Poured from "1 pint .9 oz" (500ml) bomber into a Dogfish Head signature glass (February 11, 2010). No 'bottled on' date here, which is a bit concerning for an IPA, since this was clearly shipped across the Atlantic and might have been shelved for a while.

Eyes: Pours a hazy, dark orange color, with an exuberant fluffy head. There is some muddy redish paste paste inside the cap and around the inner portion of the bottle opening. Not a serious problem per se, just a notable item. The beer looks great in the glass.

Nose: An earthy, dry fruit aroma: apricot, grapefruit, There are some malts, but only very subtle. Not a great aroma, as it's a bit too muted for me.

Tongue: A bit more malty and earthy than most IPA's, which isn't bad, but I think the hops fall a bit short to match this. The citrus/pine hops are there, and the flavor profile is decent, but it's just not enough to match the complex earthy profile here.

Mouth: Very palatable and thick. All goodness here.

Libation: I really like the complex and subtle earthy malt profile, and it would have supported a solid hop punch, but the punch just isn't strong enough to carry the day. Nøgne makes some truly great beers, and while this is very good, it's not comparable to the others in their stable. I've got to think a lot more hop character would only improve this beer. I wonder what this would taste like when very fresh from the brewery?

Creamy white head and a clear orangey yellow body.

Sweet citrus fruit and some floral notes. Nice bright inviting aroma.

Sweet orange but gets a little more grapefruit and pine than the aroma let on. There is some caramel and bready malt in there.

Smooth medium body. Feels like the hops are scraping my tongue as it goes down.

500ml bottle served in a pint glass.

A: Pours a hazy orange color forming s solid, creamy and persistent yellow head. Forms dome creamy and soapy lacings in the glass

S: Intense caramel followed by flowery hops. American style as expected. Malts are a mix of caramel and maris otter and hops are flowery, herby and quite piny with a touch of citrus. Fruity, with notes of orange, grapefruit and a little bit of mango

T: Slightly sweet caramel malts in upfront followed by a dry and intense hops bitterness. Notes of caramel, caramel malts, brown sugar, orange, mango and pine. In overall, a slightly sweet taste followed by a good hops bitterness kick. However, quite smooth and well balanced

M: Medium body and carbonation. Caramel and piny hops in the aftertaste. A great texture. Pleasantly smooth mouth feel

O: Great drinkability. My second Nøgne. No regret so far. Great brew

Pours pale gold/orange and cloudy from the yeast sediment, dense white head which settled fairly quickly. Resinous aroma typical of a strong IPA in common with many US IPA's - reflecting the anticipated taste. Strong forward hoppy flavours typical of the style, rich texture reflecting the 7.5% alc, very tasty and satisfying. Hardly a session beer at this level of alc, but a very good and enjoyable beer. Though a bit expensive being imported from Norway.
