Nøgne Ø does it again!!! The only way I can think of to describe it is scrump-diddly-umptious. Like all Nøgne Ø ales, its absolutely beautiful out of the bottle, pouring a dark mahogany with a perfect muffin top 5 cm head which lingers FOREVER until dissipating into frothy rocky dregs of head. Without a doubt top marks on appearance. As far as flavor goes - lots of malty chocolate/caramel/dark fruit/whatever you imagine (citric pith?? lol whatever floats your boat) flavors going on, as expected in an imperial brown ale. It's goddamn perfect for the winter. My only (slight) complaints are that it is just a tad bit effervescent for my taste, and just a little bit more boozy than expected. Also, taxes in Scandinavia absolutely BLOW for beer, and it shows with the $10 price tag for a pint (this is the same for all Nøgne Ø beers, but you probably already know that if you are reading this review). Totally worth it though, grab it if you see it. Overall, superb ale, som alltid kommer ifrån den kompromisslös bryggeri.

Skål!!

Poured from the 500mL bottle into a pint glass.

A: The beer is an almost completely opaque dark brown to black color, with just a bit of cola brown at the bottom of the glass coming through. Really nice looking. Head is dark tan and foamy and settles down to just a foamy residue after a minute.

S: Lots of roasted malt and burned read character. Reminds me of a bakery kiln after use - some dark chocolate, bittersweet smoky remains of malty and bready baked items that are also noticeable. A bit of molasses in there. Just heavenly aroma.

T: A bit different from the smell in that there is a lot less roasted character and almost no burned or smoky character. Very nice bread and chocolate notes in there with a luscious creamy sweetness that penetrates through everything. Light bitterness on the back end, like a nicely baked cookie - sweet enough yet the crispiness underneath lets you know it was baked somewhere.

This is an amazingly lovely brew. One of the best I've had in some time, and I love brown ales. This does the style justice and more.
