Found this at Belmont on my last trip and realized I hadn't gotten any of these for the cellar, sadly, it was the last bottle and I'll be drinking it fresher as the weather has me in the mood for saisons?!!?

Poured from the 500ml bottle into a Sam Adams (perfect pint) glass.

Appearance- Beer pours lightly hazy golden yellow with a healthy 2 finger head of foam, beautiful looking beer with a light amount of lace lingering on the sides of the glass.

Smell- Wow, this smells phenomenal, a lot like a Dupont Saison but with extra smells, I'm getting a little lemon citrus and lime (!!) in here with hints of chamomile perhaps even a chai spice. Hops are subdued and I would assume that this is made with Belgian style pilsner malt and a bit of wheat. All this off just the nose, impressive.

Taste- Wow, in that the smell was excellent, the taste is something of a letdown in relation to the smell. It has sort of a cookie cutter saison flavor if that even exists. The substance that was present in the smell is all but gone and I have a thin unmemorable beer with spices in the taste with a hint of lemon on the finish.

Mouthfeel- A slight prickly feel on the lips and a chapped feeling although my lips are fine right now. Thin bodied and medium in carbonation. Lackluster.

Drinkability- Solidly drinkable, but such a letdown after such a great smelling beer. I am left wishing that the smell matched up to the taste so much more. Ultimately it is saison lite.

Poured into an oversized wine glass a pale golden with a touch of honey colored hue a thinner but tight formed white head atop.A mix of a aromas slightly funky with a firm toasted wheat component, some residual honey sweetness and orange linger, flavors are a bit phenolic and yeasty at the onset flollowed by some honey-like sweetness and light citrus fruit maybe a touch of pineapple, toasty thruought with a big herbal near medicanal hop finish.A solid saison here no major flaws and not overly "funky" relying more on fruity sweetness and herbal hop.

Saison by a Norway brewery with a very appealling bottle that states a bold red striped O.

A- Pours a flawless Saison orange and yellow hue with little white head that falls to a ring around the glass.

S- Heavy wheat and sugar compose this beer with light citrus and grassy hops on the backbone.

T-M- Taste is a smooth mixture of mildly rotton oranges and lemon peels. Second is a malty sweetness that lingers on the tongue. Mouthfeel is slightly tart with a sweet astringent feel that leaves a alcohol estery coating.

D- Drinkable as any great beer and i'd knock down quite a few at the right price... cheers!!

Appearance is a very murky light orange colored beer with white head and sticky lace retention ; small dotted pattern left on the glass. Smells of grass, citrus, peaches, white grape juice, decent smell. Taste is grassy, juicy nectarine, bitey, very danky, hops and bready finish; dry. Overall, this brewery still ranks amongts my favs in the World, the Saison is unique, and probably better on hot summer days, rather than cool nites or stormy winters. Would like to see is one paired with Oysters/Lobster/seafood, or a stone fruit desserts. Humbolt Fog..black or white truffles.

Mid sized bottle, no freshness nor bottling date info. Pours cloudy dull apricot, light and short lived near white head then leaves very fine, well detailed sticky lacing. Nose is of lightly sugared dried fruits, light honey blossoms and powdered sugar. Subtle, complex and well crafted creation. Light on the spices early and more of a wheaty, yeasty feel to it. Some pepper late, and soft but drying hops. Nicely done, I'm drinking it on a freezing winter day, but I can imagine this would be a nice summer accompaniment to a lazy lunch of salads, cheese, bread etc. No bargain, but worth a try for lovers of the style.

500mL bottle from the LCBO, part of the summer release. Enjoyed the winter brews from them, so I was excited to see more from them on the shelves. And it's hot as stink out, and I just finished some yard work - clearly, this is perfect weather for a saison.

Poured into my trusty Duvel chalice. Hazy golden brew, about a half inch of foam that settles into a thick ring. Looks about right for the style.

A yeastier, maltier nose that reminds me more so of a strong pale or tripel than a saison. A bit of citrus and herbal hops as well.

Tasty saison, very refreshing. Grapefruit, clove, herbs, lemon, a bit of yeast and bready malt, nicely balanced. The finish is quite citrussy, though the medicinal, herbal hops stick around for quite some time. Mild carbonation, great body to this. It's going down at record speed.

