Looks a Dark brown and ruby. Moderate head that is a milk chocolate colour.

Smells of sweet vanilla with some light chocolate and coffee aroma.

Taste is subtle chocolate and coffee.

I Was expecting heavy but got quite light. Easy drinking.
My first go at a Norwegian beer. I quite like this drop and could easily drink a few of these.

500ml bottle, allowed to warm a little having come in from the outhouse, poured into a UK handled pint glass.

Pours a rich mid-black colour with a good finger of creamy brown/beige head which thins back to a half finger within a few minutes.

On the nose I got sweet flavours, sugar, roasted malt, milky choclolate and a slightly toasted kind of caramel/butter/toffee aroma.

On the palate caramel, toffee, sweet sugar, roasted malts finished with a bitter dry and slightly sweet aftertaste.

Medium bodied stout with fairly low carbonation which provided a good creamy finish.

Overall a decent stout, not quite as sweet as I was expecting but that's no bad thing!

Bottle: Poured a deep black color stout with a large foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma consists of coffee with some dry roasted malt notes. Taste is also dominated by dry coffee notes with some roasted malt. Medium body which is to be expected with some good carbonation. Easily drinkable as per description while still retaining some character.

Half-litre bottle tasted during my 'Drinking around Europe' evening on New Years Eve.

Black bodied beer with a light tan/biege head that stayed the distance as well as leaving some heavy lacing on my UK sleeve glass.

Malty molasses rule the nose and taste: chocolate, coffee and Brazil nuts! All in the aroma and flavours in the mouth.

Nicely put together without setting the world alight: would have prefered a little hop bitterness in the blend to be honest: this was smooth, almost creamy and bordering on rich body wise. Not as Oatmealy as I expected.

Appearance: Black, with visible bits of brown sediment that aren't very pretty (should've poured it carefully and let the sediment remain in the bottle). Pours a nice and creamy one finger head.

Aroma: Milk chocolate and coffee, roasted malt, hint of vanilla.

Taste: Coffee and liquid chocolate, with a hint of bitterness in the aftertaste. Quite mild and light, but with a solid stout base.

Mouthfeel: Smooth, typical oatmeal stout softness. Medium bodied.

Overall: It's rather good for a light oatmeal stout, although I feel that this type of beer is rarely at it's best with a lowish alcohol content. It could easily get up to 6% and this might give it more robustness. Nøgne Ø rarely disappoints, and this is certainly a tasty stout, if it isn't one of their best.

Picked this up at a great little beer store in Arlon, Belgium, Miorge Mihoublon. Dark brown, nearly black pour with a quickly fading one finger caramel colored head with minimal lacing. The nose is roasty and subtly sweet with hints of dark chocolate, espresso, oats, and a touch of smoke. The taste is dark roast forward with hints of nuts, caramel, dark chocolate, cocoa, toasted oats, espresso, smoke, and just a touch of licorice. The mouthfeel is much thinner than I had expected, but very smooth and extremely drinkable with a dry, bittersweet finish. Overall, pretty tasty even though I'm not a huge fan of Oatmeal Stouts.

Nøgne Ø - the uncompromising brewery - claims that this is their only compromise: "Norwegians are dead scared of dark beers. This is an attempt to show that there are gentle dark ales. As such Havre Stout is smooth and drinkable." Was the compromise a mistake? No, and I will give my reasons.

A: I had this one in a Vondel tulip glass, and it truly looks amazing, in a Jennifer Lopez kind of way. It is clear and black with a brown head, and there are small bobbles along the glass edges.
S: There are not very distinct aromas here, but a pleasant sweet maltiness comes through.
T: Roasted malt which gives a burnt, but not aggressive, aftertaste. The flavor is mild from the oat. No taste of alcohol here, which gives me the impression of a Schwarzbier.
M: High carbonation. It has a light dryness. Smooth and fresh.
D: Makes you ask for another one. I had this one a little too cold, which partly excuses the low aroma presence, but it may have added to its smoothness and high drinkability. All in all a very good, but slightly boring beer. I can easily see why the brewer considers this a compromise, but it's a good compromise, and If you want something good that runs down smoothly, this is the choice.

Norwegian micro oatmeal stout. Black (= very dark ruby) colour, some sediment, good head. Nice aroma of roasted malts with some coffee, dark chocolate and cigar box. Mellow, smooth and pleasant flavour, can't detect the oats, some roastedness, hints of coffee. Easy drinking. Aftertaste is OK, but I'd like some more hops.

