I've reviewed this in the bottle before, but I just had it on tap and there were some differences. I'll copy and paste from my other review and CAPS the differences:
the appearance of this beer is just okay. more like a quad than a barleywine: a dark, murky brown with light brown tints when illuminated, and pillowy tan two finger head. the smell is of pine nuts, figs, LOTS OF SWEET CHERRIES, and a sweet, burnt malt.
the flavor is big time alcoholic, WITH SOME, BUT NOT A WHOLE LOT OF HOPS, MAKING IT MUCH LESS BITTER THAN IN THE BOTTLE. burnt after-taste, THOUGH NOT AS MUCH ON TAP. in that capacity it reminds me of Full Sail's Old Boardhead Barleywine, though much smoother all-around. Sweet fruit up front (figs, mango, caramelized apple, HUGE AMOUNTS OF CHERRIES) accompanied by a brown sugar sweetness, all of which is forgotten in the burnt grapefruit-hoppy middle, finish and aftertaste. a very good beer that is pleasant to drink, but perhaps a little less complex than i like the style to be (HERE THE SWEETNESS, AS OPPOSED TO THE BITTERNESS IS OVERBEARING).
Mouthfeel is nice and thick, and WELL CARBONATED, THOUGH NOT AS MUCH SO AS IN THE BOTTLE. it foams thickly on the palate (a characteristic ive never experienced to this extreme before) instead of "popping" all over. the drinkability is pretty good, though it is very full-bodied and filling when it hits the stomach.

Split a 500 ml bottle Nov.30th
A: looked pretty good Nice Brownish Deep Amber colour, Tan'Offwhite head
S: Subtle, faint notes of caramel and chocolate trying to make their presence known
T: Oxidized full on Cardboard bomb. Lingered over powered even the booze.
M: Slightly thinner than i hoped and the faint carbonation didnt help.
O: Not what i was expecting i checked the bottle best before stamp it had two numbers on it 2 years apart should of been in the clear. might need another look if a new shipment comes in

FYI everyone I am reviewing this from Norway and there has been a mistake on the label. This is actually an imperial IPA. I think it is an excellent beer. I don't really care about how many fingers and color etc...I care about the taste. I must say for an IPA the 2 Captains (also a Nøgne) is closer to the mark for an IPA, however this beer is so awesome I can't help but rate it high. The nose is almost non existent, even in a large wine glass, but the mouth feel is awesome, the bittering and flavoring hops are fantastic! I can't help but wonder what would happen if a huge pile of the right hops where added to this recipe in the last few minutes of the boil. It reminds me of the Dog fish head IPA line, but better. Bravo again. Too bad Nøgne has been sold to a big player. or...maybe not too bad.