Not quite as dry and musky as I'm used to in a saison, but this is certainly tasty stuff.

NØGNE Ø SAISON is a quality saison that has a very rich almost trippel like flavor. I love the yeasty malty flavors. Classic in style with the fruitiness and spices, but a richer, sweeter. The appearance is good too despite a piss poor head. Light colored but with that messy yeasty look I love to see. Means goood beer! The aroma was OK too. The only downside for me really was the damn texture. Pretty darn fizzy for this tough guy.

But OH do we have some righteous music from the northern Europe jazz label ECM Keith Jarret and his Europen 4tet on the cd entitled "My Song."

(Served in a tall sided tulip glass)
A- This beer has a hazy dense cardboard colored yellow body with a snow white head that has some larger craters in it but last for a good while. There is a strong carbonation of tiny bubbles supporting the head.

S- This beer has a musty smell with a slight lemony note that grows as the beer warms. There is a slight sweet perfume yeasty hint to it under the lemon.

T- This beer has a taste that is a bit like funky barnyard but more white cheese rind and a full preserved lemon flavor to follow. The finish has a lemon rind and pin hop flavor with a carbonic acid dryness.

M- This beer has a medium-light mouthfeel with a fizzy finish.

D- This beer has a nice earthy wild yet light flavor making it great for a warm summer sipper but it also has some nice depth to keep it interesting. It blends the nice funk of an aged beer with the fresh flavor of green hops.

500ml bottle - no idea what the serving temperature is - between freezing and warm, I guess.

This beer pours a cloudy, medium tarnished golden straw colour, with two fingers of weakly puffy, densely foamy, and almost caked dirty white head, which leaves some random splattered rock formation lace around the glass as it evenly subsides.

It smells of gritty wheat grain, edgy yeast, black pepper and coriander spice, stunted apple and pit fruit, and floral, leafy hops. The taste is much sweeter, but still crackery wheat malt, with a reduced acrid and faintly funky yeastiness, pumped-up clove/coriander and white pepper spice, muddled light orchard fruit, and grassy, weedy hops.

The bubbles are quite light in their frothy effervescence, the body a sturdy medium weight for the style, and a bit tacky (look no further than all that nefarious yeast) in its wan attempt at smoothness. It finishes mostly dry, the yeast, grainy malt, spice, and non-interfering fruit straining in that direction.

A pleasant saison, the extra bit of ABV well integrated, and barely noticeable for the most part. Well rounded, the various Flemish-influenced players all game and good to go, rendering this a worthy sipper (or glugger, depending on your persuasion or intent) for all summer patios anon.

I do not think this is retired, another database glitch. Best Before February 2008, and a fresh bottle right out of Norway. A very good smooth drinking saison, although many would object to the bit of vinegar sourness, well controlled mind you, in the finish. White pepper, good head on golden, spicey. Had a fresh bottle, and with it a nice hoppy finish 6 years later.

Pours a really nice yellow, tantalizingly incandescent. Thin head and zero lacings let it down.

Interesting aroma. Combines a nice solid wheatiness with almost tart fruit and pleasantly surprising continental hops.

Wonderfully complex saison. Begins with some nice fresh grain accompanied by just a touch of tart citrus fruit. Continental hops pick up with some welcome bitterness. All tied together with some great Belgian yeastiness in the finish.

A bit more oily, as others have said, than you would expect, but I think it works really well. Most importantly, it's refreshing.

There's a school of thought that a saison is whatever the brewer wants it to be. I don't buy into that. A saison should be a refreshing, light, spritsy beer with extreme quaffability. This one strays a bit from traditional examples but they pull it off well. Highly recommend.

16.9oz bottle

A- Pours a very hazy golden yellow color with orange hues

S- The aroma is delightfully fruity with a lot of citrus, spices and yeast. There is not as much hops in the aroma as most Saisons, but there is a really nice mixture of citrus and spices.

T- The taste features a lot of citrus and spices like the aroma, with a nice touch of hops in the finish. This is a little different than most Saisons that are typically light and crisp with some spices and a hoppy finish, but this is a solid brew in its own right.

