Wheat...

Appearance-on tap in a 23 oz glass, decent head, fizzy, lots of carbonation, they claim it is unfiltered but there is no cloudiness and it actually seems pretty clean.

Smell-grainy, alcohol notes, some hops.

Taste/Mouthfeel-thin and sweet, some residual hops appear and malt but very watery on the finish.

Drinkability-refreshing on a hot day, but then again so is miller lite.

Overall-this beer does not measure up to some of the better version of this style and it's barely passable. Much better wheat beers for your money.

Tasted on-tap 01/10/07 at the Heartland Brewery Times Square in NY, NY.

Cloudy straw colored with a decent white head. Nice grainy aroma and flavor without that annoying citric wheat character that is typical of the style. Medium-light bodied and smooth with a nice finish.

One of the better American Pale Wheat Ales that I've had in a while.

Per HB website: 4.5% ABV.

Samples at Radio City, New York. Pours hazy golden hue, with a foamy, long lasting, white head. Aroma is dominated by apples and bananas some notes of weat malt. Light, crisp body. Yeasty, fruity flavor (mostly apples). Nice, refreshing summer brew..

Got a pint of this at the brewery.

A: Pours a cloudy, hazy golden body with a silky, bright white head with good retention and nice lacing along the sides of the glass.

S: Not much of a smell. Slight citrus undertones were noted.

T: Not much of a taste either. Slight notes of orange blossoms and lemon zest, but nothing too impressive. Malts were almost not evident and made themselves appear in the aftertaste.

M: A fairly light mouthfeel that was a little on the thin side. Nothing too impressive.

D: Ok drinkability overall, but nothing to write home about. The taste was decent at best and the mouthfeel could have used a little working on. I can't say I'd return for this one.
