Bottle.

Pours a dark amber color with a half-finger off-white head. The head recedes into a wispy layer on top leaving decent lacing.

Smells of heavy caramel malts with very light amounts of toastiness. Also present are large amounts of sugar-coated medium fruits – apricots and pears – along with lighter amounts of peppery spices.

Tastes similar to how it smells. Deep caramel malt flavors kick things off and are joined quickly by moderately sweet medium fruits. Midway through the sip the fruit flavors fade a bit and spices fill in some of the void. The fruits and spices carry through to a mildly sweet ending.

Mouthfeel is very good. It’s got a nice thickness with grainy carbonation.

Drinkability is OK. I finished my glass without any problems however I’m not sure about another.

Overall I wasn’t sure what to expect from this beer and what I got was a solid high ABV beer that wasn’t quite as sweet as I was anticipating. Worth a shot but not worth seeking out.

The sake yeast makes the beer. High alcohol is well hidden. Spicey mostly, berry fruity, smooth and big mouthfeel. Amber coloured body.Certainly an impovement on most sakes.
Bottle shared with Jack at The Ginger Man NYC.I would have this again. Unique.

Poured from a 250mL bottle into my oversized (22oz) Dogfish Head snifter.

Orange peel body with amber highlights and good clarity. A very thin collar rings the glass while a smattering of foam floats across the surface like a hurricane seen from space.

Vanilla, along with floral and honey notes suggested by the sake yeast. The alcohol is obviously present, though not quite fusel.

Incredibly sweet palate entry, with a knock-out punch of alcohol followed by an evolving flavor profile (hints of grassy hops, cherries, and Irish Whisky) and concluding with a lingering finish suggesting leather, cedar, and toasted rice.

Creamy, full-bodied, with light carbonation. Hot but not scalding.

The sweetness really holds back the drinkability for me, though the herbal/floral/woodsy finish is very unique - well crafted except for the initially cloying element. A great dessert beer...

I was not expecting a lightly colored beer when I poured this, I thought it was going to be a stout. It is very clean and clear and resembles a brandy or whisky.

Very wonderful aroma. There is an abundance of fruit, some light like fermented pears and some dark like raisins.

The flavor is enjoyable but isn't perfect. The good sides include pear, apple, and caramel. The bad side is the presence of the alcohol in the flavor, it starts out like a ninja with almost no heat, but the heat present in the after taste builds through the beer and resembles vodka during the last few sips. Fortunately it doesn't detract from the fruit character.

There is a mild tingle, and a slightly syrupy feel. I think it is good.

Pours a hazy golden color with a reddish hue. The head is small and soapy, quickly dissipated into a very light ring.

The aroma is of toffee and caramel, rum soaked berries, and candied tropical fruit. Definitely has some alcohol vapors.

The taste starts off with a big toffee, caramel, and candied fruit flavor. Borders on cloying but then there is a bittering presence that keeps the sweetness in check...somewhat. It is sort of an odd earthy/rusty/grassy bitterness but it is welcomed. Some rum and toasted bread flavors round out the profile.

The feel is full with some spritzy carbonation. Despite the initial carbonation, the feel gets a bit slick in the finish yet has some dry characteristics. The alcohol can be solvent at times and results in some belly burn.

A malt bomb for sure though it does have some interesting balance. The alcohol presence prevents this one from being enjoyable, even as a sipper. Too much rubbing alcohol or cheap vodka presence.

Brewed with No. 7 Sake yeast;

Crystal clear golden amber with an "almost" head.

Initial nose is pure saki that goes very much to lavendar, vanilla oak, sweet toast, milk toffee - very complex and layered nose with something for everyone.

Mouthfeel is rich but very alcoholic and therefore does not really feel in balance.

Flavors are all sweet front oaked whiskey with a sake "kick." Almost like a bourbon that then gets a bit like scotch. Has sweet front flavors of candi sugar, malt and vanilla that goes to a smokey, toasty coffee, carmel flavors, all of which is dominated by a whiskey/saki strong alcohol character.

Finish is a bit whiskey hot with some toasty and bitter malt and coffee.

Interesting; the saki yeast is apparent and initially appealing from a sake standpoint but character turns quicklky from saki characteristics to whiskey with some off putting tastes. All in all not really drinkable; it's "tastable" but not one I need to try again in any respect.

Appearance – Pours into a tulip with a ruddy dark amber color. About a half finger of head is achieved with a vigorous pour that dissipates almost instantaneously and leaves very little head.

Smell – Massive amounts of candied sugar, caramel malts, booze, and slight fruits.

Taste – Fruity flavors up front such as plums, apricots, and pears (I taste pear more than the others). Just intensely sweet with the candied sugars, brown sugar, and molasses. The sake yeast adds an odd component. While I will say the alcohol is somewhat well hidden, I do taste some fusel notes.

Mouthfeel – Medium bodied, a bit creamy, lower carbonation.

