This was the third of three brewpubs we visited in Toronto on our two-day stay there to see the Blue Jays play at the Sky Dome. The other two Toronto breweries we visited were C'est What Brewery and Granite Brewery.
I thought I was going to be the one in the group that was most difficult to please based on the brews we saw on the menu. Missing were the hoppy ales and bitters. So I settled on the Nutbrown Ale and then the Dutch Amber. They were quite good. The place is located on a corner on King Street, within walking distance of the Sky Dome. It has a sidewalk patio with pretty good service. The inside bar is friendly and the service is good there as well. There were quite a few people driving up to purchase their bottled beer in six-packs.

This was the first place I went to when I landed in Toronto, so that I could make it in time to take the tour that they offer. I arrived about 10 min beofre the tour was to start. The guy that gave the tour was very nice, but had to use a cheat cheet to give the tour because it was his first time to give one. They have eight beer on tap to try four from Amsterdam and 4 from KLB. Both breweryies from what I under stood are now owned by Amsterdam. For the mkost part the beers are a little below average. The two best beers are the Amsterdam Cream and the KLB Raspberry Wheat. They sell all the beers as singles, I bought one of each so I could have the bottle and to give the beer a second chance. No differenct in what I thought.

The inside of Amsterdam is pretty cramped, however still a pretty cozy bar area inside, TV's are there, long bar with all the taps. Kind of an English polished wood pub type decor style. The quality is decent, Amsterdam beers have the reputation of being pretty mediocre at best, so I usually only go to the brewery when they release a seasonal brew, which are usually pretty decent. I have always had good service here, very friendly servers/bartenders, accomodating and service is usually pretty timely. The selection is limited to Amsterdam brews, so not very high, the food menu is pretty big and the food is decent everytime I've had it, pretty standard pub fare. Best thing about the brewery is that they have their own beerstore, so if you just enjoyed an Amsterdam beer, you'll have something to take home 30 seconds later.

Amsterdam was another brewery that I hit on a HUGE beer/baseball junket last summer. The brewery was located conveinently across from our hotel on King St. and we visited it for a night cap each night that we were in Toronto. Amsterdam had a decent selection of brews, each one in a very different style. I didn't drink them all, but enjoyed the Red and Brown. They didn't have any beers that catered to our over-hoppy tastes, but what they did have was good. The brewery has a nice outside patio area that is good for having a drink and taking in the scenery of downtown Toronto. All in all, a good place to stop and have a quick brew with some friends.
