Consumed November 3rd, 2013 at Lucky Baldwin's, Old Town Pasadena.

Beer is brought in a frosted tulip. Appears to be a fairly clear, lightly hazy yellow with a fine white head less than a finger tall.

Aromas of lemon, coriander and wheat. Delicate and nuanced.

Flavor is slightly tart and features a very modest wet hay character. "Are you sure this is a gose and not a gueze?" asked the beer nerd. Light and tangy wheat with a citric zing. The characteristic salt that marks this style does not appear on my palate though, since I am eating french fries along with the beer, that's not surprising. Finishes with low but detectable bitterness and the occasional wince from the tartness. Floral notes lurk in the background.

Mouthfeel is light with a tiny spritz of carbonation.

For my first encounter with a gose, things went well.

A - Dark golden colour. Thin white head.

S - Mild funk and citrus. Getting some malt on the nose as well.

T - Citrus up front then coriander and and salt. Cannot taste the alcohol at all. Enjoying this on a hot summer day, it is a very refreshing beer.

M - Very smooth, crisp, and slightly puckering.

O - Great beer. I really enjoy how different this style of beer is.

On tap at The Pint In West Lafayette, IN. 11 bucks for 16 ounces. Eep. But, you know, I'm a fancy man with fancy tastes...

Pours more filtered-looking that the American goses I've had. I know that the style isn't filtered and that Ritterguts is a prime traditional example of the style, but it just wasn't all that cloudy. Very dark gold, however, with a small white cap.

Smells of tart lacto, big nodes of red cherries. Tastes like cherries up front, corriander and salt near the middle, and it finishes with the sharp esterless-ness you get out of a low-hop european pils. Basically it's like a combination between a good Berliner Weiss and a good continental pilsener, and it's much more balanced than any of the America goses I've drank. Well done.

Reviewed from notes. Poured from 16.9 oz. bottle into a Cigar City pint glass.

A: Medium gold - darker than most goses - and moderately hazy, with a finger's worth of white fluffy head and medium visible carbonation.

S: Tart citric, mildly funky, with wheat and cracker malts that have minimal grainy character.

T: Tart lemon citric; cracker, wheat and husky pilsner malts, mild salinity, and a bit of barnyard. Finishes dry with lemon citric tartness.

M: Light body, medium carbonation sensation, and essentially no alcohol presence.

O: This is very tasty – an excellent gose, and an examplar of a style that's catching on at long last. Recommended for sure.

Pours an almost clear light amber with quick fading white head. Nectarine, lactic with some herbal oakiness and white wine notes. Taste: wheat cracker, lactic with some stone fruit sweetness and tart red grapes, mildly oaky again. Light bodied, building delicate carbonation. Really tasty.
