A: Dark, red brown colour, slightly hazy. Light brown, not too dense foam. Leaves some lacing. Large bubbles.

S: Quite malty. Some soy sauce and cocoa. Dark bread. Some rye. Some hop and caramell. Rather luxurious.

T: Very sweet with roasted malts and some caramell. Nicely balanced discrete bitterness. Some coffee and cocoa. It tastes like some kind of mix between an imperial stout and an ordinary brown ale. Aftertaste is bitter and stays around for quite a long time.

M: Rather high carbonation. Viscosity is ordinary. Easy to drink.

O: Nothing extraordinary, but good anyway. Would probably fit great with meat dishes.

500ml bottle bought from The Lighthouse, Jordanstown

Poured a deep mahogany nutty brown colour. Nice creamy tan head poured very tight, thick and foamy with a whipped meringue like topping then faded fairly quickly to decent thick covering. No carbonation at all... some light lacing...

Aroma - Lots of roasted chocolate malts, tobacco smoke notes, strong peppery and grassy hops, roasted (maybe slightly charred ?) nuttiness, strong nutmeg spiciness, some anise, black coffee, woody hints, creosote traces, dark dried fruits (raisins and currents)...

Taste - Big grassy and earthy hop bitterness up front followed by lots of (charred) roasted malts, some pine notes, spicy dark fruits (raisins, dates, plums), dark chocolate, light smokiness, roasted nuttiness, light treacle sweetness...

M&D - Pretty sharp and dry... medium bodied... Pretty drinkable for 7.5%

Overall - A pretty decent brown ale although i prefer mine a little more malty than hoppy... definitely recommended though...

500 ml bottle. Served in a pint glass, the beer pours very dark brown with an inch tan head. Head retention and lacing are both good. Aroma is nice, the brew smells like nuts, toasted malt, caramel, molasses, chocolate and some dark bread. It tastes like nuts, molasses, dark bread, caramel and roasted malt, and some dark fruit and coffee. Mouthfeel/body is medium, it's smooth and creamy and has moderate carbonation. I think it's a good brew overall, I'd buy it again. $8.49 a bottle.

From BeerAdvocate magazine Issue #63 (Apr 2012):

LOOK: Nearly black, thick lacing

SMELL: Unsweetened dark chocolate, burnt bread crust, fig sugar, floral, alcohol, earthy, freshly spent coffee grounds

TASTE: Sweet, medium body, semi-crisp, figs, cocoa powder, citric pith, hop bitterness, brown malt, nectarine pits, earthy yeast, toffee, black walnuts, blueberry skin, toasted bread, porridge

A big brew for sure, balanced and does not have any intention of being a burden on the palate in any manner. Does it really need that Imperial tag? It is the world we live in right? You'll want to sip this one slow not because of the strength but the long story it wants to tell as it opens up.

A: Deep brown with a long lasting beige head.

S: Toasty, nutty, chocolately, very nice. There is a metallic element here that detracts from greatness.

T: I'm not sure I would describe this as imperial, but its a very nice brown ale with a great balance of roasted and caramel elements.

M: Creamy and satisfying but finishes quite dry.

Very nice beer.

500 ml bottle into tulip glass, no bottle dating. Pours very hazy nearly pitch black color with a nice 2 finger dense khaki head with great retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Nice soapy lacing clings on the glass. Aromas of caramel, molasses, toast, toffee, light roast, light chocolate, dark bread, floral, light dark fruits, light pine, and toasted earthiness. Very nice aromas with good balance and complexity of malty notes with slight hops; with good strength. Taste of caramel, molasses, toast, toffee, dark bread, light roast, light chocolate, floral, light pine, and toasted earthiness. Minimal bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of caramel, molasses, toast, toffee, dark bread, light roast, light chocolate, floral, and toasted earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Very nice balance and complexity of toasted malt flavors with light hops; with nice robustness and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and medium-full bodied; with a very creamy and moderately slick mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with only a slight warming noticed after the finish. Overall this is an excellent imperial brown ale. All around nice balance, complexity, and robustness of flavors; and very smooth to sip on. A very enjoyable offering.

Pours with a nice silky smooth half inch light brown head....beer itself is very dark brown...lacing is about average for this type of heavy beer...its well pronounced and clings to the sides of the glass...

Aroma is a nice malty hit of roasted barley, toffee and raisins...no noticeable aroma of any hops...seeing as this is a brown ale i suppose that is to be expected..

Taste is very well rounded, rich and smooth, roasted malts semi sweet with a nice underlying solid bitterness which follows through to a nice finish....nice!

Mouth feel is very smooth, well bodied and well carbonated with a nice champagne bubbly effervescence on the tongue with each mouthful which helps make the whole drinking experience of this beer feel very refined and satisfying....

I will definitely buy this beer again..top quality heart-warming lovely stuff!

A: half finger head with good lacing on a clear very deep amber body.

S: toffee, brown sugar, butter, dark fruit, cola, maple

T: cola, roasted malts, toffee, smoke, burnt caramel and breads malts. Bourbon in the finish.

M: fairly creamy with medium body and moderate carbonation.

Overall: very complex and dynamic. Many different flavored which mingle well and don't detract from one another