M- The mouthfeel is medium bodied, but I feel that it could benefit by a little more carbonation.

D- This is a great beer, but at 6.5% it is not as sessionable as some of the lower ABV Saisons out there.

Saison is hazy and a light gold color. Despite its haziness, there's no swimming yeast. A foamy white head rises to about two fingers. It fell to a surface level covering nearly as fast. Lacing was sticky and rather light.

The nose is kicked off with a very musky and earthy aroma. It has a slight funky aroma. It's not Brett, but something else. A generous amount of spices amp it up quite a bit. Clove and pepper are apparent, but there may be other spices I'm not picking up. A floral hop presence attributes a grassy aroma that only further its strong earthy character. A little Belgian yeast is noted on the tail, but it's not prominent. No alcohol is noted. Not a bad effort at all.

A nice grainy flavor kicks it off. It tastes a little sweet at first, but that quickly disappears. Clove and pepper spices are quite tasty and boost the overall flavor a notch. Hops are more prominent than one would expect. They're mostly floral and earthy in character, but add quite a bit to the overall flavor. I like it. Lemon and light orange citrus notes creep in toward the end. Belgian yeast is noted, but certainly isn't that strong in overall flavor. Incidentally, there's no appreciable funky flavor here. I was expecting it. Alcohol is blended very well and goes unnoticed. Overall, this has a pretty nice flavor. It's a solid effort by the Scandinavian crew. It's not quite on par with some of the best, but it's firmly in the second tier for the style.

Saison's body is light and has a decent, smooth feel. Carbonation feels a little too light and doesn't hold up its end very well. It doesn't have a substantial negative effect. Perhaps minor. Drinkability is good. It goes down way too fast and easy. The flavor is overall pretty impressive. I could handle a few of these.

Saison's a nice release from Nøgne Ø. It's probably a little better than the score here will reflect, but it's tough to stack up against some top notch releases of the style. The flavor isn't quite as refined or artful as those examples. But, it's difficult to call that a problem. The biggest problem is that its carbonation is too light. Pretty impressive outside of that. Definitely recommended.

1 pint, .9 fluid ounce slim brown bottle. The usual bold Nøgne labeling and no freshness dating.

Looks a bit dull and sickly on the pour. Cloudy pale yellow, nearly flat body, with a film of white head on top. Smells nice enough, however. Dusty lime notes with a light funky yeast and mellow grain backdrop. The aroma mostly follows through in flavor. Lemon and lime ride atop slightly earthy yeast. Builds to a hoppy bitter finish with an unfortunate metallic aftertaste. The body is thin, rather limp, and barely carbonated. An thoroughly unimpressive beer. Significantly below average for this brewery.

Poured a cloudy yellow with a thick sticky off white head.

It smelled funky like saison should, but maybe a little to funky, almost feet like.

Considering the huge nose the flavor is very mild and crisp with a bit of light fruit and a touch of lemony bitterness, very mild and not nearly as spicy as most Saisons.

The mouthfeel is spot on with a crisp and dry finish.

Drinkable, but a bit on the bland side for me.

Pours a bright yet cloudy pale orange color with an average head that dissipated into a light cap. The aroma is earthy; some pepper, light lemon and a good whiff of a banana bread. The taste is of banana bread, light citrus, and a light funk. A light hop bitterness in the end. Taste reminds me of a hefe with a little funk. Not tart like most saisons, has more of a yeast profile. Still very tasty though. The feel is moderate and has a creamy texture, finishes fairly balanced. Not a typical saison as I didn't pick up much in the way of floral notes, tartness, or the funk. However, still a very fine tasting brew.

Poured from 22 oz bomber into snifter glass.

A: Pours nice light golden color with fluffy two finger white head leaving some moderate lacing.

S: Earthy yeast and funk mixed with lemon, orange, and some spices.

T: Citrus flavors mixed with grassy undertones. Some yeast and malts while crisp and refreshing.

M: Light and dry with mild carbonation. Easy drinking brew.

O: Nice Saison. Not my absolute favorite of the group, but a solid choice none the less.
