Enjoyed this fine barleywine from a growler in a Delirium snifter, my favorite glass. Pours a hazy brownish red with a solid tan head of 1/2 in foam that dissipates to a thin pool and great lacing. Nose of brown sugars, dates, herbal hops, and sweet malts. Flavors are most excellent and improve with warmth. Sweet brown sugar up front and to the sides with a moderate herbal and bittering hops bite to the rear that dances with date and fig like flavors. A light dark cherry presence is detectable making this a most excellent barleywine to savor, sip, and lay down for a number of years. A smooth mouth feel, like silk, with a lightly but not unpleasant bittering hop coming through on the finish. Excellent.

Cheers!

500mL into a tulip. Pours a clear reddish mahogany w/ a thin khaki head, minimal lace, just a thin film and collar.

Aroma is floral and herbal over a sweet malt background. Toffee, caramel, vanilla, hops.

Taste is likewise a balance of copious sweet malts and lots of floral and bittering hops.

Mouthfeel is chewy, coating, but not syrupy. High gravity evident, but finishes with a nice hoppy bitterness.

Overall a solid example of an American barleywine.
