The sushi here is as far from traditional as it gets, but still tasty. There are a lot of better places in Rochester for sushi, however- gotta go with Next Door or Shiki if you want top quality sushi.
The beer selection is fairly ok, some Southern Tier and Sam Adams and the like, with two house beers, a plum ale and a wasabi ale, made by Custom Brewcrafters.

went here a little while back with some friends before going out for some dinner. Had some really good sushi there are pieces of sushi for everyone here from simple not so crazy stuff to the crazy stuff they have it all. The beer selection wasn't all that great Canadian and some local beers but there is the stand out Wasabi Beer. This interesting brew is surprisingly good with a little wasabi bite to it and from what I understand this is the only place where you can get it. In my opinion its worth coming here just for the Wasabi beer.

California Rollin' is an experience for this reasonably well travelled Northeasterner. A very cool approach with sitting at the bar while the rolls are rolled. They'll make anything you want, but their menu 'suggestions' are truly tasty, if you enjoy sushi (which luckily I do).
The beer selection is pretty decent, considering that this is not a beer bar. A short selection of the usual suspects (yellow beer, Sam Adams, some red) plus some Japanese; also a couple of Custom Brewcrafters concoctions. A wasabi ale was definitely worth a try. Not too wasabi-ish, but with a bit of a bite nonetheless.
It's a great place to meet up with some folks for a quick bite before heading out for an evening. It's located in the Village Gate Square, which is a repurposed warehouse/factory building, so it adds it's own character to the milieu.

The only people who don't like sushi are the people who haven't tried sushi. California Rollin' is by far the best sushi bar I have ever been to. They have an amazing selecton of sushi that you won't see anywhere else. To enjoy your sushi you need a good beer. They have a selection of Japanese beers along with two beers you won't get anywhere else. Wasabi and Plum. Both are brew locally at Custom Brewcrafters. My favorite is the Wasabi. The plum is my girlfriends favorite. When you go enjoy a tuscany roll and a Wasabi brew. You will love it.