Overall – While I don’t really taste the alcohol, I feel it warm the throat quite a bit. This beer is just WAY too sweet (like Dark Horizon 3). I may have a couple more sips of this but there is no way I am going to finish it.

8.5 fl oz bottle poured into a tulip.

A: It pours an amber color that reveals an orange hue when held up to the light. There was a two finger white head that hung around for awhile. It left little to no lacing.

S: Malt hits first then the scent of bubble gum. It smells really sweet and there is an obvious alcohol presence. As it warms some more, tropical fruits waft from the glass with some spiciness in tow. I have never smelled a beer that even remotely resembles this.

T: Ginger, and tea leaves jump out with an intense kick from the sweet malts. There is a big alcohol blast that leaves my tongue reeling! Pineapple rears it head somewhere in there with some hints of other fruitiness from the yeast. This is a very spicy brew and I am liking it. It finishes very dry and slightly minerally.

M: The feel is a bit thin with low carbonation.

D: Glad I tried this one. Extremely unique offering from Nogne O. I have another that I will cellar for a year or two and see what happens! Cheers.

8.5 ounce bottle. Served in a Dogfish Head Signature glass, the beer pours a hazy amber/orange color with a thin off-white head that went away quickly. There's also a small amount of lacing. The brew smells like toffee, caramel, booze (brandy), pears, bready malt and candied fruit. The taste is sweet and boozy, it tastes like raisins, caramel, booze (brandy and maybe rum?), candied fruit and a bit of sweet spice. Mouthfeel/body is medium/full, it's a bit creamy and coating with low carbonation. I think it was a decent enough overall brew, but there wasn't anything that impressed me about it. It was nice to try once, but I don't think I would ever buy it again.

Bottle: Poured a light amber colour ale with a small foamy head with minimal retention and not much lacing. Aroma of varnish and loads of alcohol ester is not enjoyable at all. Taste is dominated by paint varnish notes with loads of alcohol showing. Body is kind of thin with oily texture and medium-low carbonation. Absolutely the worse thing I have tasted from this brewer; the alcohol i showing way too much and the paint varnish smell is awful. This is one hell of an expensive drain pour.

Picked up at Rick's Wine and Gourmet in Alexandria, VA.
Poured a 7oz bottle in to my Portsmouth Tulip. Only the ever so small coating of head formation, leaving a thin lace at where it began. The brew is a great looking ruby color and clear. The aroma is of a sweet malty sugary citrus. The flavor from this brew really amazed everyone at the party i opened it at. Every sip was a differet profile that came through. You had a very sweet citrus and malty caramel flavors coming threw with only the slightest of hint of the ABV shining threw. Mouthfeel was great no burn at all and not overly warming. This brew I would pick up again if the price was more suited to the size of the bottle.

250 mL bottle pours a clear-ish gold color with a small bubly white head. Not much for retention or lace.

Nose is toffee, caramel and light fruit. Nice.

Easy to drink for a 17%er. Lots of light fruit and sweet malt....runs the gamut. I like it...maybe not worth the price, but a very fun beer to have, the sake yeast was a nice touch though I probably wouldnt have been able to identify it blind.

Poured from an 8.5oz bottle into multiple glasses. Thanks to everyone for the assist!

A: Pours a pretty amber color with an extremely short-lived layer of bright white foam on top. Carbonation was pretty active.

S: Big aromas of sugar and caramel with some lighter hints of apple and pear.

T: Much like the aroma with more in the way of nuance. More pear and green apple and maybe a touch of peach. Caramel isn't as heavy handed as in the nose.

M: Despite the abv, the alcohol presence was pretty tame. Yeah it's in there, just not in the levels I expected.

O: Pretty odd when you're using a 17% ASA as a palate cleanser but we tasted this after Edition 3 and Sweet Horizon and only something this strong would be up to the task of scraping the remnants of those other two off of our tongues. This performed its' job well.

Brassy amber color with no head, no lace, no retention. No nuthin'.

Aroma is certainly different. Sweet hazelnut liquor, raisin, and a little sweaty butt which I'll attribute to the sake yeast. Taste is sweet, woody malt and paint thinner alcohol. Hot, syrupy mess.

Not as bad as sake, not as good as beer.

A-Pours clear amber with copper highlights. No head, just a thin ring of white foam.

S-Super sweet. Maybe some candi sugar in this. Smells like a less interesting take on Hair of the Dog Fred. Some nice estery fruit aromas, which I think can be attributed to the sake yeast.

T/M-This is an excessively sweet American Strong Ale, which is fine, but the booze is too much. Gets really hot mid-palate,. leading into a dry, sharp finish. An unpleasant flavor in the finish reminiscent of dirt. Not much complexity to be found here. Full bodied and sticky, with low carbonation.

O-It's okay I guess, but definitely not worth what they're charging for an 8 ounce bottle.