First had: on tap at Teresa's, Wayne, PA

Great stout! Poured into a pint glass, a dark brown-black with a tan head that receded to a small but firm layer. Rich, roasty aroma of dark malts, chocolate, roasted nuts. Very rich and tasty! Strong chocolate notes up front, dark roasty malts with hints of coffee, cream, and a mild sensation of figs and plums. Silky, full-bodied and very drinkable.

500 ml bottle from Barcelona

Pours almost black with brown and creamy head in one finger thickness and excellent retention. Mild roasted grainy aroma with hints of light sweetness and low fruity esters.

Taste is lightly sweet roasted and earthy malt, hints of nuts with very dry finish and sweetish aftertaste. Mouthfeel is creamy medium-full with lower than average carbonation.

Overall, an impressive Stout, would gladly drink many of them if they would not be so expensive...

An ok stout of a dark brown color and a brownish foam, with bubbles in the head.
Smell and taste are soft, of roasted malts and cola basically, but also coffe. I didn't find strong chocolate tones in this one.
This beer is almost like a cola, but with a huge body and some alcohol (just 4.5%)
A bit disappointing.

I got a huge tan head and audible carbonation off a not particularly aggressive pour. Might have got shaken up a bit in the car on the way home...? Looks great, anyway. A really rich dark brown verging on opaque.

Milk chocolatey nose and just a little coffee and dark chocolate as well. Aroma is very nice but not very forthcoming.

Smooth roasted malt (no burnt notes), bittersweet orange-y twang, nuts, mellow coffee and a bit of dry leaves or tobacco toward the end. Coffee taste comes to the fore as it warms. Creamy moutfeel from the oats, medium body with tons of tiny pinpoints of carbonation.

Very flavourful, but never insists upon itself or overwhelms. Soft and welcoming. If the cats at Nogne Ø set out to make a stout that ANYONE could (and probably should) like, they nailed it.

Pours a pretty decent dark brown, mahogany around the edge, but mostly black. Head is beautiful - medium-thick, dense and creamy foam that sinks slowly, bubbling like soap suds. Lace is thin but clings to the glass like a koala wearing suction cups on its claws. Really superb-looking stout.

Nose is dark and quite rich, with some bitter cocoa notes, slight hints of fresh vanilla and some toasted oats and other grainy characters. Smells a little sweet and I would like it to lean a little more heavily on the roasty side but still, a mild, pleasant stout smell.

Tasty. Tasty beer. Dark throughout with nice toasty flavours, slight espresso notes with some unsweetened dark chocolate and toasted wheat and barley. A sweetness comes through on the mid-palate, slightly milky and a further touch of chocolate with a hint of vanilla. Regains its bitterness for the finish with a bit of woodiness and some fresh espresso grounds, but nothing too ashy. Mouthfeel is a little watery in the mouth and a slight harshness as it goes down, but that's the only rough edge to this beer, it's otherwise a perfectly fine texture.

This is an astoundingly good session stout. Fantastically balanced, tempered and drinkable drop. Once again these naked islanders are hammering into me how well they brew.

On-tap at The Trappist in Oakland, the first time I've seen Havre Stout. On to the beer:

Black like ink with a slightly tanned head that leaves a fair helping of thin lace on the glass. The nose brings to mind smoked meat, like what you would find in an Aecht Schlenkerla brew. Here, it's like A.S. light in a way. In addition to that is a smidge of coffee.

The taste says "rauchbier light". It stays interesting throughout with that same smokey taste and a slight roasted flavor. Light bodied. All told, a solid, easy going stout. Not the most optimal value at $8 for a 33cl pour, but one could easily do worse in that department.

Pours black from the bottle and is completely opaque. One finger of light brown head forms and sits on top receding at an average rate and living a small lace trail behind it.

The aroma is nice. Slight coffee notes as well as some nice bitter dark chocolate.

Taste is nice. Some roasted malts, almost burnt. Also flavors of coffee and dark chocolate. Only slightly bitter, but quite nice.

Mouthfeel is thin for a beer of this style, I'm not sure I could even say medium bodied. Carbonation is also a little high for my taste.

Drinkability is moderate. Low alcohol makes for easy consumption. Flavors are fairly bold, but smooth and very enjoyable. Overall a very drinkable beer. I would definitely have a second.
