Batch # 435 Brewed on 18 June 2009 (Drank and reviewed on 24 January 2013).
Poured from a 500mL bottle into a snifter.
This beer pours a deep ruby brown color with just a wisp of bubbles on top too subtle to be called head. The aroma is overwhelming. There is an abundance of caramel and candi sugar with a hint of fruitiness reminiscent of concord grapes. The smell betrays the higher alcohol content, but is in no way offensively boozy. I would be happy to only inhale the aromas of this one. The taste is a mirror of the smell. There is caramel with hints of fruitiness. In addition there is a cocoa flavor that morphs into mocha and then a bit of coffee. The finish leaves a lingering mocha essence with a moderate booziness. There is very little carbonation with a mildly syrupy mouthfeel typical of an Barleywine.
This is my first Nogne O beer and I am very happy with it. I am going to go back to the store and buy them out of this one.

Nov. 2009: 500 ml bottle, courtesy of Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. Batch #435, ABV 10%. Deep brown colour, slightly hazy, big beige head. Pleasant aroma of brown malts, notes of rum-raisin and fortified wine, hints of spices and oak. The flavour has loads of malty sweetness and alcohol, notes of dark dried fruits and oak, hints of spices (esp. anise) and liquorice. There is a firm hoppy bitterness in the finish. Powerful beer, a bit "raw in the edges", will probably benefit from a year or two (perhaps more) in the cellar.

Copper-orange body looking almost semi-cloudy, but that was just all the carbonation bubbling up from the glass' bottom; thick, off-white head on top. Initial hit of ripe dark fruits (dates and figs) and then a heady, rich sweet malt aroma; very grainy; caramel and toffee notes. The taste reinforces most of the flavors evident in the aroma; rich and sweet; alcohol warmth is there yet well-tamed by the grains. Medium-heavy body; rich, smooth; prominent sugary feel.
Another solid, heavy yet tasty, complex and nicely balanced northern European ale. Need an example for 'liquid bread'? This would be a fine beer to sink your teeth into....

500 mL bottle, best by date of "180614" which I interpret as "June 18, 2014". But not sure when bottled.
appears a muddy brown color, opaque. a tiny bit of head fades fast. strong sweet flavors in the smell - caramel, whiskey, and raisins. similar flavors in the taste. all malt complexity, no hops detected. medium body, very little carbonation. just enough so its not flat.
overall - nice flavors, but needs a bit more body and/or carbonation. a little dissapointing for the high price.

This has a BBD of 06/18/2014, I'm not waiting...
Pours a somewhat murky chestnut with a pinky of sand colored head. Average head retention & lacing
S: Dark fruit, figs, cherries, brown bread
T: Follows the nose, woody hops, some jsmmyness up front, along with a kiss of booze & orange marmalaide. Boozey raisins & figs mix with woody & herbal hops as this warms. Finishes dry, woody & fruitty
MF: Chewy, warming, soft carbonation
Not very hop forward, a Barleywine that skews more English than American. Not bad, but hardly worth the price
Edit: I see this is already 3 years old, in which case I say it's hepld up fairly well, but probably a shadow of its young self...

500 ml bottle into snifter, bottled on 6/18/2009. Pours extremely cloudy reddish brown color with a small 1 finger fairly dense khaki head with good retention, that reduces to a thin cap that lingers. Some decent spotty lacing clings to the glass. Aromas of big raisin, prune, toffee, caramel, toast, biscuit, cocoa, earth, herbal, pine, molasses, and honey. Very nice and well balanced malty aromas with good complexity. Taste of caramel, molasses, raisin, prune, pear, apple, herbal, floral, earth, toffee, chocolate, toast, biscuit, pine, honey, and light spiciness. Minimal bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of caramel, molasses, dark fruit, apple, toast, biscuit, chocolate, honey, and herbal on the finish for a good bit. Very nice balance of flavors with good complexity, and no cloying sweetness. Light-medium carbonation and medium-full bodied; with a creamy and fairly slick mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is well hidden with only a small warming noticed well after the finish. Overall this is a very excellent barleywine. Great flavor balance and complexity; and quite smooth to sip on as well. Highly enjoyable stuff.
