I hadn't been in HEartland for a few years. It is a good if pricey($6.5 pints) in the Union Square area. As far as brewhouses go they seem to have really amped up their level of beers they produce which was one of the problems in years past. The seasonal beers included a Swartzbier, Pumpkin Ale and Fest bier. All were good examples of the style, with the Swatzbier or Bavarian Black Lager as they call it being the best of the bunch. They also had an IPA with a arily decent hop kick. Foodwise, it is better than typical barfood but nothing special. There are not too many brewhouses in the NYC area so that makes it a decent place to go to every so often. Still they only serve their beers, so it doenst quite measure up to the Blind Tiger.
